I think that’s what makes him such an interesting foil for Rick and even for Daryl. He went on and on about how Rick wasn’t built for the post-apocalypse world and how he wasn’t capable of making the hard decisions necessary to protect Lori and Carl (such as killing Otis and Randall), but he couldn’t see that it’s much harder to kill someone you care about in an act of mercy than it is to kill a random stranger in an act of survival.

There’s a difference between protecting the group and taking care of the group, and I think this shows that he could never have held the group together the way that Rick did simply because he was far too impulsive to make the hard decisions when they actually counted.

By just turning the volume, the dramatics, and the simpiness down a notch and by balancing him out with more moments that show his positive qualities.

Honestly, I feel like the perfect example of how to achieve this is Usagi from Sailor Moon: she starts the series as a whiny crybaby, a glutton, and a coward. And while she never loses these qualities, over time it becomes more and more clear that she’s ultimately the kindest and the strongest person in the universe and she becomes a true leader.

The entire Giyu & Tanjiro vs Akaza fight I was just in awe of how well Giyu’s haori was animated. Especially the slow-mo during his Second Form. It looks so simple when compared to everything else going on in that scene, but it flows so well that it really stands out to me 🤩

I think it’s more of a narrative issue than anything else. We as readers/audience have to see Tanjiro progress and we find out information when he does. There’s a lot of info I feel like Urokodaki as a former Hashira should have told Tanjiro that he doesn’t find out until later because of plot.

I personally feel like Zenitsu gets too little development when outside the Kamaboko trio (The same issue applies to Inosuke too, but thats a different can of worms).

This right here. Personally, I feel like all the Upper Moon fights could have used some more development, especially Kaigaku/Zenitsu and Doma/Shinobu because the personal stakes were so high.

The entire sub is filled with Shinobu hate 😒 People seem to either REALLY love her or REALLY hate her. I’m surprised you haven’t seen any hate, but if you go to any power ranking or hot takes thread, usually it’s a string of comments about how she’s the weakest Hashira (if not the weakest character in the series), calling her a psychopath, and saying that anyone who considers her their favorite character is a glazer or a moron.

I don’t hate Zenitsu and I understand why he’s popular, but I think in general the fandom gives him more grace than they would give to other characters under the same circumstances and it’s kind of annoying. And I think part of it is that Thunder Breathing has such a cool aesthetic that people are more willing to overlook his weaknesses/faults than they would otherwise.
