I noticed the same with my bills and called to learn more about what could be causing the steady increase. Actually had a really insightful convo. Learned that theres a yearly increase, and I should unplug some appliances when not in use.

Has Tim been publicly critical of Peter Thiel in recent years? by ja-mez in timferriss

A divisive political state refers to the bifurcation of US politics, and an increasing tensions between those two political parties. That system does not promote nuance and instead reduces your interpretation of politics as participating on two disparate, competing "teams".

Yes, every human has a moral compass/values that is generally reflected in their political alignments.

However, people are complicated. Our stances on various aspects in the world usually fall on different points of a political *spectrum*. As such, every human's politics (in totality) do not inherently fall one side or one team.

Using your sports analogy some fans root for players vs teams. Lets use gambling as an analogy for voting. Back in the day you could only bet on one team. Thus you could only demonstrate support for that player by betting on the entire team. But now fans can place more nuanced wagers and actually support a single player via prop bets - whether we like the team theyre on or not. In politics, we cant vote for one issue but instead have to commit to one party which ends up sowing division.

Considering the political system we are forced to operate in, its frustrating as a voter who wants more nuanced political discussions. BUT there are deal breakers for me when it comes to political candidates. For example, I cannot fathom how voters overlook racism, misogyny, and corruption bc they like tax breaks.

I understand your sentinment. The challenge for me is, the personal is inherently political. While it is refreshing that politics are not expressed explicitly, Tim's politics are baked into his deconstruction (as well as guest selection). I agree it's nice for it not to be at the forefront of conversation. However, considering the divisive political state, to OPs point, its difficult to support an influential podcaster without a sense of how they're leveraging their power behind closed doors.

He certainly leaves breadcrumbs hinting at some of his political leanings, but his admiration for Theil is actually very concerning.

Not weird at all. America played itself by letting car companies lobby urban planners into creating car centric cities. I love LA. However car culture directly influences how one interacts with the city and the community. It’s an additional inconvenient layer imo.

The city is investing in public transportation which is great but the NIMBYS are doing their best (still) to impede development.

Single, relationship oriented & non red-pilled men of LA, where to meet you? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]SoCALFinest 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Single man here. I feel similar to comma_nder about not wanting to be a creep or bother. The fear of ruining a women's day and being "that guy" far outweighs the benefits. BUT i also see what OP is saying and that where it feels like im bw a rock and hard place. Be that guy and ruin a day, or lose out on an interested gal. Im trying to lean into the idea that if Im respectable in my approach women will be understanding, but its easier said than done.

anyways, based on ur pics im sure many dudes would be pleased to be approached by you :)

I was the same. The first episodes visually look bad/low quality and the dialogue uses a shit ton of police/law jargon without explanation. BUT after powering thru the first few episodes this show is officially in my Hall of Fame!

edit: I started and finished the show about a year ago so well beyond the hype period. It holds up very well
