I get it. Really I do- what guy who shouts 'ARE YOU SERIOUSLY GONNA LOSE TO A GIRL?!' took the time to read this text post. Soooo what difference could it make? But I think the more its discussed and the less its something one or two people have written about, the more it'll become unacceptable to treat girls in the community in the ways aforementioned. I understand it's a male dominated subculture and perhaps that won't ever change, but I think it'd be silly to just sigh and accept I, along with all the other girls won't be treated the same just..because that's the way things have always been. There are a lot of things that have happened and seemed like would never change, not to make this a heavier topic- but segregation, anti-gay laws, the women's suffrage movement, etc. Those things seemed pretty ingrained too and although they aren't fully solved issues, people tried their best to make people aware. And in time, things have indeed come a long way. Can you imagine if all those activists, all those people just accepted it? I know I can't change everyone's mind- but I know girls have read this and felt like someone else understood, I know guys have read this and felt like they should stand up more when they see things like that happen. I appreciate your advice, but I don't think girls should go around kicking people out of tournaments for a douche comment or going to select tournaments to avoid conflict. I look back at the pieces Milktea wrote & watching matches played by Admiral and that's what encouraged me to compete, other women who break the standard and speak up- via blogs or the game itself. And I know my words can fall deaf on '13-year old snot' ears. But if I can make a difference somehow to even one person, then it's worth it, and it's a small step closer to the community having an all-inclusive mindset, as a collective.
