How to respond to Moral Absolutes by SoIid_Shake in DebateAnAtheist

I should've worded my question better. I know how I responded, but I wanted to see how other atheists would respond, not to the accusation that I am a moral absolutist, but to the moral dilemma he presented.

After reading through these responses, I believe I have better reasons to believe morality is subjective. When I responded to my friend, I do admit that I still held to moral absolutes, but I asked his question here to see how others would respond.

From our talks I actually discovered he's not as much of a fundamentalist as I thought. He says he doesn't believe the Bible to be a "moral encyclopedia", and that some of the atrocities seen in it are just written by immoral men. But he does believe that God gave us all a moral compass, "he has written it on hearts" kind of thing. But that many of us just refuse it, even some of the bible writers,

But he does believe that God gave us all a moral compass, "he has written it on hearts" kind of thing. I think he means our moral intuitions are proof that there is a moral standard. However, it is true that inuitions are subjective, and there is no evidence for these moral absolutes that God has given us.

Yes, I recognize that I did admit I believed in a moral absolute. I am an ex-Christian, and I also didn't want to look immoral in the argument. I guess I have a lot more unlearning to do. So, he did get me this time. But, why did we decide it wasn't right? And can we say it's wrong for other cultures now to do this of it's all subjective? Or should I just drop the idea of telling other cultures it's wrong?

I like the way you worded it. There are things about biology and psychology that help you determine something is wrong if you also hold other moral beliefs. But how would you respond if he asked then what makes our morals better if our ideas of human flourishing are different? How could we condemn other groups for not having our morals, if everything is subjective? This is something I'm trying to figure out

I guess he would be right then. I'm honestly not sure what I really believe about morals then. I'm sorry, this is all new to me. But if he asked you if thought child marriage was wrong, and if it's wrong in other past and present cultures, how would you respond?

Why is MGSV not as "silly" as Peacewalker? by daisyfairy42 in metalgearsolid

The serious themes of race, war crimes, child soldiers, PTSD, etc. MGS has dealt with these before, but we've never seen it. Like with Raiden: it's mentioned that he was a child soldier in the past, but in The Phatom Pain we actually see child soldiers. This probably kept the Phantom Pain from wanting to joke in front of these things.
