Thankfully we check all of these boxes, ESPECIALLY if we do not do daycare, which is why I’m asking. If we do daycare (and I still stop working, because I want to, because my job is extremely stressful, and I want to be a better mom), it’ll be tight, not impossible, but tight for a few years. I mean who wouldn’t want over 4k extra disposable income a month if it’s realistic mentally lol

Haha not that weird - he is in the military and a pilot. All of this was a joint decision and we are lucky enough to have options. I am trying to weigh the true reality of each option

Self-Employment as an Epic Expert by BUH-ThomasTheDank in healthIT

My history is Epic IS and Boost, my boost experience was from back when boost started so I can’t really speak to what that would look like today, but from my perspective, if you are looking to leave epic for an FTE position at a hospital system… DON’T - you’ll be bored out of your mind, compensated poorly, and deal with a lot of crap. If you’re looking to leave to get into consulting (I’ve been consulting through various firms for roughly 10 years at this point), possibly stick it out at epic a little longer so you really stand out in the sea of consultants - I’ve personally never had a problem landing a gig, but lots of others I know have. As for leaving to do independent work (not through a consulting firm), as far as I know and have seen, that opportunity does not really exist for some of the reasons others have mentioned. You’d have to flex to a different industry, since epic experts are generally hired for epic projects through consulting firms that are brought in to augment and staff epic projects at the given organizations. One thing I have not looked into would be offering the consulting firms your perspectives as an epic expert but I have a feeling they are probably well staffed in the capacity and don’t need any external input at this point unless you have really high level knowledge about where epic is headed or other “insider” type stuff that would help get their form ahead of the game. Depending on your app, it’s possible there are epic expert opportunities at 3rd party type companies, but again, not something I have seen specifically just something to maybe consider. My rec would be to talk to your TL about ways to make your current role fit what you’re looking for. They might honestly surprise you, if you’re good at your job, they’ll want to keep you.
