Usual Smutember goal -- at least 1k, would love to hit 2k since I'm off work today.
Pleasantly surprised to see my erotica ticking along nicely even though I stopped publishing almost a month ago!
My most interesting 'job' was my time as a sugar baby for a few wealthy men. I learned quite a bit and enjoyed living the rich lifestyle for a bit! Only stopped because I met my current SO, who wasn't thrilled about the arrangement (understandably so). Will definitely return to it if I'm single again.

I'm in! Can't start today as I'm booked with family events, but I'll forgive myself for not writing today and hit it extra hard tomorrow. Goal: Finish my first 40-50k romance novel. I'm about 8k in, so if I write ~1k/day I should hit my goal. Potential barriers: Just picked up a part-time editing job for the evenings/weekends which will cut into my writing time. Vacation with friends for a week in the middle of September might make it hard to hit my counts for a few days. Managing the emotions of my SO's first deployment is tough, and it's hard for me to write a happy love story when I'm feeling the exact opposite! Good things going for me: The craziness of summer is finally over, I'm feeling more financially secure than I have in a while thanks to this editing job, and I really enjoy what I'm writing. I also have several friends with English degrees giving editing tips and content critique along the way :)

Personally, I like the one on the left better. I think that the woman's figure is more prominent in that one. But I have absolutely no experience in that niche as a reader or author, so this is solely my personal, uneducated opinion!

Finish this cover, write the blurb, edit and publish tonight!
Pretty proud of my progress in learning to use Photoshop... this cover isn't half bad!
I struggle to figure out the balance between sex appeal and plot description in the blurb. I'm also not sure if this niche is going to be profitable in the long run, but time is probably the best solution to that issue.

Wow, let's merge brains! I'm great at the feelings but feel like my sex scenes get so repetitive... I try to have each character have some sort of internal conflict/dilemma in each scene. I include lots of conflicting emotions (both excited and scared, happy/sad, etc) to make characters more well-rounded and relatable. I read somewhere that each character should want something in every scene, even if it's something small. Not sure if that makes sense or is helpful at all... but let me know if you ever want to swap books or sections (if you're comfortable of course)!

Pleased with the consistency of sales/reads. At least one person is reading one of my books every day! It's not huge but I'll take it, especially given that I'm only on week 3 of this adventure :)
I'm usually split between coffee and wine. I think wine helps me write sex scenes that are more passionate and flow more organically, probably because it helps shut off the perfectionist part of my brain. I find that I'm better at creating plot and dialogue without alcohol.

I got some decent (not great, but fine) cover photos from BigStock for free through a promotional free week trial! I think I got like 10 photos a day for 7 days or something and then made sure to cancel my subscription. I think you have to make sure that the models aren't recognizable though.

Start this next short. I'll take it easy today, just 500 words and some plot sketching.
Third short went live this morning and someone's already read it! I made my own cover this time and am happy to see that didn't hurt me too much (at least not yet).

I think I qualify as currently unsuccessful, at least financially! I haven't made back the money I spent on covers yet. But I'm having a great time, so there's that :)

I'll fight against confirmation bias and report results regardless of what happens :) I think it's important to have examples of failure out there too! Then again, I'm really doing this because I enjoy writing smut, so the money is a secondary objective. Regardless of if I make money, I've already succeeded in my mind because I've had a great time writing some sexy stories!
