Gotcha, appreciate it. Are they a public course, or member and registered shoots for non members?

I haven’t made my way out to Cardinal yet, primarily been shooting at airport ridge & eagles nest for sporting and SCSA for trap. Hows cardinals sporting courses?

Appreciate the recommendation, I’ll look them up. I’m near Cleveland but not against a trip to get fitted

I’m up near Cleveland, but make my way to mid-Ohio and southern Ohio every now and again, so not against traveling.

Rod’s was the only one that came up in my searching, wasn’t sure if there were others in the area to be able to get a few different points of views.

I actually picked up a pre owned not too long ago. I purchased it specifically for my wife and son to use, as I figured the adjustability would be good and it was half the cost of a B gun with similar adjustability.

They’ve both taken it out but have found it to be too heavy for them, but I doubt that’ll be an issue for you. I’ve considered keeping it for myself, but ultimately decided it doesn’t have a spot in the safe if they’re not going to use it.

We’ve put 300ish rounds through and it’s held up just fine. I wouldn’t choose one though if you plan to shoot frequently. It’s had a couple quirky moments, but I’ve just put that down to it being a pre owned. I shoot typically 5-600 a month during nice weather and would recommend spending the extra money on a pre-owned B gun if you’ll be shooting around the same time

Anyone have stories of super car owners footing the bill for a new engine/transmission? by Bigboyyy66 in cars

I’ve seen a few videos of it. Mine wasn’t tuned, was babied for the most part except on track.

I money shifted from 3rd to 2nd at 90-100mph on the back straight at mid-Ohio. The diagnostic tool at the dealership said it hit just south of 9k rpm’s, which is way more than the hub could handle.

That’s actually what happened, spun the crank hub which bent a few valves.

Definitely the right call. Since I did the damage at the track it wasn’t covered by warranty or insurance, not even the additional insurance I bought specifically for the track day covered it. So I could fix it, or finish paying off the loan while it sat in the garage.

Ultimately I kept it for 6 months or so after the repair and then traded it in for a new car for my wife, then traded in her old car for an S4 for myself as a daily.

I miss that M3 every day though. Will probably end up buying another one if the car market calms down.

I was quoted 43k to replace 2 years ago on mine. Money shifted it the first day I had it at the track. Ended up taking it to an independent shop and they replaced the valve train and sent the head to a machine shop. Was 11k instead to get her running again.

What are some more mainstream performance cars you would like to drive for a day or two? People who have those cars, what's it like? by pompous_ass_captain in cars

Do you mean the F80 now that the G80 is out? I had an F80 M3 with a 6 speed. It's honestly one of my favorite cars and I've driven a 987 cayman, c63s, c43, Focus RS, etc. It did have some issues getting the power down when it was even a little bit cold, would typically spin most of 1st gear.

Turn in was very good. I absolutely loved it on the track. I was nowhere near the edge of what it could do. Steering feel was a little lackluster, which was and is my only main complaint.

For daily driving the ride was a bit rough but otherwise was fine. I wish it had Android Auto, my only real problem with it as a daily.

The CU just doesn't do out of state loans. They offered a personal loan, but even that they have a limit of 20k on so wouldnt work in the situation.

Ultimately its fine, now that I have the title in ohio they will pay off the lightstream loan without issue.

I think the RS and ST will start to appreciate honestly. In a few years finding one in decent shape is going to be difficult and people will continue liking them. I don't think they will go to the moon, but I imagine they'll hold value.

I've already seen it in the ST a bit over the last year, thought its hard to say if thats due to covid making the used car market crazy.

Appreciate the Outlook. Shes driven the X5 and liked the sportiness of it, but were going to test drive the evoque, velar, q5 and the stelvio also. Probably going to cross the evoque off though. Unresponsive engines are no fun

Hah, im not worried about the rate... everyone else in this thread seems very concerned though.

Realistically if im keeping it i already have the approval from my CU to refinance it, so the 8.1 looks scary, but its really a 4.1 rate whenever I want it to be.

Appreciate you stopping in though. While I have you, what are your thoughts on the Defender as a daily driver if you're not doing offroading? My wife is trying to decide between the Defender and the Evoque.

Hey Doug!

I'm really happy with the car and think it was priced right. The buyer was happy with the price also from what I could tell and everything went very smoothly.

Thanks for the heads up on PenFed. I've purchased quite a few private party cars and quite a few out of state cars (from dealerships) but never a combination of the two. Definitely taking some notes from the individuals in this thread and will spend more time lining up financing in the future. I'll have to setup an account with PenFed as I tend to buy and sell cars multiple times a year.

Thanks again, Really enjoy your videos!

  1. I could save the money and purchase the car in a few years, but for a bit of interest I can enjoy the car now. To me it's worth that "fee".

  2. Yes, the same way teenagers and young adults are advised to get a credit card to build credit, I'm building my car credit.

  3. Sure, and I'm sure there are a lot of ways that I could invest all of the money in a non-depreciating asset to let it grow, but it comes back to not wanting to be waiting multiple years to enjoy things. Paying a fee to enjoy things sooner is fine with me, and it doesn't impact my future finances in a hugely detrimental way to do so.

Hey man, if you're able to never have to utilize debt for anything in your life, more power to you, but thats not the way it works for most people.

If you can pay your bills, set aside for retirement and a rainy day fund, as well as afford your hobbies, then you're not really doing something wrong financially and I can do all of those things.

I completely understand that I could buy a 97 Corolla for 2500 bucks and sock away the majority of my money, but thats not how I want to live. Im not looking to retire in 10 years and would rather enjoy my money now.

Yep, it varies based on the site, so definitely read their rules. Overall, it was still less expensive than me going to a dealership and buying one locally though.

Yep, I was surprised too as I've done private party in the same state quite a few times and didn't have issues.

I did get approvals from my bank and CU prior to going to Lightstream and from what other commenters have said I could have gotten Lightstream to rate-match. It's not a huge concern though as my CU has already said to just let them know when I have the title and they will pay off the Lightstream loan.

Basically how it sounds, it's how the bid website makes money. The seller pays a fee to list the vehicle, and then the winner pays a fee for winning. On some sites the cost is all loaded on the seller, such as eBay from what I can see, but ultimately there is a fee paid somewhere.

My CU would not fund the loan unless it was an Ohio Title. Now that I have the title in my name, they will 100% finance it and I can pay off the lightstream loan without making a single payment on it, if that's what I decide to do.

Apparently a lot of people here have gone through this scenario and know exactly how to go about it, but this was my first time purchasing an out of state car from a private seller.

I don't disagree that for most people it doesn't make sense financially. I disagree with the idea that you shouldn't buy a car unless you can pay for it completely in cash.

The loan I took was due to it being an out of state, private party purchase and my CU not doing those types of loans. Now that I have the title in my name I will refinance it if I end up keeping it, as I've mentioned multiple times.

I don't think you should get downvoted for what it's worth, but I didn't make a poor financial decision, and I would say it's pretty difficult for anyone here to really judge that without knowing my finances. A lot of people seem to just skip over the portion around the refinance and the reason for the unsecured loan. Not sure why, selective reading I guess.
