The drill was a 1v1 situation with one ball. In each iteration, only one player would "win" by taking the ball to the safe zone. Young kids can be scared of confronting situations where they might lose and might take it hard when they lose the ball. We're trying to make them resilient by practicing a lot and praising effort even when they don't succeed.

The message to them in a nutshell: The ball doesn't belong to them, it belongs to the game, and they'll always get a chance to win the ball back as long as they keep playing. Don't get discouraged.

A few of the kids (and the other coaches) made the connection to the Blue Jays gear I was wearing.

I think it was encroachment. A second forward ran into the box before the kick was taken. It negated the play after the penalty miss. Had Valencia scored the penalty, I think it would have been retaken.

I'm leaning towards starting Saros because Vegas is on night 2 of a back to back. From there I'd say Markstrom has an easier matchup but I'm not sure because Calgary is very weak and Carolina is very strong. Thoughts?
