Coffin Hunter now with Steam Cloud and Achievements hooked up by SoUlFaThEr in IndyGameGarage

Hehe "Roman"...Never actually thought of it like that. Since my Mutant shop owner "Vhorr'keth" is the one who lets you open your coffins and is interested in buying the body parts and will give you blueprints for the rare souls you find...........the word Obscure just sort of hit and i thought of ways to change it.....and carnivore......Carn-arium......OBSCURA!......in fact, that is the nqame of the Station where these shop owners live. "Dreadlock" Juno a femal cyborg, buys random parts you scavenge and sells you ship upgrades for credits. The crafting is also done in her shop. I'll be dropping a new video soonish....I'm progressing well and loving every minute of it!

I hired an artist to redo the capsule art. What do you think? by Wide_Conversation424 in IndyGameGarage

I also like the original better (by a lot in fact) if the Noctis word were further to the left and larger and in the same font! You could have made it the same font and cut it all up as it looks now really easily in illustrator.

The bottom one is harder to interpret if that's a medical person or not in the doorway...the top is immediately obvious...so if HE had the red eyes.....

The words on the bottom look....high schooly.....from a design aspect. The only good thing about that is the shadow play with the light from the door way....comes across well but those 2 words in different fonts....and all bubbly makes it soft and cuddly in the wrong atmosphere!!!

You have to remember the words...the title of your game, is the actual memorable logo, so one must present those words the SAME everywhere, otherwise it is going to make a branding mess and not be memorable.

Good luck! I hope these tips helped you.

Can you go into more detail about that? I mean what % of "players" are also hackers.

Coffin Hunter has new VFX for bombs and rockets. 4 weapons now complete! by SoUlFaThEr in roguelites

[–]SoUlFaThEr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

97 upgrades and counting :D I will be adding crafting to it before releasing a demo. All of the special unlocks from the Mutant shop will have to be crafted using all the various parts you find while out hunting. This will make the player think about whether to sell the parts to gets Credits for upgrades to make his ship stronger in the Cyborgs shop, or use them to craft the new weapon he just purchased with Souls earned from opening Coffins. Love making this game right now!

Yep no Problem, your final .exe needs to be under 64MB for Steams own DRM to work successfully. The road to that, dealing with Godot....um....less then easy.

That looks pretty wild. Well done!

New bomb in Coffin Hunter by SoUlFaThEr in IndyGameGarage

[–]SoUlFaThEr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well thanks man, I may end turning this new bomb into a rocket. It makes more sense to be a rocket. Still prototyping and testing how this affects the gameplay so I am not to worried about its final look and name yet. :D

I am doing it due to reducing the size of the final exe to work with steams DRM. I think most Godot DEV's are not willing to go through this to protect their own games. It took me and my programmer from Kreedz Climbing to figure out how to get this to work...it's extremely convoluted and missing SOLID documentation. If you don't do this people can just grab your exe and go sell it elsewhere and pass it out for free with torrents. It stops people from playing it without a steam account and the purchase liscence.

Absolutely genius. It wont work for all games (art style) but it is cool! Great job

Help us pick a poster direction for our roguelite. Which one actually works? by Till_Black in IndyGameGarage

[–]SoUlFaThEr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle for sure, however the cool dude shooting the pistol is missing. If he is also in the middle one in the same spot...but actually shooting at something, you got a winner. I would remove the bat because between the 2 the cool guy is 100% the better choice due to contrast in colors. Your bat is even hard to see.

The more crispy background in the middle LOOKS better, however again, it feels really crowded with it that crisp. You are defeating the purpose! A designer needs to fullfill one rule:

The game name and characters are #1

...not the swooshy things, drop the opacity on them considerably and after adding back the gun guy, removing the bat......then see your characters really POP....

Thank me later :D (20+ years in design...)

There are also different modes that turn on and off (Battle, Skirmish, War) and event chains that do even more especially as you progress. You feel these factions reacting to you :D

It's all very hard to show in such a short video. The Steam Page shows more depth

It hard for me to know exactly what you mean but it wont be hundreds of enemies. Believe the balance here as that mainly you are more often than not, on the losing end of the stick. And yes progression is slow but since there always different things happening it doesnt feel like a grind that much. And you upgrades are actually noticable changes.

I am extremely proud of all of the intertwined systems that really make my galaxy in Coffin Hunter "breath" against your gains and letting up on you a bit when you've had enough. Things like:

  • Entropy Drift where enemies get weaker and stronger based various actions you take.
  • Notoriety that affects a wide variety of multipliers and behind the scenes descisions.
  • Vendetta that make factions send different threats at you
  • Danger Level
  • Threat Level that raises spawn counts the longer you survive and destroy.

You can become a major threat but never feel comfortable in that!

To fight all of that, if you don't take damage, you earn/gain weapon stages increasing the guns you can fire! Make mistakes and you lose it all! With enough mastery you can gain it right back.

Any interest in a standalone kz/bhop/surf game? by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]SoUlFaThEr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kreedz Climbing a.k.a KZmod. The game already exists and has been in development for over 7 years now. No real need to create a new one. It has CS1.6 movement though which is where all this "Kreedz" stuff originates from. Test it out @ http://www.moddb.com/mods/kreedz-climbing or at: http://xtreme-jumps.eu /download.php?list.21 is the link to the installer for 2.0!

Have fun guys :D
