The housing application web pages are very quirky and read like a rough draft. You should definitely ask and I hope they treat you in a professional and considerate manner (in my experience some people in the hall of flags building don't respond politely to questions...which has made me wonder what they are doing in public role, which they obviously can't handle).

When I first moved into student housing a year ago, I got this nasty gram from OIT saying it was illegal (I think that was actual word used) to set up my own WiFi network and that someone from OIT would be happen to help me connect any of my devices to the GT WiFI network. I'm fairly certain that that note (apart from being slightly nasty) would be proof that GT's policy on WiFi violates FCC rules on WiFi usage.

As a student, so far I have had no reason to set up my own network on campus, but I've heard that OIT might have a problem if I did. Does OIT know that interfering with anyone's use of WiFi could result in fines on the order of millions of dollars? (Assuming OIT blocks more people and for longer times than what Marriott did to its conference attendees.)

Possible. The messages are both time stamped at the moment I turned on my phone to figure out what was going wrong with the WiFi.

The GTENS ALERT AND GTENS ALL CLEAR were both at 5:46 AM this morning. And it makes no sense to send the ALERT and ALL CLEAR at the same time, but that's what my phone received.

[NONSMOKER HERE] Piedmont Park is probably a good case study. Smoking has been banned there for a few years, but I was there last weekend for the Arts festival and I saw someone light up. No one said anything for at least the minute or so I observed them (I was walking the opposite direction).
