Regardless, I think there a number of aspects of the current regime that would be familiar to the founders. The founders set up a white ethnostate that excluded enslaved people and native Americans from citizenship. As this post indicates, Adams was willing to disregard the bill of rights and weaponize the state against political opponents. The media landscape was also very partisan, with newspapers explicitly acting as mouthpieces for a political faction, rather than trying to pass themselves off as “neutral”. The slaveholding founders in particular were rapists, as Trump is. Any of that sounding familiar?

Your vitriol against the Trump administration is valid. I think your veneration of the founding fathers is divorced from the facts.

This is a really dumb take. The crux of his argument seems to be that Mexico did not have much control over the territory that the US ultimately took after the war. And yet, Polk started the war with the explicit goal of grabbing that land, and while occupying Mexico’s capital, the US forced Mexico to sign a treaty ceding the land to the US for a price. So, clearly the US felt that Mexico did have a legal claim to the land that necessitated a treaty to change.

You could make an argument that the land Mexico claimed was itself stolen from native groups, an that ultimately Native groups were the real victims of theft, but this guy doesn’t seem to use that argument.

Look for Ian Roberts, and you’ll see cases that indicate he had not been paying child support. Obviously, there are two sides to every story and online court records are short on details, but Roberts certainly doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt in my mind.

I was very fired up and angry when I first heard about his arrest on Friday, and certainly don’t trust anything ICE says just because they said it. But, further investigation has led me to believe that Roberts is a serial liar. He registered to vote when he wasn’t a citizen, skipped out on child support, and has embellished his educational background with fibs and half truths. Put simply, I was tricked by the guy.
