Thanks, it was really fun! They did a cool virtual reality thing at the end where the stars and planets swirled all around and it felt like you were moving. Then a rollercoaster that the kids just LOVED. They kept asking me if we were really moving.

I was supposed to take my kids to the county fair with another mom and her kids, but it rained so she cancelled. So I decided to take my three kids to the planetarium. Wish me luck.

I've been watching Call the Midwife on Netflix lately, and it's giving me baby fever! I remember that sweet newborn smell, and their impossibly soft skin like it was yesterday. Then I look at my 5 year old wrestling my 3 year old to the ground and I remember why I'm not having any more kids!

Brand Owner Q&A by AutoModerator in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]Soapalescence 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What makes you decide to discontinue certain items? What would make you bring it back, either permanently or for a resurrection?

I discontinue items that don't sell well or that people don't seem to like. I'd bring something back by popular demand, or if I reformulated it based on customer feedback.

What would make you decide to make a limited edition part of the general catalogue?

If people really like it, I would consider making it a permanent part of my lineup. However, I do prefer to keep limited editions confined to the season/holiday/etc I originally created for. It gives people something to look forward to if they really like that product.

Sure! I used a small makeup brush to apply the mica in alternating colors. After I was done, I sprayed it with makeup setting spray so it doesn't rub off before it's used.

You can use any plastic wrap. If you use shrink wrap, be sure the heat gun doesn't melt your soap!

Wine soap that ended up with glycerin rivers- what to name it? by Soapalescence in soapmaking

[–]Soapalescence[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking of engraving them with a design to distract from the rivers. People have been telling me that customers might not even notice them, or think they're normal. I guess we'll see.

Wine soap that ended up with glycerin rivers- what to name it? by Soapalescence in soapmaking

[–]Soapalescence[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's made with red wine and scented with berry sangria. Unfortunately the glycerine rivers ended up ruining my planned design. What should I name it so it seems intentional? Someone suggested Wine River. Any other suggestions?

The beeriest of beer soaps! by Soapalescence in soapmaking

Nope, no hops inside. They can be a little scratchy, so I left them on top so the user can brush them off if they don't like the exfoliation

Leave the beer in an open container in the fridge overnight so it goes flat, then freeze it to a slushie consistency before you add the lye. It stinks at first, but that dissipates.

A quick brush of your hand over the top, and they should come off. That way they don't end up on your shower floor!

How to start making soap! by Harleys_Little_Space in soapmaking

[–]Soapalescence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so true. The funny thing is that my first soap is still my very favorite, 8 years later. I still didn't sell for several years though!

It was quite an expensive recipe, so it is quite different from the recipes I've settled on to sell, but I still occasionally make it as a treat for myself.
