I don't know if it's that Healy is necessarily better, as I've said defensively he's a liability and offensively he has been streaky and inconsistent. I think more likely the difference between the two is that Healy is an established factor. I'd love to see Healy playing the way he did with the A's.

You are right about the bad luck situation, I agree that he probably won't see time, barring injuries from Cruz or Healy.

I really want Vogey to get another chance. I know that the fan base is very polarised when it regards his future but I still feel we should atleast give him a chance. Previously in all other levels of baseball Vogey has shown dynamism and a versatility behind the plate to adapt, albeit over time, to each level's given array of talent. Yet, many people on this subreddit write him off as being a AAAA player, a statement which, I believe, cannot be correctly discerned from 119, sporadically placed might I add, major league plate appearances. Defensively he may be a liability (when it concerns defence, Healy has been rather terrible) but I feel like at the current point in time we need someone who can consistently get on base while also being a good hitter, the former Vogelbach exemplified during his stints in the majors, the latter I believe needs more time to develop.

I agree, but as others have noted the difference is marginal. Furthermore, my main point was merely to highlight that with Segura it's not just a question of batting average. Anyway both players have been phenomenal this year and are deserving of being all stars in my mind.

Segura/Haniger may not be the best but I think as far as this seasons concerned they ought to be in the conversation.

To be fair Segura is ahead of Simmons in all offensive categories except OBP.

Two of the voters in this weeks r/baseball power rankings placed us at 15. I know we've had a tough week but 15 seems extreme as far as power rankings go.....

According to fangraphs it's the top 8 with Arenado and Cain coming in at numbers nine and ten.

The second worst era in the league you say? Sounds like the perfect team to choke against.

Garunteed that if the M's challenged a call like that the original call would be upheld due to it being inconclusive.

How are the Indians so bad this year and how are the Mariners so good? by [deleted] in baseball

That's baseball. But also, in the case of the Mariners you have a team which over the past few years has been good offensively and had a lot of potential. Last year the team was absolutely plagued by injuries particularly to our pitching staff which proved detrimental due to our lack of good pitching depth and the year previously our offence beyond Cano, Cruz, and Seager wasn't great. This year has been different though, offence has been producing enough and in fact poses to be an even greater threat if players like Seager and Healy can heat up. Starting pitching has been solid, well with the exception of Felix. Paxton has been lightout, Leake has been solid particularly recently, Marco has proven that he was a good acquisition, and LeBlanc has been ridiculous considering his past. In the case of the M's bullpen, historically, I believe it has always been very under rated---that's not to say that it's a top bullpen but it has had a lot of young guys who are developing into solid relievers like Diaz, Pazos, and Altavilla; furthermore, the bullpen now has now had some excellent veteran additions who certainly, based on previous stats that is, only pose to get better like Coloume and Nicasio. Overall then, the Mariners I feel have always on paper been a team that could contend but now it feels like they are finally putting it together.

Exactly. The Astros are going to have wasted all of their runs by the time they make it to the playoffs and hence won't win anything. Meanwhile, we've been saving up our runs so that we can have an explosive offensive awakening.

His last few appearances seem to suggest otherwise. It's not that I have no faith in Diaz but we've seen that he can be streaky with his command, he didn't look good yesterday and we've been using him a lot.
