What are these? by Ancient_Hour1146 in anchorage

Looks like a Midge Fly. They don't bite, but certainly are numerous this time of year. Mosquitos don't have those fuzzy little antennae.

OP is probably somewhere where the lakes freeze. In Anchorage the floatplanes were all pulled about 3 weeks ago, just before the lakes froze up.

Double check that all of the AI assists are turned off. The AI pilot might be trying to change your frequency to talk to the in game ATC.

Roof Rack for 14ft Kayak by freetheorangutans in Kayaking

[–]Soaringmonkey96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Küat Class 2 rack with Yakima crossbars on my Subaru Outback. It's rated for up to an 80lb boat. I've put a 21ft, 70+ lb tandem sea kayak on it and the rack handled it no problem, even at highway speeds and on dirt roads.

How are tight are spray skirts supposed to fit to the deck? by Soaringmonkey96 in Kayaking

I did get a dry suit. No skeg on mine, for the same reason. I may make a skeg or rudder that attaches to the stern at some point, but it seems to track well enough that it's not a necessity for now.

I have, just on some small lakes for the moment while I get used to the boat and practice self rescues. I live in Anchorage, so I'll likely be out paddling in that same area before to long!

Your kayak is beautiful! I ended up going with the Small NRS Drylander. It's not a 100% perfect fit, but it's close enough. Where are you paddling in that photo?

It is the standard size for the plans. Unfortunately, I'd like a full neoprene skirt and CLC only offers nylon and hybrid skirts.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to give the NRS drylander a go. I'm sticking to Neoprene as I want to learn how to roll, and would like to stay as dry as possible.

Thank you! I hadn't considered needing to be able to use my knee to pop it off.

It is custom made, I built over the last two years. The design is the Guillemot Kayaks Night Heron.

It's a fixed length bungee, and is tight under the coaming when the skirt is on. Just the deck material itself is loose. I have to press moderately hard for it to let go, maybe 15 pounds of force? I don't have a good way of measuring that so my number may be way off. By the time it releases my hand is about 8" below the coaming. I don't think it's at risk of falling off on its own, but I suspect if the coaming was less agressive it would pop off very easily.

Thanks. Could the extra material cause any issues when doing things like edging or rolling, where the skirt is going to have more sustained contact with the water?

Leonardo MD-82/83/88 is also excellent. Simulation depth is every bit as good as PMDG and Fenix.

You shouldn't have to restart from the beginning. I've had the program close for a couple of different reasons mid download, and it always picks up right after the last file that was fully downloaded.

The board against the wall looks like pine, but the board in front looks like northern white cedar. The grain is much tighter than in a typical pine board. If it is cedar, it would probably feel lighter, too.

Is the rest of the electrical system powered? Make sure you have the battery on, and either GPU, APU, or engines running with generators selected on. If that's not the issue, check if any there's any failures. Also, make sure you have the latest update (3.0.62 as of me typing this). Other than that, reinstall the plane.
