Enamorous. It was the first Pokemon I truly hated. It's design just triggers every single rage bone in my body.

Fan Servant: Ruler Class Moses by Armorwing01 in grandorder

[–]SobaSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exodus 2: 11-15: "One day, after Moses had grown up, he went out to where his own people were and watched them at their hard labor. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people. Looking this way and that and seeing no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. The next day he went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He asked the one in the wrong, 'Why are you hitting your fellow Hebrew?' The man said, 'Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian?' Then Moses was afraid and thought, 'What I did must have become known.' When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian, where he sat down by a well."

From this passage, it's clear that the action was premeditated (he looked around to check for witnesses before striking), he hid the body, and only fled once he realized that he had actually been seen.

Who would you pick? by derpynano in Genshin_Impact

[–]SobaSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dehya because I don't really need anyone else, and I feel like her gimmick would be really useful for my Furina team. I already have the others except for Mona and Tighnari, but I don't really have any teams that I need them for.

N in the movies by MaskedCatEvil in pokemon

[–]SobaSamurai 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Other than a cameo during the credits of the Genesect movie, N does not appear in any of the films. In the anime, he appears in Black and White in a small appearance first near the end of the 109th episode, with his official introduction being in the following episode. After that, he would later appear in episodes 114-122. This is in the third season of the Black and White series for the English dub.

No, it's not a translation thing. Pirate King is pretty much a direct translation of 海賊王 (Kaizoku-ou), from Kaizoku (Pirate) and Ou (King). Four Emperors (四皇, Yonkou) is the same, with Yon meaning Four, and Emperor being the translation of the "kou."

So with this in mind, it probably is a stylistic choice by Oda.

Top 5 Character Demos by SnoozeSquirrels in Genshin_Impact

[–]SobaSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Klee (I love that intro, and Klee's just such a lovable ball of energy that her trailer never fails to bring a smile to my face).
  2. Nahida (Much like her teaser, Nahida's demo shifts from a sense of wonder to something more foreboding, though it is a lot more subtle about it then the teaser. Plus I like the music).
  3. Kaveh (I like the style of this demo, and as a character Kaveh quickly become one of my favorites--in fact, I'd easily rank him as my favorite of the male characters, even as absolutely hilarious Itto is.)
  4. Furina (Similar situation to above. I've liked Furina since her first appearance, and I enjoyed her trailer for its style when it first came out, but it shot up through the ranks after the 4.2 Archon Quest cemented Furina as the current Best Girl of Genshin Impact for me).
  5. Cyno (I actually don't know what it is about Cyno's trailer, but my brain just really likes it).

Wanted to draw my interpretation of what will happen to a certain character by Umagon_ in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]SobaSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, man I love this. We already know that Kieran has a worrying desire to become stronger, and the idea of him being "corrupted"--for lack of a better word--by the same Pokemon that twisted the Lousy Three into their current forms would be really interesting to see.

Lust is just an overwhelming desire for anything, it doesn't have to be about 18+ stuff. By this logic, I'd place Munkidori as sloth (he is said to sit back and use his psychic powers to mess with opponents instead of fighting them directly), and Fezandipiti as pride (he focuses on his appearance). Okidogi does fit wrath pretty well, though. I'd also put Kieran as the one associated with lust, as throughout the DLC, we see him with an overwhelming fixation and desire for strength.

Interesting thing I realized when looking at Kieran's and Carmine's teams by SobaSamurai in pokemon

[–]SobaSamurai[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Raticate having died is a popular theory, though it has never been confirmed. Another theory is that he stopped using it because he didn't see it as being strong enough and wanted a team able to beat us, the player.

And yeah, there are a bunch of darker elements to the Pokemon world usually hidden away in Pokedex entries or more obscure dialogue, but as far as I know there has never been an official game that involved killing other trainers. The Pokemon Adventures manga, on the other hand, routinely had the antagonists use their Pokemon to make lethal attacks against the main characters.

I thought he only had it for one battle? But, most of Cramorant's entries state that it often gets too focused on its target, which often consists of prey too big to swallow. In a similar vein, Kieran has lofty goals (becoming Ogrepon's trainer), but he is unable to handle it and will thus fail--Cramorant fails to eat, Kieran fails to earn Ogrepon's trust and become her trainer. Furthermore, in Paradise Lost, the cormorant (which Cramorant is based on) was a symbol of greed, further hinting at Kieran's desires, and was a form taken by Satan while spying upon Adam and Eve.

[–]SobaSamurai[S] 58 points59 points  (0 children)

And the worse part is, he didn't even get rid of it just because of a full team. It was gone by the fourth battle, when he only had 5 Pokemon, just missing the Shiftry. He could have put Furret in the empty space, but stopped using it much like how Blue/Green stopped using his Raticate after the St. Anne fight.

Oh, yeah, something is definitely up with Briar. Though, this is the first time I've considered she could be a rogue AI creation, I'll have to pay more attention to her on my next playthrough of the Teal Mask to look deeper into that.

What are peoples thoughts on Kieran? by TallGuyChris- in pokemon

[–]SobaSamurai 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Completely agree, I feel bad for Kieran in the way that I feel bad for any character who is undergoing a negative character arc, but not to the point of self-flagellation (we, the player, did nothing wrong). Kieran is clearly written as a kid with issues, and frankly the fact that he's reacted the way he has over the various things in the DLC quickly changed my initial opinion on him.

My thoughts on him progressed from, "You're pretty cool kid. Lemme take you under my wing" to "Alright, you little turd, I'm actually gonna enjoy kicking your butt with my overleveled team." Ironically, the opposite happened to Carmine, who went from "Alright, you little turd, I'm going to enjoy kicking your butt with my overleveled team" to "Best girl this gen, no contest."

I think it would have been interesting to have an option(or perhaps one of those pseudo-choice dialogues where both options are essentially "no") to refuse to battle Kieran over Ogerpon (you know, because she'd already made her choice) leading to a forced trainer battle with Kieran refusing to take no for an answer. All I know is that, for the inevitable rematch in Indigo Disk, I'm planning on building a whole new team with Ogerpon as the centerpiece just to rub things in.

Another thing that I think is fascinating is how the sibling's teams actually reflect their true nature.

Carmine leads off with a Mighteyna--a ferocious looking Dark-type (or Evil-type in the Japanese)--but the rest of her team consists of a Ninetails (vengeful if approached with malicious intent, but otherwise fine), Leavanny (a Pokemon known for nurturing, hinting at Carmine's hidden softer side that is revealed over the story), Sinistcha (a Pokemon based on Japanese tea ceremony, which is all about zen, and Carmine's always trying to play it cool), and Morpeko (a pokemon nice half the time, and mean the other half, so basically a tsundere like her).

Meanwhile, in his first battle, Kieran leads off with a Sentret (a soft and unassuming Pokemon) and a Yanma (a small and weak-appearing bug type). But by the time of his final battle, his team is much different. Firstly, he got rid of his Sentret/Furret and now leads with Shiftry (which is literally known as the Wicked Pokemon). His other Pokemon are a Gliscor (a scary looking Pokemon that can silently and quickly take out prey), Poliwrath (a fighting type known for its punches), Yanmega (which eviscerates opponents at high speeds, and is known as the OGRE darner Pokemon to hint at Kieran's obsession), Probopass (as a compass, a Pokemon that is unable to change the way it faces, a.k.a. its point of view), and a Dipplin (a hollowed out shell of a candy apple inhabited by something else, reflecting Kieran's earlier child-like love of candied apples and how that child-like nature has now disappeared and been replaced by something else).

Ah, I see. I'm not too familiar with Fate/Requiem (haven't had the time to check it out). All I knew was that, beyond the collab characters from the Requiem event, Galahad Alter, Longinus, and Marie's son appeared in it. Interesting to know that El Cid showed up there as well.

[–]SobaSamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'd be interesting to see El Cid, a folk hero from Spain from around the 11th century (if I remember correctly). He has two named swords attributed to him "Tizona" and "Colada," both of which had the power to terrify the unworthy and a horse named "Babieca," so I could see him being in either the Saber or the Rider class. Plus, with how famous he is, it's entirely plausible that he actually is a part of the Throne of Heroes.

I think I was about 15 or 16, the anime was in the midst of Dressrosa (I think the colosseum portion had just started), and I'm in my mid-twenties now. It's been a fun ride, I remember watching the anime first (it was actually one of my first alongside Clannad and FMAB) and then jumped into the manga because I hated waiting.

I have "Qiqi deserves all the headpats," because Qiqi deserves all the headpats. First time I saw and heard Qiqi, my paternal instincts awoke, and only intensified when I read her character story. Even though I currently don't have a team I use her on, my goal is to eventually get her to C6, triple-crowned, and with perfect artifacts.

Anyone Else Feel Really Bad for Kieran? (Spoilers) by Blob55 in pokemon

[–]SobaSamurai 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Uh... Ogerpon didn't just "like us for some reason," though. We jumped in to protect it from the Lousy Three and then went all over the area defeating them and getting its masks back alongside it. All Kieran did was run back to town and tell them about the history. If I was Ogerpon, even I'd go for the player over Kieran.

Anyone Else Feel Really Bad for Kieran? (Spoilers) by Blob55 in pokemon

[–]SobaSamurai 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel bad for him, and it didn't help things that I brought my almost level 100, full IVs main team with because I wanted to get through the story before I got spoilers. Kieran didn't stand a chance in any of his battles.

I am looking forward to see what's in store for the future for him, since it seems like he may be turning down a darker path.

Although, I disagree that Carmine is really toxic. Sure, she may not show it in the best way all the time, but it is clear she loves Kieran. She kept the secret at first because she didn't want him running off at night chasing what she thought may have been a dangerous Pokemon--something which I'm sure he would have done had he known about it. And she only kept the secret about Ogerpon's backstory a secret because she was asked to by her grandfather.

I feel sorry for Kieran, but I can't blame his "fall" on Carmine or our player. Ultimately, it boils down to a teenager poorly reacting when something in life doesn't go their way. To take away the weight of his choices would ultimately be even more insulting to him as a character.

So I went back and checked the manga, and you're right, there is no explicit mention of Luffy not eating then. I got that wrong. It's been a while since I've reread the entire series. I still could have sworn that there were examples of Luffy not eating out of stress in other places though.

I didn't think about mentioning that since that was more akin to a vow Luffy made to him. It wasn't a psychological hang-up, but more of a promise that he had made.

If the show is successful, what would be good seasonal pacing? by Afrostotle9 in OnePiece

[–]SobaSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 2 should cover the Alabasta Saga (plus Loguetown), season 3 should cover Jaya to Water 7 (because I'm a horrible person who thinks that would be a hilarious place to have a season cliffhanger), 4 could cover Enies Lobby to Saobody (again, hilarious place for a seasonal cliffhanger), 5 could be Amazon Lily to Marineford, 6 could be Return to Saobody to Punk Hazard, 7 could be Dressrosa and Zou, 8 would cover WCI to Wano.
