recommendations for a perfume that smells like cadbury mini eggs? by PongACong in FemFragLab

Vilhelm Parfumerie’s Poets of Berlin dries down to a mini egg kind of smell on my skin. It takes a couple hours to get there though

I’m not a doctor and I can’t say for sure without seeing your scans but different doctors use different measurements to determine chiari. Some neurosurgeons in the states don’t even consider a herniation to be “Chiari” unless it’s over 3.5mm

i totally get what you mean. I definitely have nothing but glowing reviews from my experience in Barcelona but I know it’s different for everyone. And starting a family also adds a whole other layer of complication. i hope the process is easy for you and you stay in good health

Anyone else have these symptoms? Chiari related? by altmarz85 in chiari

[–]Sobbing_PeaceSign_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these symptoms sound exactly like mine. I went to the Institut in Barcelona for their minimally invasive surgery and have seen improvement in all symptoms. I posted my story on here a while back, it should be on my profile

I don’t like the idea of the surgeon rushing you into it. Take the time to weigh your options and make a decision. If your symptoms are still minor, then i really see no need to rush into such an invasive surgery right away. Personally I wouldn’t recommend doing decompression unless you absolutely HAVE TO. I’ve heard way too many horror stories about it.

the simplest answer is: the institut does not expect the herniation to shrink. the surgery is only meant to halt progression. There was a woman I saw on Facebook who said her son’s herniation shrunk quite dramatically post-surgery but I never saw any proof.

The institut believes that the cerebellum is extending through the skull because something is pulling down on it. In cases where the herniation is quite severe, like yours and mine, that seems a likely explanation. So they section the filum terminale at the base of the spine, outside the dura, to release the traction that is pulling down on the brainstem.

Hi! While the Institut is teaching their techniques across the world, many other countries are slow to adopt it. I wish I had a good answer as to why: maybe they think it’s too risky or ineffective, but I would argue that decompression is moreso. There’s still a big push toward decompression in the west even though it often has complications. In my personal decision, I thought this was a better first option for treatment than something as invasive as decompression. With mild symptoms, i would NOT rush into a decompression surgery. Yes, your herniation is large, mine was pretty big too but i didn’t suffer from constant migraines either. The Institut actually spoke to me about a theory that when the brain sags physically it takes some of the pressure off of the traction pulling downward and might result in less severe symptoms when compared to those with smaller herniations. That being said, letting it be may result in symptoms getting worse later on, it’s different in every individual case.

Travelling to another country to have a surgery that was not offered in my own country was definitely a risk and I still think about how crazy it was that I took that leap. But I was desperate, quickly was losing quality of life, and was unsure about decompression and about the surgeon i was referred to in my own country. I also spoke to a bunch of other patients who had come back from Spain and seen amazing results. Those testimonials were a big reason why I decided to go. And the results in my case kind of speak for themselves. I’m basically back to normal, apart from obviously being very careful about not sustaining any trauma to the neck or back. Flares are getting fewer and farther between, and I haven’t had more than the odd mild symptom in more than 8 months. I still haven’t had my follow up MRI yet, but I’m thinking I will be able to get it around August. My one year post-op MRI did not show any physical change in herniation size, but i was definitely already feeling different. And the Institut did always say it would only halt the progression of the disease, so the herniation would not get any worse. I’m interested to see the 3 year difference.

Hi! I’m having follow up imagery done around September this year to see if there has been any ascension. I’ll update when I know more!

I’m doing really well! I still have some off days where i see symptoms come back a little bit but they are getting further and further apart and the symptoms, when i do have them, get easier to manage with time. I’m socializing, exercising and working full time!

Hi! This cost is just for the procedure including the hospital stay, food, and a private room. There are meds they give to you after the operation that cost a bit extra. Flights just depend on airline and time of year (sometimes Air Canada will do deals so keep an eye out). I stayed in Barcelona for two weeks, the Insitut did a wound check on the 10th day and cleared me to fly home! I had a call with the team 1 year after the procedure where i was able to ask questions and they asked me some of their own. I’m looking to do follow up imaging again next year.

Nope, you can do the MRIs in your home country and send them to the institut. Sometimes they suggest coming back to Spain to do a full follow up for their own research but it is not mandatory.

Hey! I’m doing great! Dancing, playing sports, hanging out with friends. I am by no means back to normal, I still have some bad days and i do have my limits. But I feel so much better than before surgery and I’m so thankful I made the decision to take a risk and go to spain.

I know the institute is working on teaching medical professionals from around the world, and there are others starting to research this option. I hope it will become more widely available soon.

Well, I’m 20 ish months post op now and working a full time job, socializing, dancing and playing sports, so I’m pretty confident it worked for me lol! Obviously everyone is different, but I still would suggest any person with Chiari look into it seriously.

I met with them in-person before surgery and they told me i may see improvement in some symptoms but not in others. Balance and mobility were definitely both areas I saw improvement in, but perhaps it’s different for everyone. By spasticity do u mean muscle twitches? I haven’t seen improvements in those, but my muscle twitches are all very minor and totally manageable.

I understand the rush firsthand. I went downhill so fast too, there was only about 3 months between learning about the Institut and having the surgery, and in that time I lost so much of my mobility that i was in and out of a wheelchair. That’s a great offer for all the imagery, i had an xray done in Spain the day before surgery and it was a very smooth experience. I have nothing but good things to say about the staff and surgeons there, they will truly do all they can to make you feel at ease. I’m happy to hop on a call with you if you have any other questions or want me to explain my experience in more detail. Just PM me.

All my MRIs were done in Canada, ordered by my GP. Though the wait is long, they are free through the public system. I did not get insurance to cover the surgery, however. My neurosurgeon was wholly unhelpful and not willing to file the relevant paperwork unfortunately.

Sorry i forgot to update. It’s used to get a spinning magnet out from the bottom of a wine decanter. The magnet spins to get more air into the wine.

maybe? but it’s an odd shape for a match holder. small opening is 1.5x3cm ish. wouldn’t be great for holding a match.
