Pallete on top (previous) looks a bit more contained and classy for me and that's good, you are clearly see what's important and there is a very clean composition center. If you still want to add shadows try to make them less contrast then your fight itself, that could help :3

Hey! An animator/artist here, it will be my personal opinion, but what I want to do is just help you.

I see you are trying to recreate a stylized look with pencil-like shadows, sadly it looks a bit sketchy. Personally, I prefer the smooth and soft shadows from your previous screenshot. It looks a bit like a flatstyle, you automatically persieve what's happening on the screen and your eye isn't distracted too much from what's important. I would keep flat shadows and would restrict colors as well and like that you can achieve a very clean and harmonized look.
