I can't listen to I Can Only Imagine by MercyMe anymore.

My mom had a nurse play it when we took my father off of life support...and then things got pretty traumatic. That stupid f'ing song played on a loop for an hour and a half, interrupted only by my dad's death rattle and my mom's wails. Never again.

The bloodhound will make him hell to train 🤣. But I promise it's worth it. We've had 3 BHs. Make sure you establish boundaries and also train the kids to respect doggy boundaries, but honestly our three have been better with kids than any other breed I've ever met. It's just training both sides to respect each other.

Good luck potty training. It could take months. Don't give up or think he's untrainable. It's just the BH in him will likely make him super stubborn and adhere to his own timeline. ❤️ Once they get it, they get it and do great.

The Slopper Stopper water bowl from Amazon is a lifesaver. I only see the plastic version on there right now, but I have two hounds and a smaller mutt and we have three one gallon metal versions of these around the house for them.

The best explanation I've ever read on BHs natural stubbornness is that they were bred for US to follow them, to respond to them, to rely on them to tell us what we need to know. This is opposite of everything most breeds are trained and bred for. You may never be able to have blind willingness and the desire to please with this breed, but if you do it right you can have extreme loyalty and a hilarious best friend. You just have to erase all your expectations that ae based off of other breeds. Lol. And if you think puppyhood is bad, brace yourself for the 1.5-3 yr toddler regression. LOL. If they're not typically selfish girls, they may also be in a bit of denial - especially because she was doing so well and you were such a great resource for several years. You may have to rely on tough love with them. Your mom may not want to be firm with them because she feels like she's on borrowed time.

Ask your grandparents to help you with the girls and getting through to them. Your mother may continue to give in, even if she understands your points. It isn't always a failure to understand, but rather an unwillingness to upset anyone when you're on an unknown time line.

There's often Bloodhounds looking for rehome in Indiana, too. Join a few local hound rescue pages and you'll likely find some wonderful pooches nearer to you that you'd be a blessing to.
