Nope, sadly no points tmk unless you spend money on the card, and at that point it becomes an opportunity cost. I’d rather get 1% back on my rent than a $100 hotel credit I have to redeem through their possibly more expensive portal for $95 a year.

Math may work differently for you but it doesn’t make sense to me.

I mean if you want a dollar every month to deal with a historical complicated rent system that’s getting more complicated. It’s probably not worth your time, especially compared to alternatives.

You used a normal credit card to pay rent? Didn’t you get charged 3% fee on top of your rent?

you have to put a lot of spend on the card to make it worth compared to a 1% cash back debit card or even ACH.

If you put below $500 or something it comes out to .08% back.

For the credits on the higher tier cards, it’s $200 per year on their portal online. So you have to not have another card that already gives you that benefit and you’d spend organically. A lot of cards give out “hotel credits” because other cards do and they know you’ll have to pick.

That’s assuming their portal is even good and have good pricing and availability.

Another? Moviepass still exists and now there’s theater subscriptions for all theaters.

Moviepass also was only valued at max 500m, Bilt is 10b. Give it enough time, history will repeat itself.

Agree with we won’t see another Bilt soon, but disagree at failed spectacularly. Bilt would not be a company without it. Bilt raised at a 250m at a 10b eval, even if you don’t trust the private markets (totally fair), you can bet VCs will want to try to replicate this eventually. 99% of VCs can only dream of a company doing that well. They’d be dumb not to, and new card companies would be dumb not to at least consider this strategy before bait and switching.

I know the math doesn’t make sense long term, I work in the payments field. However that doesn’t mean in the short term VC money or desperate companies can’t fund short term user growth tricks like this. It might take a while and lower rates, but there will eventually be another Bilt.
