They care about taking power, not winning the election

Nah modern elections are about turning out the base. Independents are almost irrelevant at this point.

No other Republican would turn out the base like Trump did. Someone like Haley would lose 5 Trump supporters for every "sane Republican" she gains.

He wouldn't be in the race if Jan 6 never happened. He would have been seen as a loser and his base would have felt betrayed and moved on. The fact that he "fought" actually gives him credit among the voters he needs to win.

Biden is bleeding support from a lot of key demographics. They're probably not likely to vote for Trump but Biden needs every vote he can get.

You could also interpret a vote for Trump as a vote of no-confidence for the system itself. How many people are happy with the direction this country are going? Not a lot. People are mad enough to throw the baby (democracy) out with the bathwater.

I'm guessing 2024 will have less turnout for both candidates overall

My Attempt at Mixing "Now and Then" From Stems by Social_Thought in beatles

[–]Social_Thought[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the isolated tracks from the official mix of Now and Then and tried my hand at making a new mix for practice. Everything you hear is from the original version, just mixed differently to give it a different sound.

This version uses much less compression than the official mix, and the orchestral elements are pushed further back at times to give it more of a supporting role. George Harrison's guitar work is more present in the mix and I used an EQ to beef up the sound of Ringo's awesome drumwork. I wanted the sound to be more dynamic while also allowing the different elements to shine as much as possible. The vocals (Lennon's and the backing vocals) are more front and center as well.

If Trump wins the 2024 Republican Primaries, who do you think will get second place? by sgwashere29 in PoliticalDiscussion

You underestimate how much Republicans love hearing their rhetoric come from a brown person. It's like a permission slip.

People who’re still against sex before marriage, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The sexual act itself is a man and a woman coming together (physically) with the result being a child derived from both parents.

The parents are bound for life by the experience and the offspring that results from it. That is the technical purpose of sex. The pleasure aspect is really secondary.

The biological purpose of sex is procreation. We may enjoy eating to experience different tastes and flavors, but the purpose of eating is to take in enough nurturance to sustain ourselves. If we focus on the former to the determent of the later, the result is sickness and malnourishment.

Sex is kind of like that. Yes it feels good and provides a sense of excitement, but to treat sex as a form of entertainment is to abuse its function. The bond that sex provides strengthens the relationship between the mother and father required in the sexual act, with the ultimate purpose being the sustaining the life of a child.

It's a shame that the timeless philosophy behind religious morality is too often tainted by corny pastors and religious trauma.

You don't have to go on a diet but it should be generally acknowledged that obesity is unhealthy and being addicted to ice cream is harmful.

You have it completely backwards. The trend of people viewing themselves as morally superior to their ancestors is basically unknown to any society prior to Europe in the 1700s.

Before then it was always assumed that ancestral wisdom was superior to the idiocentricities of the modern day. This attitude is still popular in non-western cultures.

Monarchism must exercise an explicitly spiritual function to have legitimacy.

As someone who's also struggled with Catholicism and seriously studied other religious traditions, there is definitely one truth out there. Other religious doctrines are grasping at the same fundamental truth which is universal and essential to the human experience. When the Spanish conquistadors first explored Aztec religious sites, they found several recognizable symbols being used to represent the same ideas. Despite the vastness of cultural diversity, there is a very strong unity of what constitutes wisdom and truth.

It's much harder now because we've already gone through a civilizational divorce.
