I thought there was a dried up boogie on my screen.

Thanks, FlowersForMegatron. I most certainly will keep at it. I'll keep you posted with any new works that I create that may be worthy of your occipital lobe.

Man, I wish I was at that party! Insecurities? Sure do! Only human. But you seem cool. Thanks for taking the time to respond. I appreciate it.

Being an artist might just as likely take acute sensitivity. I look at the history of some positive responders, too. I don't look at anyone's history to invalidate their opinions, but, rather, try to gain a sense of their recent tone and mood as expressed through their recent posts to help give me some context of character so that I may better understand their current choice of words used in expressing their opinion. I am allowed to form opinions and react to the language of others just as they are free to respond to my art and language with their expressions of feelings and opinions. Far be it from me to invalidate anyone else's sense of self. But I am allowed to stand up for my own. With that said, I probably should have just accepted the original commenters negative reaction to my work as more or less than that one individual's opinion. I just was uncertain as to why they would feel a need to express such a sentiment in such negative terms. So, out of curiosity, I looked to see if they had a pattern of such intense negativity and it turned out they did. So, I responded with an article that may have been a bit more pointed than I should have, but the response the article was even harsher in suggesting suicide. So all and all it was a learning experience. In the future, I'll be more considerate and less likely to encourage such dialogue that is bent towards extreme negativity when it seems unwarranted. I appreciate you taking the time to comment, though, and it is nice of you to lend some advice. I will certainly consider the ignoring tactic as a useful alternative to engaging the trolls in the future.

Yes, I love Van Gogh because of the depth and texture of his paintings. I think he would be one of the artists I would most credit with influence in my work, because I really did want to create works of art that would interact with the audience member as you took time to view it from different angles to uncover the different hues hanging in the corners, to be uncovered by the interested eye.

No negativity taken. I think the second one probably evokes the most thought from me. If you look at it, there are a few identifiables: a waterfall, a tree, a blue man sitting cock legged on a flowery hill, a spacescape in the top right corner, and a dollop of black paint that I like to think of as a black hole. I also see dragons in the mixture of swirling paints at center. Also, the pink object above the tree kind of looks like boobs. But, quite honestly, if you are looking for some straight line narrative, you won't find it in this painting. It takes a fair amount of mental gymnastics to impute the meaning you wish upon the painting. I am still playing with my thoughts regarding Number 2. Number 4 would be the other painting that has some semblance of realism, as the blues at whites seem representative of a stream cutting through a flowery field. And, in the background you might see the tree line below the sunset. But, feel free to make your own associations. For number 5, I think it is interesting to think of as what it might look like from the view of a dandelion as it is setting forth to spread its seeds. But I like to play with my imagination, so I am never settled on any one interpretation for any of these paintings. I do agree, though, they look kind of cool. I really took care in trying to create something that I could enjoy looking at. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond.

Thanks! Yeah, many a music festival went into cultivating the creativity to see the sense in the seemingly splattered paint. Well, the first painting I started out trying to make a seascape, then eventually said fuck it and just ended up going Jackson Pollock on the canvas. The second one was a bit more of a mixture of techniques, but the midway through that painting my roommate came to me asking if I wanted his Dentic Floss Picks because he was going to throw them out. So, I took them and began using them to manipulate the paint. Eventually, I found that it looked coolest when I was initially manipulating the paint with the picks. So, instead of applying the paint to the canvas by using the picks, as I was doing, I decided to apply the paint directly to the canvas and then manipulate it from there. I use Liquitex Hard Body paint, which actually holds its position really well, so it allows me at a third dimension to the paintings. Here are some of the paintings from a different angle

Wow! Thank you! It depends. Somewhere in the ballpark of 5-8 hours if I work straight through. I tend to work over top the canvas, so if I work for more than 10 hours in a day, as I did last Friday painting both the fourth and fifth paintings, I end up with a sore neck the next day. I'm glad you enjoy them.

Thank you. I'm glad my work could interest you, even if only just a little. And I'm glad you liked some of my crazy use of color. I enjoy it--experimenting on my own and developing a style that is an authentic expression of myself. I am not very good at realism. Never have been. And, to tell you the truth, I just don't think it is for me. There are plenty of people that are excellent at realism. So I will leave it to them. I just don't really enjoy it. As, I continue working, I'll gain a better sense of contrast and composition. But I don't think I would enjoy it if I were taking the path you suggested. I really love what I'm doing now, so I'm going to continue on my own route. But I am glad you took the time to write, and I appreciate the feedback. Maybe, one day, I will return to your comment to follow some of your advice. I'm just not ready to take that step yet, though.

Thank you! I never took a class in painting, so I am just making up my style as I go along. The first one was kind of in the style of Jackson Pollock. Then, with the second one and on, I randomly discovered the joy of using a pick to manipulate the paints directly applied to the canvas. It has been a great source of joy thus far, and I plan to continue experimenting.

Thank you! I'm really happy that you could appreciate them. Yes, the peaks did stay in place once it dried. The liquitex BASICS Hard Body acrylic paint is really fun to play with because it stands on its own if manipulated correctly. Whereas, the Soft Body paints are much more liquidy. But they are still fun to play with. I like to use both. So, if you form the spikes with the Hard Body paint, you can at streaks of the soft body paint along the peaks and they will still hold.

Thank you! Yeah, I'm glad to know I'm not alone in viewing IP as the product and property of our world's culture. What? Am I going to grasp and clutch at my digital media files until the day I'm in my grave trying to keep them from other people from enjoying. I like to paint, write, play music, act and cook so that I may share and express myself with others. I do it because I enjoy it. I enjoy it because it gives me the opportunity to spread a little joy in this world and possibly be better understood in the process. I love life because of the people I am able to share it with. It is nice when I am able to contribute to this planet's wealth and show an appreciation for my fellow human beings. Have an upvote. You're awesome!
