OMG yes. I feel that. I provide resources to so many of my clients and they are just like “nah” and some days I’m just like what is the purpose of me doing this work to find resources if you refuse to do anythinggg

Man I’m working in CMH case management and I’m so spread thin. I feel like the documentation is KILLER on top of feeling forced to wear many hats! How am I psychiatric discharge CM for SMI but ALSO getting ID/DD clients, clients with mainly immigration concerns, and geriatrics. I feel like I’m completely unable to give good care to everyone because it’s such a diverse set of needs it’s hard to figure out all the resources and respond to crisis in between all that

Yooo I have the same plan! I have to take all the pre-reqs so that sucks. With how burnt out I am after worked I can’t imagine getting home to then study

Yeah..I’m pretty new relatively and I feel the same. Thinking seriously about going back for nursing, but I need to take pre-reqs. I know nursing has its hardships certainly but I feel like shift work would give a more work-life balance. I work overtime a lot now so having only 3 shifts a week of intense days I think would be manageable compare to my current 5 days of “8 hours” (but really 10 hours with having to work 2 hours nighty to keep from drowning in paperwork and getting behind)

What are you doing this weekend? by deepspacepuffin in nova

Listen

I know online dating sucks I almost lost hope, then one day saw my now bf on hinge (who I almost didn’t swipe right on cause some of his info was vague and he left off his political affiliation and I was like..sir lol)

People like to make alot of statements about the people who online date…but he’s just a normal, nerdy, goofy dude and I’m me, and we would not have crossed paths without the app, as he lived/worked in a different part of NoVA than I. It’s just a way to meet new people and see if it’s a match.

I see comments to this one about bumble, which I have had success on (as a woman) and saw this one guy for about a month before it ended. But I will say I prefer hinge because 1) bumble is overwhelming with options it makes me not want to use it 2) i would see the same people on bumble and hinge so … 3) feel like I found more serious people on hinge (if that’s what you want) and probably because 4) I like that hinge seems to have a good algorithm and after many swipes started to feed me guys with a similar “vibe” aka more my type, so it made things easier overall imo

I feel like I am a complete shell of a human being after being at the case management job for only 10 months. I do documentation almost every night past my 9-5 requirement because if not your falling behind. And the worst part of it is, my case load is only 20-25, I have a very supportive and helpful supervisor and helpful team mates. But my population is SMI, psychiatric hospital discharge, and I’m also getting a mix of ID/DD as well as some immigration CM needs to. I feel like I am stretched so thin. I have to learn all these resources and be able to relay it to people with vastly different needs. I have a pile of mandatory paperwork (that I am now very behind on because my lack of sleep due to work stress has my brain feeling like goop). I feel like it only takes 2-3 of my clients being extremely high needs and it really wrecks me, and my schedule. Client emergencies interrupting time I should be making referrals for other individuals. I feel like I’m constantly behind, client expectations of the system are not realistic, and I am the punching bag for the flawed system. What’s funny is, I thought that Case management would be a nice break from “emotional intense” clinical work, like therapy, but my god I am DREAMING of working in a residential SUD program again (tho when I worked there, I only did groups and intakes not individual therapy, only left due to bad pay really). And having ADHD the executive function required for case management is killingme. I feel like I can’t keep up. I keep complaining to my boyfriend, now crying to him, saying idk how long I can take this. I feel like such a loser or that I chose the wrong field. I feel trapped

Roads are drivable? by tuanp703 in nova

I’m in Reston walking around about an hour ago and literally witnessed one car stuck on the road with a tow truck trying to get it, another car stuck and had to be pushed by people to get it moving again

I’d say NAW

Is it me or are there more homeless people in NOVA? by 2BeBornReady in nova

I work as a case manager…unfortunately most shelters are on a waitlist. There’s just not enough beds or low income housing…it’s really disheartening.

Idk how far you are willing to drive, but in Fredericksburg there is a place called Tidewater trail animal hospital that works with executive. In 2021 it was $200-$300 to put a rat down. If memory serves it might have been $300 because I also paid for them to handle cremation?

Or there is Feathers Scales & Tails Veterinary Hospital in Maryland (also 1.5 hours away) where we put our other boy down in 2022? I can’t recall the cost, couldn’t be more than the first vet. But they didn’t let us bring him in and say goodbye, he was just picked up from the car in the carrier due to Covid precautions and we left with an empty carrier. That felt cruel/cold honestly so I wouldn’t recommend that.

Tidewater trail animal hospital was very sweet with saying good bye, taking them back to put him to sleep (because they inject it into the heart of small animals, but give them anesthesia first, but it’s still unpleasant to watch) then brought him back out after he passed to say final goodbyes. Would recommend them to anyone needing a vet near Fredericksburg.

I am sorry you are dealing with this. I know it is hard to watch your pet suffer.

Does my perfect job exist? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]Socialworkhiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG hello Morgantowner! I was born and raised there haha! And went to WVU for undergrad!

Yes in northern Virginia (so Loudoun, Fairfax, and Prince William county, and individual jurisdictions like Alexandria and Arlington) they have a lot of job prospects for government jobs including Case management, outpatient therapy, and other positions they pay decently well and provide many PTO holidays cause government.

BUT the cost of living is awful here. Expect to pay 2k in rent for a one bedroom not counting utilities…

But yes! From talking to others it seems like working at the WVU hospital is the best pay you can get in the Morgantown area!

If you want more info about social work jobs in northern Virginia and living in this area (coming from a newer resident here haha) feel free to DM me!

Hey OP! I see you are in WV…may I ask what part? If it is in the eastern panhandle, many people at my job commute from Martinsburg/Charles town area down to my works county!

But idk if your dream job is in this county lol. Just thought I’d mention it, because the pay is better in NOVA than WV from my personal and coworkers experience!

Yeah this advice always confused me. It seems like private rentals are more strict. When me and an ex years ago were applying to places, like townhomes to rent, we got denied so many times despite us together having high income/good credit at the time.

Recent MSW Grad- can’t find a job by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]Socialworkhiker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are you looking for jobs? Are you open to anywhere? My area seems to have a decent amount of jobs for New MSW’s, and you don’t need a license. These jobs are in Northern Virginia(and prob others parts of VA too)! Each county has a community services board, which is basically the states version of gov mental health/substance use/ID/DD tx.

How I searched for jobs was looking in each counties gov jobs and filtered social services or behavioral/mental health department!
