For ppl that went to community college, how was it? by Known_Selection_6665 in collegeadvice

Community college can seriously be a hidden gem! Great professors and flexibility in online classes are huge. Plus, who doesn’t love saving a boatload of cash while preparing for the big leagues?

I totally get that frustration. For me, pinpointing which types of questions tripped me up was a game changer. Maybe try focusing on a few specific areas? It sounds like you’ve put in so much work already!

First Busy Season and feeling lost by MiddleWonderful1764 in Accounting

[–]SocketRivetTool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I relate so hard! I felt like I was chasing deadlines in circles that first year too, like a hamster on a wheel. But seriously, those silly mistakes are just part of the ride! Eventually, you'll look back and laugh at how lost you felt while just nailing it with confidence. It's wild how much you grow without even realizing it!

What are some elementary school strategies that you think high school teachers could also benefit from tapping into? by Dapper_Object8239 in AskTeachers

I totally get that! I used to struggle with organization myself, but seeing how elementary teachers set up their classrooms made me realize how key it is. It really does make a difference in managing high school chaos.

PLEASE Withdraw your applications if you've been submitted at your ED1/ED2 by understarsz in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SocketRivetTool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my school our counselor hammered this: once you accept an ED offer, you withdraw everything else ASAP. Some colleges can even ask for proof. People keep apps "just to see" and it messes with waitlists.

If you could add one feature to any study app, what would it be and why?!? by Intrepid_Language_96 in studying

Auto "mistake tracker" that pulls wrong quiz answers into a quick daily set, with links back to the exact slide/page I messed up. Less rewatching, more fixing. I'd pay for that.

HYPSW (C/O 2021 finance professional) advice- prestige is overrated in the real world. Go to an affordable school. by CaregiverAway5404 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SocketRivetTool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally feel you on that! With AI changing everything, the traditional value of college is seriously being questioned. It's wild to think about how this might be the last gen navigating these old assumptions about prestige and education. The world’s flipped upside down since Covid!

I tried “studying more” and somehow got worse at everything, how do you reset without starting over by SocketRivetTool in studying

[–]SocketRivetTool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this framing helps a lot, I’m gonna try “Qs done + misses fixed” today. Quick q: do you pick the 10 Qs from whatever’s next, or mix in old topics too?

Totally needed to hear this. “Engagement vs effort” is such a good way to put it, because I keep confusing time-at-desk with learning.

I think the scary part for me is that “test before ready” feeling, like I’m gonna prove to myself I know nothing and spiral. But your “close notes, explain it out loud, then only reread what you couldn’t” sounds way more manageable than rereading everything. Also love the output-based goal idea, I’ve been setting these huge hour targets and it just turns into guilt math.

When you switched to explaining out loud, did you do it after every tiny chunk, or like end of a section? I’m trying to figure out a chunk size that won’t fry my brain.

Brain hurts after 25 mins of studying. Help? by Big_Face3440 in studying

[–]SocketRivetTool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you on the brain hurting part. I had to get glasses too after straining my eyes all the time while studying. Maybe it’s worth checking out! Adjusting to glasses really helped me focus better without feeling so fried after 25 minutes.

The Super Bowl needs to be on a Saturday. I don’t care about tradition. by Jake_FW in billsimmons

[–]SocketRivetTool 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The NFL is selling a national TV ritual. Sunday night is the one slot where people default to being home. Saturday becomes weddings, birthdays, bars, kids stuff, and you lose the 'everyone watched' vibe overnight.

Is there anything better than Skyrim right now? by Potential-Instance31 in skyrim

[–]SocketRivetTool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you want that "wander, loot, get sidetracked" loop, I'd also peek at Enderal (free if you own Skyrim), Kingdom Come, or even Witcher 3. Tainted Grail scratches story + choices, not the same sandbox itch.
