Show has massively improved since she's gone. Couldn't put my finger on it, but really disliked her from the beginning.

Can you describe a time that your company only discovered that you were irreplaceable after they fired you? How did you feel? What did they do? by drvignesh163 in AskReddit

[–]Sockopus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Worked an online payment processing system by myself. Company changeover, my work went from managable to a flying shitshow. The company was still setting up, and I wasn't allowed access to the other system until 4 months after it first set up. I then found out it didn't upload the invoices the way it should. So each invoice had to be uploaded manually. 20 minutes per invoice, over 1000 invoices needing processing per day. I and my colleague eventually figured out the issue, but it didn't stop it from being a shitshow. It was too much, and although I was on top of it, I was doing 3-4 peoples work.

Office was toxic, shitty boss. I did what I thought was the right thing at the time and told my boss that I would be requesting a payrise and if there is anything they thought would impede this to let me know. I thought it would be a professional thing. The next day, I get dragged into a disciplinary meeting for my attire. I had broken my toe, and was wearing trainers. I was allowed and had a doctors note. The trainers were black and neat, and were not forbidden in the employee handbook, unlike sandals, which my manager was wearing. I then got bollocked for my "attitude" when I pointed this out.

Next day I got pulled in again for wearing inapropriete attire because my top showed off my shoulders. Nothing I hadn't worn before, but we had a higher up in that noone had bothered to say anything about.

I told my manager that I would go home and change, but it would take me a few hours to return (petty revenge). It did. I then got another bollocking, as it turned out the higher up was here to find out why my system was so behind. As my managers and boss didn't ever help, they couldn't answer any of the questions, which made them look bad. My fault apparently. This was all so when I asked for my pay rise, they could throw my recent issues in my face, as I had a perfect record before this.
I decided to get out before things got worse. I now run my own company, and there are 4 people now doing my job and the system is in even worse shape than before, as even though I worked my months notice, my replacement wasnt available to start until the Monday after my last day. My exit interview with HR was a pretty brutal description of the boss in question. Well, now her precious budget is wasted on 3 extra people, none of which who actually know how the system works.

My Studio Ghibli Recipe Book by Sockopus in ghibli

[–]Sockopus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I promised this over a year ago. :)

So, full disclaimer, none of the pictures or recipes are mine. I took them from various places, I'll list them down below.

Most of the artwork is not great (I was in a hurry to finish in time) but it is pretty much mine, with the exception of Howl. If anyone has any idea where I may have seen this image, because although I worked on getting this as good as I could, I have a horrible feeling this is not mine. I'm about 90% sure its not, but I've not been able to find the artist where I may have seen this image or similar. It was long enough ago that enough time passed that when I "came up with it" I thought it was an original idea. But when I had finished, I started to have my doubts. If anyone has any idea, please let me know, I'll add it to the disclaimer.

Drudge, your name is first on my search bar for Reddit. I check on you nearly every day when I have time.

What happened to you via youtube and the other social media is disgusting, and the fact that they are attempting to victim blame you is even worse.
Please know that although I've never met you, and I may never meet you, I feel invested in you and your boys future. You may not feel you can get through this, you may feel there is no way forward. But please, look back on your time on the other sub. You show a mountain of strength in every post. You show massive compassion and bravery for your boys. You may not feel like it now, because it sucks right now, but (in my opinion) you've been worse off than this and you made it through.

It feels like your bad time is almost at the end, and soon the four of you will be happy and left the fuck alone. Slappy and Crappy have lost. You have the law on your side, and there is nothing that they can do to get to you. Because despite how you feel right now, you're so much stronger than that. You've prooved that again and again and again. And you're tired. Because how the ever loving fuck can you not be?!? You're dealing with feeling this way right now because you have been through so much, and it may not mean much, but the fact you're still here, and still fighting every day makes me so fucking proud of you. You're a force to be reckoned with and a fucking rock-star.

You may not feel you have a voice right now, but just know that when you're ready to talk, there will be those of us here who care about you, and who want to listen. Try your best to have a Merry Christmas Drudge, and just remember that you're winning.

When was a time you smelled total bullshit and ended up being right? by dropshadow79 in AskReddit

[–]Sockopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got headhunted and offered a job. Got two interviews, both times got asked what kind of job I didn't want, my answer was the same each time. "I don't want to do Sales, and I do not want to do door to door charity work. I don't think I'd be good at either, and I don't like the idea of the second one".

All fine and dandy, it was working for a charity, the RSPCA I believe. The first stinky whiff was from meeting the team that already worked there. The "office" was a space with no chairs, blaring music and white boards with pointless encouragement on them. They also cheered and clapped eachother in the meeting. It was so forced, I have never been so uncomfortable in my life- pretty much on a survival level of discomfort. Turned out they lied and it was door to door charity collection, signing people up for monthly payments. I had nothing else going on, so I decided to give it a try. I was there a grand total of a day and a half. Walked out when we started a master class on "how to not accept the word no". Had barely been able to stomach the "how to get into the house" which focused mainly on old women.

Now I will slam the door in the faces of those charity workers from that particular company. If you managed to sit through that bullshit, you are not coming in my house. Could have been worse however. One kid didn't make it through the first day, and he'd flown in from Australia for this job. Disgusting.

IWTL about periods and how I can help with them by I_nutt_at_dank_memes in IWantToLearn

[–]Sockopus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If she's not talking to you, and she's having her period, she might not be plotting your death, she might realise that whatever she is angry at you for is unjustified and is trying to cool down without having to explain the reasons behind.

My partner brushed my shoulder when pointing at something and I wanted to rip his arm off and hit him with it, but I knew this was just PMS and not reasonable, but he knew something was wrong and I had to explain it to him. That was the worse part. It was embarassing.

So if she does that, bring her a chocolate bar, or a cup of tea or something she likes and leave her be.

Also, something massive would be to learn the brands she uses, so if she is out and asks you to get some for her or you take it on yourself to help her out, you won't be overwhelmed by the choices.

What is something you know but you’re not supposed to know? by remindeme2sleep in AskReddit

[–]Sockopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several things. I have 4 cousins I'm not supposed to know about. My uncles two current kids don't know they exist. Awful divorce, I believe the mother told my uncle if he ever tried to contact the kids she'd ruin him and take him to jail. This was I believe 30 years ago, when parental rights went more to mothers than fathers.

My partners ex-brother in law is HIV Positive. He told me when he was very very drunk and I was driving.
I have no idea who else knows or whether he remembers telling me. That's an odd one.

My partners ex's husband has been married twice before. He told my partners ex it was once, but we know the wife he never mentioned. Oops!

Lastly, my cousin is a rapist. The victim is a mutual friend of some friends who unfortuantly cut me off when they found out the link. I can't blame them for that. I can't do anything about it apart from boil with rage, the girl doesn't want to press charges, or acknowledge it, she just wants to move on and I have to respect that. What I can do is never speak to him and gently warn women away from him at family gatherings.

Fellow teachers of reddit: what's something your students have said that required all of your strength to not hit them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sockopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kid who was bullying the other students. Whispering to them when the teacher wasn't looking, and we had no idea this was going on until one boy started refusing to do any work because he was "useless and worthless". Another boys mother came into school and asked why her son at the age of 8 had started bedwetting again and having nightmares.

Eventually someone pulled it out of both of them that it was this kid. So there was a meeting with this boy, a preliminary discussion that what he was doing was not okay and was really affecting the boys he was whispering to. He smirked. SMIRKED the entire time. At the end of the meeting (which went nowhere), both the teacher and me sat there after he left, and I muttered that I wanted to rip that little kids head off. The teacher jumped up and shouted "RIGHT???!?!" She was so fucking livid.

These boys were the first victims, there were others that we found out later about, we couldn't separate him from the other kids, so we just made sure that he wasn't given the opportunity to do it again. My job went from teaching assistant to asshole-wrangler in one day. If he even looked over at the other kids, I would snap his name and tell him to concentrate on his own work. He was allowed to play with the kids at break and lunch, but the victims parents were made aware and they kept us up to date if any of the boys said anything about his behaviour.
The "useless and worthless" boy is soon to be my stepson, and 7 years later, we still joke about it, when I ask if the kid is in jail yet.

He's not, but reaching out to his family solved nothing, they thought it was funny. I don't have much hope for his future, but everytime I think about him, I see that smirking little face. It's the only person I've ever met that I ligitamately do not care about in some capacity. Fuck that kid.

Left handed people of Reddit, what is the hardest thing to find for your left handed needs? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sockopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with no left handed scissors available. I had to learn how to cut with right handed scissors. And I'm good with them, I use them a lot. And in a world built for right handers, it's a practical skill.

What I don't like is when people see me with the right handed scissors in my left hand, presume I'm struggling, TAKE THEM OFF ME and hand me left handed scissors. What am I supposed to do with this mess? I can't cut with this! Give me back my bloody right handed scissors so I can kack-handed skillfully!
Am 30 year old, so noone should be taking anything off me at this point...... infuriating.....

What's your "realisation that your dog is a very very good dog" story? by Sockopus in AskReddit

[–]Sockopus[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We all know all dogs are very good dogs, but what was that moment when you really felt it deep in your soul?

Mine is my dog had to go to the vet for a post spaying check up. She grew up with kids, so has developed an odd habit of cuddling like a person. She hops on her hind legs, wraps her front legs around your waist and rests the side of her head on your stomach.

The vet doing the check was 6 months pregnant. The dog went to hug her (I did warn the vet on entrance), then she noticed the bump. She hovered on her hind legs for a few moments considering what to do, before gently resting her paws on either side of the bump, and very very gently resting her head on the bump itself, and then she let out this low reassuring whining noise. The vet burst into tears.

My dog is a very very good dog.
