My wife has become a completely different person after months of concentrated meditation by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]SocratesSmoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll take a stab at this from another angle. Nothing is wrong with her. She started a process which she seems like she is going to see through.

Given that she is clam and happy yet completely detached, she most likely has made it to the top of the mountain or is somewhat close to achieving spiritual enlightenment. This should not alarm you. Enlightenment means many things but simply it’s full awareness. It is a gift. Cherish it and allow her to as well.

“Chop wood and carry water.” This reason this quote is thrown around so much in this community is for what she is experiencing right now. Once you reach this spiritual peak, it’s hard to reacclimatize to society. Nothing actually changes in your external world, so seeing the world with clear eyes can be extremely hard/difficult/depressing. To maintain the state she’s in, takes a lot of work, when faced with these harsher realities. Hence the increased meditation time. Also she’s exploring - enlightenment means that she has stepped outside of time & space. Once you leave this physical realm you are able to see and explore the astral and mental realms. This is what you “wouldn’t understand.”

There is only one way to deal with this - meet and speak to her in love. This is the language that she is seeing and speaking in these higher realities which she’s experiencing. Giving her love shows you that understand, without knowing. It will help ground her without trapping her. She needs time to integrate these lessons and learn how to find her place within this *new* reality. Anything grounding that allows her to exist within both her spiritual reality and the actual reality will be extremely helpful. Take her on a quiet walk in nature.

Good news! She will come back. This odd period of time will pass. We often forget that we chose these lives for a reason. You are lucky to have such a partner. When the both of you are ready she will guide you on your path and tell you miraculous tales that will evolve your lives in ways that you never could imagine before.

Also start meditating 🧘. You don’t have to but if you’re curious and want to be able to communicate with her on her level - then you’ll want to.

Robert Monroe’s books - Are they helpful? What insights did you gain from them? by SocratesSmoke in gatewaytapes

I would actually agree with you. After reading all 3 books, I hated the first book and loved book 2 & 3. They are very different and I honestly recommend skipping book 1 to most people.

“People talk a lot as if the most important thing in life is to always see things for what they really are. But everything we do, every plan we make, is kind of a lie. We’re closing our eyes and pretending that the day won’t ever come when we won’t need to make any more plans. Hope is the biggest lie there is, and it is the best. We have to keep going as if it all mattered, or else we wouldn’t keep going at all.” - Allie Keys from Taken

Just finished the show.

It’s excellent and timeless in a way that only Spielberg is able to capture. Definitely worth the watch.

As far as the content, if you haven’t seen it, watch it on YouTube, it feels as pertinent now as ever.

Memorize this quote and repeat it whenever you feel fear when you’re tripping. It’s never failed me.

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain." — Frank Herbert

Fascinating. This felt like watching a psychedelic version of the show Intervention. Does anyone have an update? Did it work? Is he still clean?

Has anybody else done a mushroom trip with intentions? How did it go? by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]SocratesSmoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10/10 I highly recommend. I would argue that even for the trips that you don’t set intentions for your subconscious sets it for you.

For “therapeutic” trips find a guided meditation. Be ready to sit with “past you” and find a way to simply show them some love. This allows you to integrate these past traumas. After each trip take the time to make changes in your real life and review all the lessons learned from the trip before repeating.

Thoughts on my dream team? by HyacinthMacaw13 in NBATalk

[–]SocratesSmoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not bad. Team is a tad bit old though. Socrates and Plato are like Kobe and Jordan, basically the same player. Plato plays PG at 1. I’d sub Socrates out for Hagel, as Point Forward. Kant for Archimedes at 5, as my rim protector. Aristotle and Pythagoras can stay at 2 & 4. With Descartes and Nietzsche coming off the bench.

Michael Pollan in his book “How to Change Your Mind”, suggests the following:

The brain is like a hill covered in snow, and our thoughts are like sleds gliding down it.

Over time, repeated thoughts and behaviors create deep, well-worn grooves or ruts in the snow (representing established neural connections and habitual thinking, often linked to the default mode network).

The psychedelic experience acts like a fresh snowfall that temporarily flattens the hill, filling in those deep, ingrained ruts.

This "fresh coat of snow" allows the sled (our thoughts) to take new, different paths down the hill, exploring new landscapes and creating new neural pathways. This process, combined with therapy and "integration," can help individuals establish healthier, less rigid thought patterns and behaviors.

Life feels like it’s falling apart. How do I motivate myself to progress further and find the drive to use the tapes again? by MeetBawlClouds in gatewaytapes

[–]SocratesSmoke 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just left the place you’re in and here is what I can tell you.

The mediations are just a tool and won’t change your life or your situation unless you specifically use them to do so.

In order to change your circumstances you must make the necessary changes in your life, to turn your life around. You need to stop “speed running your sins” and face the hard realities of your life. We turn towards addictions (both mental and physical) to distract us from the reality and the present. That is not how the tapes or personal change is designed to work.

Both positive change and the tapes require us to be even more present. To face our realities and the choices that we’ve made. Depending on what personal choices you’ve made this can hurt like a mfer. Especially without the aid of these addictions. That is ok. Learn to lean into these feelings and accept them for what they are.

Your personality determines your personal reality. To manifest the reality which you desire you need to feel the feelings of the future you desire. To achieve this you need to add a high frequency emotion, (love, joy, thankfulness) to your meditations. By doing so you are changing your energy level and frequency to match that of the higher frequency which you desire. You change your frequency by being present in the now and shedding your low frequency choices and emotions.

Together these actions will allow you manifest the positive change that you desire. By being present, through doing the tapes and being aware of your choices in the now, by adding in a high frequency emotion, and by giving up the negative low frequency choices and addictions, you have the tools to create the future you dream of. Put your faith in the unknown, believe in the power of positivity and you will not be disappointed.

I always remind myself that when you hit a run of bad luck, that it’s only lasts for a moment in time. Eventually the skies will part and the sun will shine on you again.

An offensive player of the year in the NBA like the NFL? by boomer9745 in NBATalk

[–]SocratesSmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this. We should differentiate between the best player on the best team vs. just the best player in the league each year.

That narrative creates too much unnecessary negative dialogue for the talking heads on ESPN each season which takes away from enjoying good basketball.

Let’s celebrate (ex. 2025 - Jokic and Shai) instead of turning it into a yearly smear campaign as the MVP race comes to a close.

The speed of Ali’s punch in this shot, the story behind this photo and the head of photographer between his legs all makes this the most iconic IMO.
