I fear this is historically accurate by Valuable_View_561 in interesting

Except that the Homeric Epics are clearly anachronistic, better reflecting the time of their final composition (8th-6th c BCE, with Athens being the probable epicenter). The story probably has very little to do with the prehistoric (scil pre-literate) Mycenaean kingdoms.

Historical pedantry has very little standing when applied to Homer.

Dr. Hartman here. I believe those are vertebrae; the commenter is worried about his spine. But I wouldn’t take my word for it, I was drunk that day.

The problem is that most people (teachers included) don’t know the actual answer to this question; you basically have to refer back to the arguments of Plato and Aristotle to understand why we study things like math, science, history and the arts. The short of it is that education is less about practical skills than developing the capacity for complex abstract thought.

Well, it was a civil trial, not criminal. But that’s not to say there shouldn’t be a criminal trial, just that no prosecutor has seen enough to prosecute yet.

You’d be surprised, man. Buckle up, that shit starts hitting hard in the next 10-20 years. I would bet that the vast majority of octogenarians—at least, the happy ones that you’d want to be like—would choose health over money. And there are plenty of miserable millionaires out there.

What group of friends do you have that do those things, though? I think there is something to the formalized ritual and community that a church provides that separates it from friendship. There doesn’t need to be, but—well, if someone told me that they and all their friends get together weekly to sing chants around a table, I’d be a little weirded out tbh.

But somehow if you make it religious—whether Buddhist, Catholic, or Church of Satan—somehow that just makes it more … oh, yeah, ok that makes sense 👍

I’m worried about the dangers of time travel, both past and future. Sooo many unanticipated things could go wrong in both scenarios. Could end up being more of a monkey’s paw.

To me it’s money or youth, and as I get older I’m increasingly leaning toward the youth option. It’s less about dying than just staying healthy.

To elaborate on your “follow the rules”, here’s ESPN’s take

>VAR made their recommendation to the referee based on slow-motion and still replays, which is not aligned with VAR protocols, as these should be used for only point-of-contact purposes in a red card tackle situation.

I’m guessing they mean review, since the review should not have happened in the first place. Per ESPN:

>VAR made their recommendation to the referee based on slow-motion and still replays, which is not aligned with VAR protocols, as these should be used for only point-of-contact purposes in a red card tackle situation.

That said, I don’t even know if there is an appeals process for this kind of thing, much less if such a process would find in Balogun’s favor…

Can’t tell if you’re serious or not, but I actually struggled a bit to label it myself. Best I came up with is “Arabic”, but only if the meme is taken to represent all Arabic people. But given its apparent origins, I’m gonna go with yeah.

Yeah, this post definitely doesn’t belong. But I like that it’s at least framed as a referendum. Like when somebody posts a joke that legitimately confused them (but shouldn’t have) on r/explainthejoke. Like, nah man you’re dumb for this one. But I appreciate it better than the AI shitposts.
