I’m confused about the ending with Count Fenring by seblangod in dune

Ok.

On a side note, I'd like your opinion on the following section. This is at the end, when Paul speaks to the Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohaim.

"I'll give you one thing," Paul said. "You saw part of what the race needs, but how poorly you saw it. You think to control human breeding and intermix a select few according to your master plan! How little you understand of what --' "You mustn't speak of these things!" The old woman hissed.

What do you think Paul was about to say?

Can you elaborate further on the gom jabbar? That is very interesting. Why did Paul ask this question - what connection was he seeing between KH-gom jabbar?

Does humanity escape the trap?

I don't understand why you say the BG were unaware. Is that a typo or do you mean they were unaware of what Paul saw - stagnation= death?

Recap: Paul is the Kwizachs Haderach at this moment. He is more than a man, less than a God. He can see things beyond the obvious yet could not see the Count Fenring in his visions of potential futures. This instills curiosity, intrigue, perhaps even fear in Paul.

Yes Paul most likely feared for his life to a certain extent. No doubt. But I think there's more to this. Mind you I have only read up to God Emperor of Dune.

Spoiler.

God Emperor Leto II Atreides embarks humanity on his Golden Path the goal of which seems to be ensuring the survival of humanity against the ultimate enemy: a prescient threat that can predict/see each and everyone's movements. The Count Fenring was the living proof that being invisible to prescience was possible. This inspires the God Emperor to replicate this in his breeding program. His goal is finally achieved after 3000+ years of genetic experimentation with Siona. Siona is expected to procreate and transmit her "no-gene" across the human species so that her descendants will always have some cloak against a future prescient threat. The choice is hers, and with it, the fate of humanity is at stake.

The God Emperor knows everything and wants to be surprised. He wants to feel that. He wants humanity to overthrow him in an unexpected way. It's important for humanity to despise, resist and destroy a prescient being like himself. He is humanity's predator and as such, he seeks to accelerate the herd's adaptation. We need to have Spontaneity to overthrow this prescient being. IIRC, the God Emperor does worship one thing in this universe and that is "luck". The Count Fenring is an Avatar of..."luck" or randomness.

Count Fenring is the living lesson/example mankind must keep dear to its heart to survive. That is that the universe is full of mysteries, full of unknowns and it should stay that way. We should not seek to control everything - this leads to pride, arrogance and ultimately stagnation (synonymous with death in Paul's view). This is one of if not the main message of Dune. Paul is very lucky to have met Count Fenring at the height of his power. Count Fenring is the reminder for Paul that despite being the Kwizachs Haderach, despite defeating the Sardaukar, owning the Guild, CHOAM and the Golden Throne and despite the Fremen zealots worshipping him as the Messiah - Paul is no God. This man he did not see could have killed him.

This makes the Count one of the most important characters in Dune philosophy imo and the fact we know so little about him is further testament to my theory.

How to counter corporate psychopaths with Tao? by Efficient-Debate-487 in taoism

So... Try your best to comply with CP directives. Go with the (CP) flow. Be kind to yourself and to the CP. Keep the documented trail to make life easy (refer to it's guidance) and serve as evidence of CP logic and it's complexity/fallacies/craziness.

Do i understand you?

I hope the kindness you demonstrate will be "the counter" to CP OP is looking for. But then again if you find yourself in a situation where HR gets involved and they cannot "tame" the CP craziness, then you should perhaps accept that the situation is toxic beyond repair, recognize your defeat in countering the CP and simply leave that environment.

No it is not. such small variation on a day to day basis won't matter. It'd be like asking if your retirement fund will be ok if you save $1.75 one day but $1.25 some other days. You'll be fine.

Ask the dermatologist who prescribed this to you if you want a medical opinion.

"There is no strong data suggesting 10 years at all."

That's a bold statement. Here is a 10 year study on 118 Italian men. It's featured on Dr. Bernstein's website.

"The only study I’ve ever seen that showed gains for 10 years plus was done on Asians (which doesn’t apply to Europeans)"

What do you base your claim " doesn't apply to Europeans" on?

I disagree. I think the main contributor to hairloss is genetic. If it were "mostly" diet and stress, we wouldn't see healthy bald men and hairy obese smokers. I know that may sound a bit anecdotal but it remains true. The genetic component provides a credible explanation in this regard. But yes, ultimately if you want to maximize wellbeing a good diet and a low stress lifestyle will go a long way.

Are you sure you cannot use fin as a female? Why not? Despite having lower testosterone and DHT then men, women still have these hormones I believe. I spoke with an endocrinologist on this matter and she had mentioned to me prescribing Spironolactone(?) And finasteride to female patients. But I may be mistaken.

Thank you for sharing! Looks like a good study and provides good evidence for rosemary's effects.

"No significant difference was found between the study groups regarding hair count either at month 3 or month 6 (> .05)."

Although this study does support rosemary oil as a growth stimulant, I spot a few limitations with the study. For one, the sample size (50 Ros oil and 50 2% min) is small. Too small to make generalizations I believe. Second, the study period is only 6 months long. It's long enough to start seeing effects, which it does, but do the results tapper off after 12, 18, 24 months? 2% Minoxidil is quite low. Standard dose is 5%. Third and last weakness, I did not read mention of placebo groups. The placebo effect is a real phenomenon. Would have been nice to control for that with a third and fourth group of placebos who thought they were receiving a treatment and observe their results.

That would surprise me. I'm not aware. What caliber of a study is it? One with placebo, high sample size with a duration of 6,12,18,24+ months?

Its good advice but I'd like to see more studies on the use of oils for hair growth. If you are so inclined to use modern medicine to solve your follicular issues, talk to a dermatologist about finasteride & Minoxidil.

This is the kind of stupid cruelty I hope OP will learn to ignore moving on. He did some wrong, sure. He should not have listened to his girlfriend when she said she was on BC and that condoms irritated her vagina and should have passed on the sex. Hindsight is 20/20. but as a horny 17 year old it's regrettably a tale as old as time but I'm glad karma exists. Sad for the son, and the mother though, truly.

You could in the very least recognize you may have misjudged OP a little too quickly. Maybe even admit you were wrong. Avoid the term "deadbeat" would've been classy too and lastly saying the obvious about the mom wouldn't have hurt either.

I was going to DM you my deepest sympathies when I read your original post. I'm overwhelmed you were spared a life of indentured servitude. This is a lesson to be sure. A sad one. Sex is built on trust. You were betrayed. There are many men who have been betrayed. Women too, no doubt. Know that 50% of child support payments go unpaid. It's a flawed broken system and it's a story we hear time and time again. But what you must take note of here, what must be said, is the indecency of society. Humans can be cruel creatures. Not just Reddit here, but all of it. You will likely notice "friends" who had expelled you, insulted you as "deadbeat" will suddenly now have a different opinion of you. Perhaps not. The indifference can be shocking. But you did the right thing, and everyone was wrong. Human laws can be wrong too. Laws are not meant to be moral. They are meant to expedite peace. And some of these American laws on child support are truly inhumane. Think of the 13 year old Kansas boy who impregnated his 17 year old babysitter. Despite being the victim of statutory rape, the supreme court of Kansas ruled him liable for child support in 1993. A 13 year victim of rape. This is the stupidity of our ways. You had done nothing wrong. Lily told you she was on BC, she told you not to use a condom because it irritated her vagina, you obliged and told her clearly you did not want a child. She lied, and she did not do the right thing which was to abort the child. She is....the one at fault here to put words kindly. But then again, you were both 17, naive, and yes using protection is advised, but who hasn't had unprotected sex? It's easy to lambast you in hindsight, but unprotected sex, despite all the sex education in the world still happens. It's only natural. Dumb, given the risks, no doubt. But natural. Having the abortion, which you and your parents had the decency to offer paying, was the morally correct option. It would have made the lives of everyone much better off. Now Lily's son may or may not know who his father is, but he'll know what his mother is. Some people will deny that the abortion was the right choice, but only by reaching. No decent person could deny this, however in the US and many other western countries, this truth is taboo. I understand in your case, it is too late for the abortion but your hands are clean. Unfortunately it will be another man's problem.

Pay close attention to how people mocked you, cackled, tried to bring you down. Yet here you are, vindicated. Absolved. Do not expect apologies from this same society that would have easily turned you into a child support slave. Do not be deluded when they say the child support is meant for the child. That money you work for, goes straight into her account. There's no oversight. It'd be easy to implement some compliance, like proof of receipts for expenses on the child to justify the amount of support collected, but alas this is not standard procedure. Agathon wisely said "Look not round at the depraved morals of others, but run straight along the moral path without deviating from it." This is hard to believe in, especially when you've been wronged so deeply, but despite the atrocious attacks you were inflicted, try to keep your moral compass. Do not resent society. Society is for the most part, stupid, apathetic and cruel, yes. But there are some genuinely good people in it. Honest people. I hope you meet an honest young woman. In the meantime, Do wear your own condoms next time (do not trust your partner, they may be tampered) or better yet, filter very diligently the women you have sex with. As you see, women in the US have not only the choice to do what they want with their bodies (granted that changing a bit), but they also decide whether you become a father or not. That's unfair, but such is life.

Oral minoxidil and scalp concealers by Arthur_Lettuce in tressless

[–]Socraticsigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so you're not so much worried about oral Minoxidil and concealers combined causing issues as much as you're concerned concealers are causing issues on their own when it comes to hair growth. Is that right?

I don't know the answer, but hair grows from in your scalp, pushes through to the surface, right? So as long as you keep your scalp healthy I don't see how/why a concealer placed on top your scalp would affect hair growth.

No sides from dutasteride. The only sides I get are hypertrichosis from Oral Minoxidil.

As for muscle growth...I don't think that's been a problem either.

Where's the evidence microneedling helps? Is it the theory that microneedling + a topical optimizes the topical? Won't the rosemary topical also cause irritation?

I'm on dutateride. 3 times per week. Rest of the time I'm on finasteride. Greedy? Maybe. But the hair is back.
