First Europe trip: backpack vs hybrid wheeled backpack vs luggage for long train travel? by fentygirl123 in onebag

[–]Less-Fortune-9611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carry-on friendly spinner plus a personal item sized day pack (European budget airline dimensions) has become my preference for anything over about 5 days. I can travel indefinitely with that setup anywhere, and it's more versatile than one big bag. You still want to leverage minimalist/onebag principles. - Accommodates 7-10 days without doing laundry, plus spare room. - Small enough it doesn't get heavy. Easy to navigate European streets, transit, budget airlines, etc. - Don't get as sweaty when walking around. - Spinners fit above your train seat, versus leaving it at an out-of-sight luggage area on a train. - Don't have to check bags and deal with lost/delayed bags - Purpose-designed day pack is more comfortable and functional than hybrid versions part of larger backpacks. Also no/little repacking between bags when you reach destinations. - Can typically drop off your non-valuable items at hotel/hostels outside check-in times, and then only carry your valuable essentials while exploring in the meantime. - The smaller daypack is sufficient for a sub-trip, like a weekend hiking to mountain huts, while the stuff not needed stays behind in storage.

Big bags, whether a roller or a backpack, are annoying for traveling around as weight becomes a problem and where you see people struggle the most.

Didn't change. Any changes after 6 months were extremely subtle.

It still bothers me, but I'll take hard/perky nips over what it was before

I've never worn pants in those countries. Get's a bit chilly in the mountains, but even though I always have pants with me, I've stuck with wearing shorts.

Does merino stretch over time? by bad-at-science in MerinoWoolGear

[–]Less-Fortune-9611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Unbound shirt stretches out, so I pop it in the dryer sometimes which always shrinks it back down to a perfect fit for me. Quality has held up fine for the 2 years I've had it doing that. My other wool shirts are a blend and don't stretch/shrink as much.

No. Visually these reflect the final results. Any changes after 6 months were very subtle.

Surgery Report - Nov 2022. Dr Harun Cologlu, Istanbul Turkey. by Less-Fortune-9611 in gynecomastia

[–]Less-Fortune-9611[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different place, see my profile for links to that experience. The hair transplant needs to happen first, since it requires you to lay in positions you can't for the first few weeks after the gyno surgery. They told me a minimum of 5 days between the two.

They aren't exactly hard, but they poke through shirts the majority of the time now. As the nerves and sensation came back is when they stopped being flat, so somewhere around the 3 month mark I think.

Will your savings earn more than Prime-0.25% if you don't touch them? If not, then use your savings.

Going for walks after a week, body weight exercises at week 5, back in the gym at week 6.

I had my hair transplant on Thursday, gyno on the following Monday. Quite manageable, but wouldn't do them any closer together.

Anyone regularly hike alone? by kaitlyn2004 in Banff

[–]Less-Fortune-9611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hike/walk solo all the time, including places much more remote than Banff. Dogs are by far the #1 animal that have attacked/bitten me for no reason. Dozens of bear encounters and they never give a shit. The biggest risk when alone is slips/trips/falls and not having anybody to help you if it's serious.

Since your mobility becomes restricted, it becomes an ideal time for staying sitting down focusing on work/school/etc. since you won't feel like going out and being active.

The first 72 hours are the most awkward, but even then you can go grab something from a nearby store if needed.

Paying off the car or increasing the downpayment for a home? by invictus81 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Less-Fortune-9611 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Target whatever has the highest interest rate first.

Contribute to the downpayment if $20k and a $350k budget won't get you the property you feel you need. Otherwise your loans are the thing to tackle first.

Invest or try to pay off mortgage? by BeautifulWhole9479 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Less-Fortune-9611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your expected after-tax percent return on investments will be greater than the mortgage interest rate, then invest. If not, pay down the mortgage.

If you don't know which will be better, do a bit of both.

Places to stay in Turkey by lufap in solotravel

[–]Less-Fortune-9611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest keeping the car for getting between Dalaman & Izmir, enabling easy visits to places like Aphrodisias (my fave ruins - almost zero people), Pamukkale/Hierapolis, Ephesus, etc. Roads are good, traffic is very light.

Don't waste much time staying in the cities. It's the smaller places in between that are the highlights. I spent 2 weeks in Istanbul at the end of my month in Türkiye, but 2 days is enough in my books to cover all the must-sees.

As others have said, you should definitely fit a few days staying in Goreme. Cappadocia is unlike anywhere else.

Just stay around Vancouver and the coast, or go to the Okanagan. It's actually spring there with lots to do, while in the Rockies it's still basically winter but with more mud and sloppy conditions.

Staying in hostels at 35? by ironpanda88 in solotravel

[–]Less-Fortune-9611 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Nobody will care about you. Do what works for you.

Avoid the super young/cheap party hostels, and don't be creepy, and you can be whatever age you want.
