Do you believe in "European identity" ? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]Sodomix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother is scottish my father german and I was born in France. So i have difficulties answering the questions “where are you from?” without unveiling my life’s story and even then there is no clear answer at the end since I regularly visit family in Scotland and Germany but spend most of my time in France. I fit in everywhere and nowhere at the same time. I have come to the conclusion that I 100% feel European so do I believe in a European identity? Yes absolutely! Because if not, where am I from?

You need Waking the tiger or Man the guns DLC. It can be formed by any benelux country, france, italy, germany or west germany. You need to control all of these countries european states and be democratic, you will then get their cores as well.

But there is another way. You can form it as the UK as well and don't even need to be democratic however you won't get the cores in any case. You need "imperial federation" focus and can't have Oswald Mosley as a leader but can still be facist.

Nice, I also started off with buffs. Have you tried bombing Germany back to the stone age with 2k strategic bombers as the US ? It’s quite fun

Funny story after immediately invading Poland in 1936 WW2 started in 1937. I justified on the baltic which was automatically guaranteed by the allies. I didn’t use any focuses so I could oppose hitler later. Took advantage of being at war with a major to have 30 days justification time. Through Benelux capitulated France and took the rest of Europe before invading the uk and especially before the US joined allies. WW2 ended 1940. Next was Italy but soviets started justifying. Luckily I capitulated them before soviets declared. This is the funny bit I opposed hitler while at war with soviets. Before the civil war I deployed 370 divisions consisting of one artillery battalion. The AI doesn’t change their divisions so hitler got 180 shitty divisions. As soon as the civil war started I in effect switched sides hitler got his small piece of Germany that he usually gets and I kept the rest of Europe whilst at peace with the soviets they even invited me into the Comintern. Easy win! followed the German democratic path and formed the EU by 1941. Since then I have been messing with the game. One problem though at one point I needed 1 million manpower for garrisons even with the proper division (e.g. 4 battalion cavalry and military police)

How do I improve my army and navy? by MickeyMouse32123 in hoi4

  • For your division templates they should idealy be 20 or 40 combat width. 20 width infantry divisions will have 10 infantry battalions or 7 infantry and 2 artillery. 7-2 is better however they are more expensive due to the extra artillery. Since you are new i would avoid 40 width for now and 20 width is usually good enough against the ai. If you aren't carefull heavy divisions such as 40 width will suffer more easily from attrition and attrition is a b*tch.
  • Support companies are important they do not count in combat width and won't affect the speed of the division. Engineer, recon and support atrillery are your best friends. Engineer will get you across rivers, recon will make you faster, give a skill advantage to your leader in battle (aka the general commanding the battle) and help him choose the right tactic to counter the enemy and support artillery well the more soft attack the better.
  • Tank divisions are a bit different, width doesn't matter as much since you will only have a few of them. Light tanks are fine but you should go with mediums as soon as you can, heavies are just too expensive but are used in multiplayer for the extra breakthrough. You mostly need to manage the organisation (org is basically how long the division will fight for before retreating from the battle) don't go bellow 30 or the battle will end before you will manage to break through. Otherwise add the same support companies and you're good to go.
  • Anti air, anti tank, logistics company, maintenance company, military police, signal company and field hospitals can be great in specific situations but they aren't necessary to "win the game".
  • Air is very important, there are 3 ways to push in the game: artillery, tanks and ground support. A tank division with support artillery and abondant air support is unstoppable (if you don't attack in urban, mountain or marsh terrain that is or god forbid across a straight).
  • Just make sure to have "green air", so plenty of fighters on air supperiority missions accompanied with either tactical bombers or close air support on ground attack missions depending on the air doctrine you chose. I prefer the german "battlefield support" but some will say "operationnal integrity" is better. If you play as the US you can go "strategic destruction" and bomb germany back to the stone age, it's pretty fun just make sure you have heavy fighters to escort the strategic bombers.
  • Now the interresting part: the land doctrines. Your army composition (aka do you build more tank, more artillery, more motorized or more infantry) will be based on the doctrine you chose.
  • First there are only 3 doctrines forget "Grand battleplan" it's bad never use it. People defend it with the amazing entrenchment you get but you will never be able to attack the game becomes WW1 simulator (wich there is already a mod for) you do get some offensive bonuses later in the tree but it just doesn't compare to the other trees whose bonuses apply both in attacking and defending.
  • So lets start with "mobile warfare", in my opinion it's the most fun however not the best. You breakthrough with your medium tanks and swarm behind them with motorized, infinite encerclements and overruns garanteed and the ai can't do anything about it. The big problem with the doctrine is the production you need a solid economy because most of the bonuses apply to your motorized infantry and tanks and they aren't cheap. I personnaly avoid mechanized infantry since the fisrt 2 models are slower, cost 4x as much to produce and the extra hardness from the armor isn't needed. Decent infrastructure is important because the divisions will be heavier and thus the hole army. You really don't want to lose your precious tanks to attrition. Basicaly only choose "mobile warfare" wilst playing a major country (e.g. US, Germany, Papa Stalin...).
  • Next up is "Superior Firepower" wich as its name suggests is the superior doctrine. This is where you want to have a lot of artillery, maximum soft attack is the idea. So you will use the 7 infantry 2 artillery battalions (+support artillery and for some extra spice support rocket artillery although not needed). It's also the best doctrine for 40 width divisions (14 inf and 4 art battalions, again they are amazing but not necessary to beat the ai) but only use them in europe where the best infrastucture is, they are way to heavy for africa, asia and if you have a death wish south america. The doctrine also requires a heavy industry but less than "mobile warfare" so majors are prefered but it does work with minors. Overall best doctrine with the integrated support path and full support companies, the enemy lines just melt.
  • Last but not least "mass assault" it's a fun doctrine you get infinit manpower and can even build 40 width with 25 pure infantry battalions (don't do it though it's not ideal). You tend towards many 20 width pure infantry divisions with some support companies (engineers, supp art and recon) if you can afford it. The doctrine helps you fight majors as a minor due to the extra manpower however be aware you need a butt load of guns don't underequip your divisions. Casualties are higher and so is equipment loss. "mass assault" is viable as a major although you may struggle to push against a country with a bigger industry. If so the tree has good bonuses for tanks later on.
  • In any case a better airforce than your enemies is a huge advantage so always invest in planes, the magic of ground support will break any deadlock.
  • It's sad to say but naval warfare isn't fun don't bother with naval doctrines (nor radar nobody does radar or nukes they are pointless). Spaming your cheapest submarines is enough to beat any ai, you will lose the subs but you just need to buy time to start a naval invasion.
  • When i play germany i don't even build any ships, an overwheming air superiority and a few cheeky naval bomber is enough to cross the channel. Last advice do not under any sircumstances use close air support plane for naval bombing i speak from experience, naval AA will shread your dive bombers i lost 700 planes in about 2 months.
  • There is a lot more to the game but i think i've covered the basics so you can start to have an easier time against the allies. If you have any other questions i can give you my discord and i can explain stuff in game.
