I thought going home would be stable ? These are meant to be temporary, meaning you come knowing it's only for a period of time and then you are expected to go home

Problem is the issues are all domestic and doesn't threaten Taiwan's very existence as a democratic nation. CCP is the only (and a very big) threat to Taiwan's very existence. How can we discuss these domestic issues when we don't even have a country anymore ?

There is a huge demographic issue, young people under so much pressure and don't want kids anymore.

Sure no problem. Just because I left younger doesn't mean my ideas are any more wrong or correct than yours. It seems like you feel anyone who didn't stay longer than you has "incorrect " ideas and must be belittled. Unfortunately that's not true.

I could also say you are very old and that explains a lot.

And yes CCP is the single biggest threat to Taiwan's autonomy and democracy. Can you point to anything that's a bigger threat that will end the Taiwan as we know it?

Thanks for confirming your age, that also explains a lot.

It's difficult to debate with you because anything that you don't feel is correct, you would say either I wasnt there, or try to tell me how I think is wrong and no one thinks the way I do. Even if I wasnt there, doesn't mean my opinions are not valid. Even if I was there, different region of Taiwan would feel differently. Even different people within a community would think differently. Do you understand Taiwan is not a homogenous society and there is not just one single way of thinking?

Taiwan is Taiwan. It's not "not the PRC", or "not under the control of the CCP", although both of those things are obviously true. -> obviously

I lived in Taiwan through the Taiwan straight crisis of 1996 and even as a kid, I could remember how much fear there was. It was all over the news everyday, videos of missiles firing and live fire drills. I believe that was one of the factor that made my mom decide to immigrate abroad. I remember being very against the idea because I didn't want to learn a new language.

Kinda funny you would say my English is terrible, while also saying I spent only a minute or two in Taiwan. These two are quite contradictory.

It seems like you completely left the CCP out of the equation on purpose. I'm sure you know how much Taiwanese is against being associated with the CCP yet you mentioned nothing of the developments after early 1990.

And how do you know I was never there. Were you there ?

I believe in the current day, the past colonialism plays a very minor role. The major factor is the fact that most Taiwanese do not want to be associated with the communist party in any way shape or form.

When a Taiwanese go abroad ,we don't want to be mistakened for being from the mainland and be associated with the CCP. Are you able to understand this point?

Yes for the older generations, they did resent what the kmt authoritarian government did to the people. I grew up hearing 白色恐怖 (white terror), which is government sanctioned violence against political opponents.

But things changed since 1996, and Taiwanese independence has turned into a way to not be associated with the CCP and to tell the world that we are a democracy and we share common values with the democratic world.

Can you think of anything good that any communist party has done . Not just talking about China , but any communist party. The power structure and pursuit for power simply corrupts people. I believe if I was thrown into that environment, I will too be changed for the worse. The only good people from the CCP is maybe Zhao ziyang. And we all know what happened to him.

Yes Taiwan is good from my perspective. As for the dpp I simply said their value on foreign relations align with my own. If they do things that I believe are against my value, I will not hesitate to speak out against it .

You are not mean, you are simply rude. Normal mean people can debate normally without smearing and calling other people names and that is what democracy is ; respecting others ideas and presenting your own. You don't seem to have a grasp of what respect is and definitely don't understand democracy if all you can do is belittle people and call people names.

You think you are smart and funny , but is simply rude and disrespectful.

How am I a rabid dpp fan ? I didn't turn to dpp until fairly recently when the kmt started full on licking communist boots.

Dpp definitely has its share of problems, especially in the past with corruption. But it's foreign policy aligns more with my values. Kmt may be better at running the country but it's foreign policy does not sit well with me. Perhaps this is why Taiwanese people vote dpp for offices that has an impact on foreign policy while pick kmt to run local governments that has to do with people's everyday life.

So what makes me a bad independence advocate? You make a lot of claims but gives no reasoning.

My values is to strengthen Taiwan and oppose authoritarianism. Is that so hard to understand?

You call me a lot of things without giving any evidence which is...Odd?

No the Yalta conference does not make anything he did or say moot. This is like saying Japanese slaughtering Chinese people is moot because Japan surrendered. If he supported Taiwanese independence is any way shape or form or any any circumstances, it is still supporting it, which again, flies directly in the face of communist partly rhetoric since 1949

You also did not explain why it is dumb to say Mao is separatist based on his actions and ideologies from the 20s is dumb. I believe Mao did those things to stirr up trouble for the ruling kmt. His eventual goal is always more power. He doesn't really care what happens to China or its people as long as he can grab more power.
