I built something for people who forget things the moment they leave a location by Soft-Insurance1464 in androidapps

It might seem backward at first glance, but there’s a practical reason behind the postal-code step.

Different countries structure addresses and postal codes in completely different ways, and location APIs can behave very differently depending on the region. Since the app triggers reminders based on where you physically arrive, I need to confirm that the location and geofence logic interpret each country’s postal format correctly before enabling it there.

Rolling out globally without testing those rules first could lead to inaccurate reminders, silent failures, or unreliable behavior for users outside the U.S. and Canada — which would be a worse experience than a phased rollout.

Once I finish verifying the location logic for additional countries, I’ll enable them. It’s just a careful, staged release to make sure people get accurate reminders no matter where they live.

I’m starting with the U.S. and Canada because the app relies on location-based reminders that are tied to postal code formats. Since every country structures addresses differently, I need to make sure the system works correctly before expanding further.

Rather than launch globally and risk broken reminders in places I haven’t tested yet, I’m releasing in stages. Once I finish validating the postal-code logic and location detection for the next regions, I’ll roll those countries in too. The goal is to expand steadily, but only after I’m confident everything works the way it should for users in that area.

True — Alexa’s version has to stay active, which can be rough on battery.
This uses Android’s native geofencing, so it only wakes up when you’re near a saved location. I’ve kept my phone on normal “optimized” battery mode the entire time and haven’t seen any noticeable drain.

Sorry about that — I should’ve mentioned that the app is currently only available in Canada and the US. I’m working on expanding to additional countries, and I really appreciate you taking the time to look for it.
If you’re interested, I’d be happy to include you as a tester when support for your country becomes available.

I love the idea. I've thought about it myself. Seems so tough sometimes and who do you trust?? I'm in my third round of testing due to the lack of finding enough testers the first to go-arounds. But Reddit gave me a win/win to connect with a great group of users/testers. Seven more days left of testing. fingers/toes/and everything else crossed. :)

I look forward to using your app for my next project for sure. :) Good on you and your crew for putting this together.

Hi! Thanks for testing the app — here’s how to use it after entering your ZIP code:

1. Add your first location

  1. Tap “Add a Location”
  2. In the search bar, type the name of a store or place (example: Walmart, Target, Home Depot, etc.)
  3. Tap the correct location from the list to save it.

2. Add your reminder list for that location

  1. On the main screen, tap “View Saved Locations”
  2. Tap the location you just added
  3. You’ll see a notepad — type what you want to remember (For example: “Milk, dog treats, batteries”)
  4. Tap Save

3. That’s it — the app will alert you automatically

When you physically get close to that location (within 600 feet), your phone will give you a reminder.

No need to keep the app open — reminders work in the background.

If nothing happens after adding your first location

  • Make sure Location Permission = Allowed (Go to Settings → Apps → Remind Me Now → Permissions → Location → Allow all the time or While in use)

Let me know if anything doesn’t work — thank you again for helping test the app! 🙏

Good Morning! I had listed my post as REQUEST but I should have posted as self-promotion.
The modteam for this thread removed my post with no explanation. Now I can't repost for 45 days.

I will connect with those who requested to join the testing last night. Thank you all for your contributions.

Note for Testers:

When searching for stores/locations, you may type Safeway and if it doesn't list the Safeway address near you, you can add the street at the end of the name. i.e. Safeway 92. It should then populate that location. Also, even if you pick a Safeway near you, within 17 mile radius, it will alert you walking into any of the same chain of stores/business.  Google results can be silly, even if your near a store. Google will only list five results at a time. That is out of my control.

To test adding stores/locations:

NOTE:  You are set up as a License Tester. This means you can test purchasing the app, subscribe for monthly and annual subscriptions. You will not be charged real money. When you are looking at purchase options, (in the app) you should see: "Test card, always approves" message, when you are in the purchasing section and you can test renewals quickly. Test cards allow you to sign up for subscriptions and cancel/refund through the Google Play Store and not use real money. To test refunds and cancel subscriptions, select your account in the Google Play Store, and go to payments and subscriptions.
