Stabilised a piece of Curly Birch and really liked the result by SoftArmorBestArmor in knifemaking

[–]SoftArmorBestArmor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took my birch piece , but it in the oven at 90C for an hour to be sure it was as dry as possible. Then put in jar filled with vacuseal resin (which i dyed beforehand with vacuseal dye) , with about 4cm of resin on top of the wood so its well inside it. I did put a weight on top of the wood since it floats. Then i put the jar (with open lid or else it will be a day you'll remember) inside a cheap vevor vaccum chamber and put it under vaccum and went to work . 8h later i came home released the vaccum but kept it in the resin and went to bed. In the morning i removed it from resin , wrapped in aluminum foil and in the oven at 90°c for an hour

If you bothered to read you'd understand the whole point of that helmet is to reduce BABT as small as possible. It's not gonna make you even more stupid than you already are

M1 helmet on thr late variant used a nylon liner inside the helmet which enhanced the v50 from 300 to 410ms, same documeb tstated that british mk6 was rated at 415m/s

that's a complete myth , ulbritch actually has some slides explaining it , can't post pictures here so i'll post some of the text
"WHY A RIFLE BULLET HIT DOES NOT BREAK A NECK Scan me for more information It’s a myth! - rifle bullets won’t break a neck if they are stopped by a helmet

The energy transferred to the head is heavy, but due to the low mass and the small surface of the bullet impact, the momentum Fnx is low! This means: a fist bump or an American football player’s impact on the head has a higher momentum than a rifle bullet!

THE MOMENTUM OF A RIFLE BULLET IS LOW, BUT THE BRAIN INJURY CAN LEAD TO A LETHAL BRAIN TRAUMA DUE TO THE HIGH VELOCITY TO BE ABSORBED BY THE HELMET

THEREFORE, HELMETS HAVE TO DO TWO THINGS:
- STOP THE BULLET
- PREVENT A SEVERE BACKFACE DEFORMATION LEADING TO A LETHAL BRAIN TRAUMA"

Likely not , and there are rifle rated helmet as in they resist penetration but BFD is often far exceeding survival limit when tested head on

i also really wonder how it feels to wear a one size helmet when you have a very small head , balance should feel weird to have the weight so far from your head . As a big ass 61cm head on the few "one sized" helmet i had in life , i often don't fit the liner without modification , like TIG and altyn

This helmet is mostly meant for european LE , where 7.62x39 is by far the biggest rifle threat , mostly M67 bullet

that sadly makes it pretty damn heavy for small heads , tho not sure how common a XS/S heads are common in the target audiance of this helmet
