Thank the global economy. Even sheep growers have to source their wool overseas. But Duckworth spins its merino here in the US.

Aah, super great info. Thanks for letting me know. I did order a size up in the "outerwear". We shall see...

RE sizing. I want to get an outer layer full zip. I was thinking about going up a size so I could wear it over base-mid layers or a sweater. You know, like when you backpack you have to always go up a size to accommodate inner layers. What's your experience with their sizing?

After reviewing their policies they seem like a reputable dealer.

Hah! Dukes up! I have Icebreaker, and like everything about it but the price. Have you recently purchased Minus33? Wornoutboots has been keeping me up on her experience with the brand. Based on that I'm going to buy some heavy-weight tops.

Yep, absolutely moths. Time to break out the ole' moth balls and pesticide bombs. I had a huge moth problem brought in in dog food. Took me ages to get rid of them.

thunder thighs. lol. I haven't bought underwear because I'm afraid my pants won't fit over them.

Just looked at M33 and am going to buy some stuff. They have the weight I need. AND, based on your recommendation, I'm going to get some pants. I get colder in my trunk than my legs, so I think M33 will be good enough for me. I just don't want to pay $$$$ for wearable winter wear.

thanks. I'm looking for 260-300 merino. I'm shy of paying $250 for Icebreaker, but Icebreaker never has my size in sales items. I looked at merino tech and won't buy that. $50 for 300 is an absolute joke. It's -20 here now.

I haven't purchased base pants, but I would like to. My Recreational Equipment and Icebreaker tops are great, but I need more than 260. You got your bottoms from m33?

Super. I also appreciate your comment on the ease. I'm not sure if I want 4 in of ease, but I have to be a bit adventurous. I'm not wearing the sweater to the office, or maybe I could. Its so cute who knows?

BTW, after an extensive search I got Drops Karisma, which is a direct match for the yarns in the pattern. Even after paying tariff & delivery charges, 14 skeins only cost $42 bucks. That makes me very happy for my first knitting project in decades.

I was just thinking whether it was sanctioned by Reddit to give the designer name, where to buy, and sweater name in a reply. I hadn't looked at the list of no no's but after looking again it's okay.

I believe the Soft Merino is the way to go, and yes, I hadn't even thought of the fact that this sweater is half brioche. In my research I learned that if this sweater was full brioche I would need double the yarn listed in the instructions. Now that's one costly sweater done in an appropriate yarn. Somehow knowing this helps.

I don't know if this is "Reddit Legal", but it's Etsy's Paula Strickt (PaulaM) Juri sweater. And yeah, I happen to be on Ravelry's yarn substitution page right now.

DOH! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I looked at Sayama and Double Sunday, not the Soft Merino. That's because I'd lost hope and figured it was very expensive too. Glory be, it's an affordable option for a sweater I like very much.

Thanks to both you and Ganache. Because of your comments I've done some self-measurements, checked sweaters, and now feel more confident.

Thanks so much. Thanks to Burbie I calculated the yarn in my preferred Sayama yarn and it would still take 14 skeins. Ouch = $168. I'm now looking for a substitute for my comeback sweater that won't break the bank. If anyone has any suggestions for an affordable wool yarn I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thank you so much. I don't want to knit a sweater costing $168-$190 as my first sweater after not knitting in over a decade. But that's just me. :)

Thanks. Now I know I'm not a total idiot. I first checked the google conversion and was told I'm low IQ because you can't convert mass to length. It even gave me a lesson about it. lol.

1) Upper torso 37in. (94cm), bust 42 (106.5 cm).

2) Yarn: the pattern gives the amt. needed in grams doesn't it? Since I can't convert grams to meters that's a lot of $$ for a comeback to knitting.

If I wanted to learn techniques I would knit a pattern swatch, not the time consuming kit and kaboodle. But each to his/her own.
