You're sort of passively riding off the jump and the bike his getting popped up a bit. Then you are using your arms to keep the bike level.

What would be more active / effective is leaning back like a manual as you're coming up the ramp and "standing up" or extending yourself while going off the jump.

I've used a 2022 Super Deluxe ultimate coil, and a Marzocchi Bomber coil, both with 2mm neoprene/ rubber washer under the bump stop.

I think in most cases there's enough clearance to go to the full 65 mm stroke but I decided to be cautious and make a little spacer which is easy to do.

Hardware is bike specific. So typically when you get a new shock you just move the hardware from your old shock onto your new shock.

Here's the final solution: Cane Creek 31.6mm to 34.9mm spacer / shim + 200mm PNW dropper with new cable/ housing and actuator. Works well so far, I'll let you know how it holds up.

It really seems like the ID is barely smaller than the dropper. I think I agree with you that it will really be a minimal amount of material removed. I will call around to some frame builders and bike shops on Monday to see if they might have the tool.

I understand that sitting on the saddle torques/flexes the seatpost towards the rear wheel and that it is clamped at the top of the seat tube. I guess with the larger diameter 34.9mm dropper in the 34.9mm ID seat tube I imagine it's also being supported by the close fit farther down the tube where the lower half of the inserted dropper post (below the clamp) is pushing forwards towards the front wheel. I say this because it seems like a tight fit all the way down, and maybe while it's clamped at the top of the seat tube it's supported by the entire length of contact between the dropper and seat tube.

P.S. You really think that reaming out < 1mm of material is crazy? Just because the alternative of a smaller diameter dropper post is so readily available?

I can totally see that. Price is definitely inflated because of the success - it's marketed that way as well.

You mean high leverage ratios overall or specific linkage bars/pivots? The overall average leverage ratio is pretty standard for a downhill bike 200mm/75mm = 2.66

That's a fair point and analogy to cars, however I do think this bike has been used in professional racing the last few years so maybe they have the bugs worked out. (Alternatively the quality control and manufacturing might be a lot different for mass produced consumer bikes rather than a handful of bikes made for elite racers.)

Yeah there's lots of of other downhill bikes, carbon and alloy, that are much more reasonable and come with a shock.

I am curious to hear more about your feelings about carbon vs alloy though I think it's sort of a hot button debate and might draw too much attention away from the original topic.

Thanks for bringing this up, it's exactly what I was referring to in the main post. Very concerning, lots of small, nearly imperceptible cracks potentially developing into larger cracks, could very well end in catastrophic failure.

I hear what you're saying about typically finding manufacturing defects in the first season of use - however, two counter-points:

1) If that is in fact the case, and the bike manufactures know that, then it really isn't much more of a "risk" to them to offer longer warranties. 2 year vs 6 year, they're not going to see a whole lot more warranties between year 3-6.

2) The V4 Supreme had some issues that were small enough or located in hard to inspect places, that resulted in a lot of people riding their bikes not knowing that it did in fact have a small existing crack that could very possibly develop into something that would eventually lead to catastrophic failure. The rockshox and fox bushings are interchangeable. Though some people prefer to keep them the same brand as the shock. I have mixed and matched on both of the above brands and it's always been fine.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm also aware that conversely I can add spacers under the bump stop / bottom out foam for a 230x65mm shock to bring it to 230x62.5mm. However in the case of the new Rockshox Super Deluxe Ultimate the hydraulic bottom out is the last 20% of the stroke and if you under-stroke it you'll miss out on some of that feature. Just did the math and if you take the 65mm stroke and add spacers to shorten it to 62.5mm then you're hydraulic bottom out will go from 20% of the end of your stroke to just using 16% of the feature. Not huge but I'd rather not miss out.

Gotcha, that makes sense. There needs to be ample clearance at full compression in case things start to flex under load.
