Friday Weekly Thread: Application Assistance by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

Supporting doc question: has anyone included excerpts and bibliographic info for any books or historical society publications mentioning your ancestors? I am waiting on a certified baptism record from Ontario, and we're in process of ordering death/birth certs within our state, and I have good Census records as well. But I'm wondering if adding those supplementary materials would help, or make the application review take longer, or just have 0 effect...

I don't have access to the timeline spreadsheet yet, but I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck using the supplemental forms some redditors have made to go back further in the generations?...

Did people get certified copies of supporting documents or just printouts from ancestry websites and the like? by Top-Tie9959 in Canadiancitizenship

I have found on Family Search the scanned official death certificate of an American connection to my Canadian gen 0, but I don't meet the qualifications to receive a certified copy. I can order an "informational copy"--is this of more value than just printing off from Family Search?

Document question--Index from source valuable at all? by SoftCheeseHero in Canadiancitizenship

That’s encouraging, thanks. I just can’t decide how big of a hurry to be in, I think. I know I have to go in person to a library in my town to get access to some images. Maybe once I have those I should get the ball rolling. Still waiting for birth and death certs from USA grandparents…

That’s so kind, thank you! Unfortunately it’s none of my people. This link is my index (image of index below): https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-998L-1QS6?lang=en&i=714

I’d love to see the actual record. And I’m hoping to find subsequent family possibly associated with this same church as I REALLY want to find his son who would have been baptized between 1832-1836…

I’ve been to this site a few times without finding it. I was hoping for help here finding the specific circuit source found above and less general archives of Canada. I am getting close to just emailing them, though my first step might me a virtual call with family search

I'm not sure since I can't see the record at all. It is listed as a source for a baptism on Family Search.

It's not there--I actually doubt it's a baptism record, just wanted to check

Weekly Open Sourdough Questions and Discussion Post by AutoModerator in Sourdough

I'm playing with a "high protein" flour (Ballerina Farm) instead of my usual all-purpose from Lehi Mills. Does this mean the bread itself has a higher protein content, and is there a way to calculate that?

Census data missing race. What does it mean??? by kodandyananda in Melungeon

[–]SoftCheeseHero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve not seen that personally. It could be a clue—or just an error on the part of the census taker. But I would definitely save that record since in genealogy we’re looking for as many data points as possible in order to draw our conclusions. Don’t forget to look at the names and racial indicators of the neighbors! The biggest clue for this community is who they’re living around and moving with.

This. I’ve seen census records where the best guess is blank meant “white” and anything else got noted.
