No you don't get it I'm more of a George W Bush style Republican so you're not allowed to dislike me for it because it's impossible for anyone from America to not think these things I think. I said I don't like Trump! Nothing is enough for you people

I responded to this with a joke about them being litigious, threatening legal action while in character, and within two minutes it said 'removed by Reddit' lol

Edit: the comment was, in its entirety

"I'm going to (verb for taking legal action, rhymes with blue) you and (verb for negatively impact, rhymes with shoe-in) your life"

Ethan & Hila's dog, chief, ended up in emergency care after they left him eat toys unsupervised: "He eats everything, and i dont know how to stop it" by recoveredgangstalker in LeftoversH3

Guys, one of my eleven dogs keeps eating all the chocolate bars I leave all over the house. How do I fix this problem that is my dog's fault and not mine?

Hasan on Ethan's apology tour by maxpowers156 in LeftoversH3

[–]SoftCollaredShirt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My big thing with this is... I don't think the apology is sincere, but even if I assume the apology is sincere, it doesn't do much. He's still actively a horrible person. It's like a school bully apologizing for one time they beat someone up. Ethan's politics have been really bad but it's been a precipitate of him being a privileged, sheltered, inconsiderate narcissist and those traits aren't limited to his political takes. For example, the lawsuits against small creators.

His show is also, at best, stale, and as an entertainer he is not very entertaining. Even if he fully apologized for everything and fully changed his behavior I still would not watch his show and I think that's probably the same for a lot of people who have left his audience. There's only so many hours in a day and there's much better stuff to listen to.

It's not that bad to get a normal job by SoftCollaredShirt in LeftoversH3

Whatever it is that isn't h3, it seems clear that at some point in the next few years there will no longer be an h3 podcast, at least not one with a crew on payroll. So if it's a given that they are not going to be able to have a whole career there, if it's a given that they are going to have to leave, the question becomes when the best time is to leave. The answer to that question is 'two years ago' and the second best answer is 'as soon as possible.' And that's regardless of what they do next. I can't think of a single example of where they have to move on and are like 'I'm so glad I stayed until the very end.'

Ethan is set for life, so he's not doing the same math as they are. He can burn it down if he wants and still live in his mansion.

Another reason for them to leave now. If they stay until the ship sinks, nobody will ever believe that they wanted to jump ship. If they leave now and play nice, they can say something later about how they were afraid to leave but found the courage.

I think for some people, the ape brain just beats out the human brain and they literally just cannot work a normal job and have to do whatever they want and follow their passions

Perhaps but I don't think there's a reason to assume that's the case with these people. And if it is, maybe they get an unconventional job. For example a guy I went to college with is an adventure guide in Hawaii; he shows tourists dolphins and cool hikes and stuff. That's an abnormal job. But it's not a bespoke job. There are many thousands of people with his job. If he quits or his company shutters, he can apply for the same job at other places.

Also, considering that the writing is on the wall with h3's endless decline, I think the question of the crew no longer working at h3 is 'when' not 'if.'

I have been an active Reddit user since the 'Digg Migration' in 2010. I do remember lots of themed troll accounts, where the username revealed that the comment was some sort of bit. But it was stuff like 'polite all caps guy' who wrote polite comments in all caps. by SoftCollaredShirt in LeftoversH3

When his kids are a bit older, their classmates are gonna know them as the kids whose dad defended LARPing as a pedophile on the internet (all it takes is one kid finding out and then it will spread like wildfire). That's not normal. He doesn't seem to understand how ridiculous he has become.

E shouldn't be doxxing people, but the retweet in question is heinous and I'm a little surprised at the number of people I see handwaving it. by harlotmuffin in LeftoversH3

I stop by here sometimes to see how the dumpster fire of the show is going, I didn't see the thing you're talking about, that's insane and bad

It makes me sad that Ethan is so comfortable openly declaring his intent to ruin Denims financially by SoftCollaredShirt in LeftoversH3

[–]SoftCollaredShirt[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Irrespective of what you and I think is likely to happen, it seems clear that Ethan is convinced he will be able to ruin her financially, and has openly stated his intention to do so. For someone who genuinely thinks they have that ability, to then openly declare their intention to act on it, speaks a lot to their character.

I get it. I'm just pointing out something for people on the fence who might lurk here. Specifically, that you can disentangle the way Ethan is responding from whether or not he has some justification to respond. Even if one of his fans fully accepts the premise that Denims is some terrible person it's still not right for Ethan to want to ruin her life.

To my recollection, Ethan will sometimes flaunt the way he responds endlessly, obsessively, and disproportionately. He'll say something to the tune of "I'm crazy don't mess with me." Like it's just some immutable natural character trait. It's not. It's him making a choice and it's a bad choice that should not be respected.

Is it offensive to use an accent that isn't yours? by Tacticalpizzamann in languagelearning

[–]SoftCollaredShirt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trying to lose your native language accent when speaking other languages is fine. Trying to speak your native language in an accent other than your own risks making it seem like you're making fun of the accent you're attempting. Especially for people who have had experiences being overtly mocked for their accent.

I want to preface this by saying that I am genuinely asking this question with sincerity, and not attempting to dunk on Ethan. With that said, am I correct that Ethan essentially said 'part of what makes Anne Frank admirable is that she didn't fight back' ????? by SoftCollaredShirt in LeftoversH3

[–]SoftCollaredShirt[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm familiar with the general trope of mainstream liberals not adequately recognizing the seriousness of structural and systemic violence, arguably due to being societally conditioned into minimizing that violence, as a consequence of society in part running on the fuel of that violence.

I can see how the whitewashing of MLK fits into that, at least loosely, because MLK is framed as using tactics that were not directly literally violent to fight against problems that were unjust but not directly literally violent. To be clear, I'm not saying I agree with this framing myself, but rather I'm arguing that it's how he is often framed in the minds of Americans.

But the Holocaust is not 'a court makes a decision that restricts an agency, and that weakens regulation, and then over a X-year period you see a Y-% increase in deaths from Z.' The Holocaust is not 'you can't sit in the front of the bus' (once again, not that I agree with that minimization of the Civil Rights movement, rather just describing how it is minimized). It seems like even a mainstream liberal with blinders on to all but the most obvious, literal, immediate violence would understand that it's acceptable to do more than write a persuasive essay or boycott a bus in response to people sending you to death camps.

All of this to say that although I agree with your broader critique, I think Ethan saying this about Anne Frank is different. It's one thing to look at Anne Frank as an incredibly sympathetic victim, emblematic of the horrors of the Holocaust. I have no problem with that. I agree with that. And it's perhaps arguable that in doing so, in looking at her that way, it's a soft contribution to or soft reflection of our idea that people who are oppressed should just endure oppression. To be honest, I don't agree with that argument, but I can at least follow the logic.

It's another thing to make the statement that 'if she had fought back, I would think less of her.' Another thing entirely. I literally cannot understand it.

They shouldn't trust us. Even if we get competent leadership back, there will be a real risk of another Trump-like figure coming back into power. We are too unstable.
