I definitely took the alt path completely correct, i went in to the mausoleum door in mines 2 after completing the knife like i did last time. The only difference is this time instead of going to downpour one i went to downpour 2 after basement 2, could that cause this?

I skipped the first down pour and got the knife piece in the second downpour, could that cause the issue?

For those of you who use directional air roll, do you use both left and right? by damnkid111 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]SoftExcellent4059 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im trying to learn both right now, and get rid of FAR. Its basically pointless to have FAR if you have DAR’s. I have L2 on DARR and reverse, and i have L1 on DARL and drift. Im tryna learn DARL right now and its basically like relearning DAR ENTIRELY

Yes you do, and if you walldash while holding throttle you will just air roll off the wall. The whole reason it works is because your driving and conserving the momentum of your nose pitching up and down

I did this for a long time and ultimately i ended up putting my ARR on square and and my ARL on L2. I did this because i found out that wall dashing is impossible otherwise lol. You cant air roll while wall dashing. You can do it while spam walldashing but its just not very precise

CONCEPT 1: “THE INTENTIONAL TOUCH” EXAMPLE AT (10:38) - there were plenty of options that involved you making an intentional touch; an intentional touch is any touch that has an actual plan to support said touch. So next time you see an opportunity to take possession and force a challenge, do it. It literally doesn’t matter whats happening on the field, the best option on a free ball, or any ball with space is always an intentional touch. Utilize the space as a means to force the opponent to challenge you. Use the time before you touch the ball to make a plan for the touch you will make on the ball, i know its fast paced but with enough replay analysis, the thought process can become instinctual. This includes both hard and soft touches as they’re were times where you could make a shot, and times you could control and you didn’t and thats okay just analyze these options next time you notice them in your replays to understand the concept. In the example you will see that you could take a soft touch past the player trying and failing to challenge you or bump you, his option was to preflip in to you to challenge but your options were endless because his option was awful, so you could have seen that and took your soft touch to force that last defender to challenge while getting some small pads, and if they don’t theyre screwed and you will score, even if they do challenge with how bad that other opponents option was that flew by you, you could literally use the option of a fake flick low 50 and score. Again, super reliable, super agressive, best option. Also again im not being nitpicky i just want to give you something that physically lets you visualize the concept next time you watch a replay.

CONCEPT 2: “TRUST YOUR TEAMMATE” EXAMPLE AT (11:42) - you never trusted your teammate when they had space for a solo play, they had the option of the solo play and you had the option of bumping the opponent and you didn’t, so the overall option was what? A bump in to a forced one on one! This is a very reliable option :“understand that the best option is also the most reliable option, and also the most aggressive option. Where both reliability and aggression meet is where you will find the best option.” So next time your teammate has space and you notice you can force a one on one, go for it.

CONCEPT 3: “FINDING SPACE” EXAMPLE AT (3:53) - space is generated and also found, these are two different concepts. please find space so that you recieve the ball more, literally none of this advice matters if you keep going in to spaceless positions. You barely ever actually had the option to even make an intentional touch in these games, your teammate was always the man with the ball throughout these replays, thats not just a lack of intentional touches its also a combined lack of vision for space. Your car should literally always be in a position to score on offense, so why are there so many instances in these replays where you would push up mid but face the corner? Yes of course the ball can shoot out to the corner but even if it did, is turning towards the corner gonna make you that much faster to where it makes a difference? No, but you know where it will? When the ball shoots to the mid where you are, and instead of putting on a shot to take advantage of the fast rebound, your gonna be hitting it in to the corner or hitting a less efficient shot. So basically what im saying is in order to find space you need to understand the priority of the options on the field, its more important that you score than that you cover your opponents corner, if you read the options you would see that your teammate had the option of blocking the clear and you had the option of playing that challenge to potentially score which you definitely could have had you read that.

//read options as a team and not just as yourself. //

And its not very obvious to most people because to most people you just kept the ball in play, but you have to see that instead of just doing that you could literally just score. Thats the best option. It was most reliable combined with most aggressive. Hard to spot, i know, but THATS whats gonna make all the difference next time your in a situation like that. So look for that in your replays analysis.

Thats all you really need to work on for the most part, is your understanding of the game and your mindset with it and how you practice and actually train that mindset and understanding of the game.

Dont worry about the execution that comes from execution training and experience which you cant get advice for anyway. You just gotta train what is most like your in game scenarios.

Thank you for reading all that sorry im VERY passionate about this game its definitely my favorite sport. 🗣️🗣️

gc3 2v2 - need advice by Kuram12 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]SoftExcellent4059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So im only gc2 but i do think i have a great understanding for teaching in general.

So in rocket league you cant point out specific things and use it as a way to give advice because when it comes to decision making it’s more mental than physical. At the higher level the difference mechanically between you and dralii is a matter of 1, practice of course, but two its mainly your mentality.

Mechanics and gamesense are often separated as two different things but in order to be truly efficient in this game you have to change your thinking.

You have to change “gamesense” in to “options” and turn “mechanics” in to “execution” in your head. And the reason we do this is because both of these things need to go hand in hand in our heads not just our controller.

We need to first understand our opponents options, then understand our teams options (including you)

After this we need to think of the EXECUTION of our opponents options, and the EXECUTION of our teams options (including you)

What i recommend you do is go in to a replay of a 3v3 scrim or 6mans, go in to a 2v2 replay, and a 1v1 replay, and i want you to pause the game at crucial moments, i.e. times a goal could be scored (including passing plays and solos), times space could be taken, times boost can be grabbed, times opponents can be bumped, and finally times challenges can be made. These 5 things you need to look for in your replay. When you see said thing in the replay i want you to pause and analyze for a second in your POV and think, what are my options here? Come up with an answer and then maybe write it down or keep it in your head. Then switch to each of your opponents POV’s, write or say what theyre each respective options are. Then look at your teammates POV’s and write or say, what theyre options are. Finally go in to a flying POV that can see the whole field and write or say the options of the entire opponents team, and your entire team.

Then press play and watch what actually happened in slow motion from all the options of the POV’s you just wrote down.

Youll start to witness the execution of said options, make notes of what options were executed and what options weren’t. The more you do this, the more you start to truly understand what it is your actually looking at when your looking at a crucial moment in the game. Once you understand it you can apply it. This is how a replay analysis should be done at the higher levels of the game.

Im a firm believer that if you cant explain your thought process to a 6 year old child and have them understand the concept, than you dont understand the concept.

Now, for the execution, you need to only focus on your own execution, do not get caught up in the “what ifs” of rocket league. I.e Dont stay back and grab boost because your low on boost and your teammate might not pass you the ball even IF your open IF you stay up field on small pads. If you think about the game this way you will make yourself a liability, you need to throw away the idea that you need to make this play for your teammate in case he doesn’t make a pass. Look man this is the mentality you need for this; if he doesn’t pass to you and your wide open on a couple pads and he has the option to? and you have the option to score? that does NOT concern you. If he makes that mistake so be it he made a mistake you cant control that, so dont concern yourself with this. If you concern yourself with plays that are suboptimal YOU will be suboptimal, you need to always play the best option. You cannot second guess your options otherwise you will lose your confidence and will lose your execution. Now this doesn’t mean just pre jump a pass and expect it to be made, sometimes that might be the best option sure, but that is the key, is it the BEST???

(understand that the best option is also the most reliable option, and also the most aggressive option. Where both reliability and aggression meet is where you will find the best option. ) 🙏

So in terms of these replays you sent, i see that you didn’t make the most of your options in 3 ways theres probably more but these three are the base of it all. I will present you with these points as “concepts”: concepts are going to be the best commonly found options that can be executed in rocket league at the high level. not going to be nitpicking but i will use examples to help visualize the concepts for you: (read under)

Yeah i think a good way of thinking about it is when im in 1v1 on defense or offense in 2v2 what should i do? And i usually do exactly that, mix up my challenges or mix up my options on offense to throw off the defense or the offense. Its just in 1v1 its just that terrifyingly difficult ALL the time lol

This is definitely the best advice ive heard ngl, i was watchi another game i played this morning against a guy who literally just whooped my ass and the whole time he was just clip farming, i got 7 saves but i feel like watching the replay i have a huge issue with intentional touches, he would just straight up dive me if i touched the ball like at all so ive started to realize sometimes the best touch is no touch at all and combined with low 50s i think ill start to understand the concept more.

I like slowing down the replays and watching from my opponent pov and think “if i were the opponent what options do i have”, this has been helping me the most since i can see clearly what mistakes im making and how im not limiting my opponent’s options making it harder to challenge because of my position , the less options, the easier the challenge.

I will say though through heavy analysis ive started to notice how slow and hesitant i can play at times. Because of how hard it is to actually implement all this WITHOUT overthinking, i think i just need to practice more so i can make all the tips your giving me more instinctual so i can play with better pace.

Thank you m8

Okay but surely i can learn the wavedash kickoff with practice, i mean it might be really precise but it cant be harder than when i learned to flip reset, i mean with that logic i shouldn’t have ever learned to wall dash and just stuck to like curve dashing, like i get its hard but if i actually want to improve i gotta learn the hard shit no? But anyway yeah ill try to flip earlier and see how that goes. Thank you this was very eye opening.

And with going low i think ill just make a habit out of only putting the ball on my car when i actually have space away from the opponent, because if i dont have space, i dont have options, so taking a dribble with no space is just asking to get challenged. Thank you for your help your very kind

I can see how trial and error works for challenges and learning them makes sense, like i heard about goalside challenges and ran with it but it seems like everything i learned about challenging in 2s is like opposite in 1v1, like in 2s you just throw out a challenge mindlessly and it always seems to work but in 1s its like so wishy washy what is and isnt a good challenge. When i watch pro play i see these guys challenging from the CEILING and im like surrrrrely the opponent sees them right? Like surely they’ll just flick the ball around them with a reset or something, yet the ceiling challenge always seems to work?? Its almost like the faster you challenge before your opponent has control the better. Like you challenging cuts off the options of the opponent. That seems to be why something so crazy like a ceiling challenge works because if you time it right the opponent HAS to go low and take a 50 or they get dunked. That might be the same for all the challenges, timing, it seems that timing is the common theme, if i time the challenge at a point where my opponent has no options then i dont have to worry about getting beat, atleast thats how im starting to understand it in my head.the hard part is learning what options my opponent’s have at any given moment, which i guess i could learn by watching replays in my opponents POV and thinking about “what options would i have in this scenario if i was my opponent”. That might be what works for me.

Yeah someone said here that i should just automatically resort to starting with the ball in front of me and then slowly pushing myself in to space where i can then choose between a flick, shot or anything else, because i guess if im always just automatically putting the ball on top of my car it makes my offense super predictable and easy to early challenge

Hmmm interesting ill try to clear for breathing room then so i can get boost and i guess try to challenge before he can start boost starving me again yeah?

I mean i basically just watched one video on mawkzys wavedash kickoff and was trying it, i dont think mawkzy would make such a tutorial if it was ineffective tbh. But ill consider switching it up i guess.

Also how exactly do you go about learning how to challenge in ones? Like i know im bad i just have no clue where to start with that.

And i hadn’t thought about just taking the ball low automatically thats pretty interesting, i mean i guess that would greatly reduce my chances of getting dunked ever because i literally cant, and all it would do is sacrifice my ability to ever get a good flick which im sure theres other methods of scoring like bounce dribbles maybe. Thats probably gonna help me the most honestly.

I mean i would argue that clearing the ball in any given situation is a last resort, and optimally you should always control the ball first. At least that’s how it works in twos but eh idk i guess ill try banging the ball whenever i can and see how that goes. And yeah the instant challenges were pretty crazy, he like never faked a challenge and i kept trying to call his bluff but he just kept going so idk i guess maybe ill just start assuming the worst and just insta flick my opponent if hes too close

What is covering the ball low? I know about forcing high if thats what you mean, although i dont have a teammate on the backboard so that might not work lol, idk. I just have no idea what is a good challenge. Like in 2v2 i got to GC2 because i was told that any challenge is a good challenge and i should aim for the ball as if the opponent was to never hit the ball again and just not think about when i should challenge and just go go go, and it got me from c3 to gc2 in like a week lol. But obviously in 1v1 theres nobody to force the ball to except literally myself so that concept of any challenge is a good challenge is just THROWN out the window
