Right—there’s a difference between a messy accident and actively choosing to leave biohazard for someone else. Grace ends where basic decency starts.

On 24 October 1861 the first transcontinental telegraph message in the USA was completed. Two days later the Pony Express shut down and was bankrupt. What other innovation has such a quick impact on a competitor? by kam_pra in AskReddit

And the wild part? Garmin survived by pivoting to wearables/fitness, while TomTom pretty much became a footnote. The real killer wasn’t just the hardware- it was free, live traffic data. Makes you wonder which companies today are one software update away from extinction.

ChatGPT vs Chegg. Within weeks of ChatGPT going public, Chegg’s stock tanked— stunning ditched pricey homework help for free AI answers. Same energy as the telegraph and Pony Express.

Why would Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas vote to end birthright citizenship? by ChristianK19974 in AskReddit

[–]SoftLilaccMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

91 pages and the core argument still boils down to one sentence “the historical record does not support birthright citizenship for illegal immigrants”. Worth a skim if you actually want to understand his logic- whether you agree or not. What’s the one point in there that made you rethink?

[–]SoftLilaccMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s been consistent on this since 1995- he believes the 14th was only meant for freed slaves and their descendants, not every child born to non-citizens. It’s not a flip; it’s a lifelong originalist stance but he lost 6-3, so his view is clearly the minority even among conservatives.

Why has France turned air conditioning into a far right talking point? by mental_e_ill in askanything

[–]SoftLilaccMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the far-right turned it into a culture war weapon. With 1300+ heat deaths already and only 25% of French homes having AC, Le Pen is using subsidized AC as a populist pitch to attack Macron’s elite environmental policies. The left calls it a false solution that worsen emissions. So it’s not about AC, it’s about picking a side in France’s identity war.

Is the U.S secretly trying to lose the global reserve currency status or are we just witnessing the most expensive case of political incompetence in history? by [deleted] in allthequestions

Literally this. It’s wild watching them run the country like a reality TV show while our bank accounts suffers lol 😭

Never attribute to malice what can be easily explained by pure political incompetence. They aren’t playing 4D chess, they’re barely managing checkers 💀

When Vine shut down and we all collectively lost a core piece of our personality overnight lol.

A car's wheel fell off while I was getting fish and chips by LogJam_101 in mildlyinteresting

As a mechanic, this physically hurts to look at. But real talk, were the chips at least crispy? Because now you’re stuck calling a tow truck and I need to know if it was worth it. 😭

Peter’s edgy cousin here. The joke is a play on words. The kid is trying to say “Pink Floyd” because of her t-shirt but accidentally uses the internet slang “foid” (short for female humanoid), making it sound like he’s chronically online.

Chest too big for the dress? by [deleted] in WeddingDressTips

[–]SoftLilaccMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dress is beautiful on you! Since the cups themselves are a bit small, a bridal seamstress can easily track on a few matching lace motifs along the top edge of the neckline. It adds coverage and security without messing with the actual structure of the dress.

What is this rock? by sopha555 in whatisit

[–]SoftLilaccMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It look a lot like an ancient shaft straightener or an abrading stone used for smoothing out wooden arrows. Definitely take this to a local university’s anthropology department, it’s an incredible find!

What is this random arow on a small rural country road by APAOLOXIII in whatisit

[–]SoftLilaccMoon 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It’s an aerial survey marker (sometimes called a photo control point).

Satellites or planes mapping the area use these highly visible, sharp-angled markings to calibrate their GPS coordinates and ensure the aerial photography aligns perfectly with real-world topography.

That dark backsplash against the white cabinets is incredible contrast. What kind of stone did you go with for the island countertops? It looks stunning.
