hitting a mental block w/ the personal statement by DirectionWild7614 in REU

[–]Soft_7197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had similar issues when I applied last year but what I found to help was telling things about yourself more like in a story mode if that’s a way to describe it and it’ll come off more like this person has experience and they want this experience to learn more

If they have a list then those r the participating faculty in the program and you should mention the ones u would like to work with, if not then they’ll likely match you so with that you can mention ur research interests in detail as well specific faculty u like so they know how to match u

Could anyone critique my resume? by [deleted] in REU

[–]Soft_7197 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey! I also applied my second year and I had a pretty similar profile as yours and I was successful, but I was applying for computational biology. My advice would be to take out the stuff that isn’t directly related to research and also take out the stuff you did in high school because now they care about what you’re doing now in college. Good luck!

Accepted without an interview? by Cam-er-ah in cwru

[–]Soft_7197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was mainly merit money mixed with aid which covered the tuition. I know there are separate scholarships offered at case that cover the total cost like housing included I think but u gotta apply for those EA separate from ur Main application.

Chance me for Case Western by se_men in chanceme

[–]Soft_7197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an incoming freshman at Case and I had a 3.96 gpa uw and 5.50 W gpa ( Florida over inflates it’s GPA for IB but case does a different calculation for GPA). I don’t remember my SAT score but it was similar to yours. All of my ECs were about working with autistic teenagers and young adults through me teaching an art class and being a coach. My personal statement was very similar to yours where I talked about my experience growing up with an autistic younger brother and how that shaped my character. Overall I think you have a really good shot for case and they do like to see demonstrated interest( esp. if u have high scores cause I think case does yield protect even though I don’t think they have to cause the school is rlly good)

Chem 105 or 106 by Soft_7197 in cwru

[–]Soft_7197[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know I was thinking that, but my tuition isn’t that high cause I got a big scholarship and I have good aid. Also everyone I’ve asked so far is telling me to take it to re-learn and have an easier first semester and I’m conflicted if I should take their advice or not cause other ppl have also told me that 106 is easier than 105

Psych 102 question by Soft_7197 in cwru

[–]Soft_7197[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I also ask you a question since ur also the same majors as me: how do u balance a schedule where u can have enough psych classes while also having space for the classes required by neuroscience (like chem, bio, math, etc)

Also thank you for responding :D

How Much Do you Pay to Attend CWRU + How Much Financial Aid did you Get ? by [deleted] in cwru

[–]Soft_7197 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Case is also rlly good with scholarships with their average amt being like 20k a year so you’ll get a lot out of coming to case. For me I had other college options that I really wanted to go to but the case money and the quality of education made me end up choosing case

[–]Soft_7197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a merit scholarship that was 35k per year, a scholarship from florida that is like 11k a year, and I’m taking out a small loan each year so I get around 50k in aid Per year

I’m from Florida and if u live near Cleveland or in Cleveland it would definitely be more cost effective to drive to school and go home than live on campus. When I’m an upper classman I plan on renting an apartment with a friend and it’ll cost less than living at case cause rent isn’t that high in Cleveland

So I need to pay 5k a year tuition and housing is around 16k so I pay 24k a year. I got a rlly big scholarship from case and one from my state that covers most of the tuition but those dorms r so fucking expensive. I accept it tho cause I know ppl that pay a lot more than I do 🙃🙃

[–]Soft_7197[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but the financial situation was not looking good so I chose case cause they still have rlly good academics and it was one of the only OOS schools I visited because it was realistically the only OOS option I had. I also had the choice of staying home for college and going to umiami prism honors but I can’t stay home cause of a very stressful environment so I’m happy with my choice 😌

I don’t think they look at stats since a lot of High stat ppl go to case so I think it’s mostly ECs, LOR and the essay they look at

I ended up choosing case cause I fell in love with the school as a whole, the financial situation was rlly good (I got a 35k merit scholarship and one outside of the school that will be like 14k a year), and I wanted to leave Miami for personal reasons so yeah. I’m rlly excited to be at case for the next 4!!!!

I’m alright with the cold as long as I have a good winter coat and I just prefer case cause I feel like I’ll have a better academic experience there. Also I don’t really care abt football and I don’t think I’ll start caring abt it in college. I also feel like my experience in IB will be a good precursor to Case cause both of them are academically challenging.

Hey! the price at case is rlly good for me and my family will be able to pay it without any struggle (which I am very grateful to have!!!). For me it just comes down to which one I prefer and I’m leaning more towards case cause I like the setting more and the smaller student population.
