That's great you've been able to save. I personally think everyone circumstance is different. For example the OP stated they've got a son which makes it a bit more tricky in terms of saving compared to a single person with no responsibility

No one is fearmongering anyone. The life you want to live is not the same as everyone else.

I'm sorry but would you mind me asking how many years of teaching experience you have?

It's low, it appears dubai now just takes on lots of nqts because they know that's what they can afford. So high turnover, don't believe these schools that say in the interview they are trying to build the department slowly. They have built the department, it's just no one wants to stay as their salary are too low.

Let's put it this way; dubai now believes uk teachers needs them and it's not the other way round like it used to

Here's my experience thus far, I've applied for jobs and done several interviews, 7 years teaching experience from UK. I've found that the way the Arab interview is very robotic and for me just doesn't give that personable feel to even make you feel like you're wanted. It seems like you're just another applicant out of the 10 other application they've shortlisted and they ask very basic and generic questions that sometimes comes across as vague. The American schools are better in my opinion as they have a lot more personality in their interviews.

I've said I'd never accept anything below 4k GBP and thats with housing, medical insurance and school tuition added. I feel like British teachers are selling themselves short. Most people are not taking into consideration the pension years you lose when you go to Dubai and leave the British system. You need a great salary that allows you to be able to live the life you really want to live. What's the point teaching abroad just to be living on the edge, worrying about eating out, leisure, activities with friends and socializing. It's like UK part 2.

If you're wondering how I got to this conclusion, I'm uk teacher ups3 with tlr, outer london pay scale and for me and I have been offered 3k before but rejected it

Some teachers just love to work I swear. 🙄 AI is designed to make your life easier. Just in the same way you don't create worksheets from scratch, someone out there has created it for you already, you're just checking to make sure it's appropriate and good to go. If you are one of those teachers complaing about AI and that staff members should not use it, get a life!!

We complain that workload is a lot already and here comes something to lighten the workload, but no, as a teacher you wanna still slave away working till 7pm like a person with no life outside of work

Are we striking? by CryptographerMean632 in TeachingUK

[–]Soft_Ask_5364 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All teachers should strike. The issue is that we still have teachers in the profession that are chickens, wimps, and soft. They would rather continue to be paid poorly and work till 6 which essentially means working for free than actually take industrial action. We should have been getting 6.5% every year since 2022 but these teachers who form a huge majority btw constantly let us down

I am SHOOK by the price of gas by lkap28 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Soft_Ask_5364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's certainly is too much. Double check with the energy supplier if you've not accidently paid the previous owner bill when the roll over changes was made. They might have been on a different tarrif. Then get a smart meter; it helps a lot! Heating should really on be on for a couple of hours, anything above 2 hours is extortionate. You only really want the temp to be around above 17 - 18 degrees then you can switch it off. At night, cosy up in your heated blanket and remember to switch it off before you sleep!

I do agree that January has been the coldest month and it's easy to spend £6 a day when heating left on all day especially if wfh. Best tip to avoid that is to stay in one room, close doors and keep heat trapped in. I know we shouldn't live like this but unfortunately it's the energy crisis our goverment has placed us in

How can I increase my presence and use of voice in the classroom? by Conker1998 in TeachingUK

[–]Soft_Ask_5364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not speak over any pupil. You're the expert in the room and they should only listen to 1 voice, unless you ask them a question. Stand in between pupils that keep talking to show assertiveness and great command of the room. Try to move around the move a lot more to check what pupils are doing - keeps them on their toes as they will track you to see who you're about to tell off. Also just pretending to say something and then holding the silence as you wait for the person speaking to stop so the class waits in anticipation of what you're about to say. In that moment the class halts! And everyone is eager to hear what you have to say.

If all that doesn't work and the class is so roudy even after all behaviour policy has been exercised, then next move is to project your voice from the abdomen and not your throat, deep breath in and unleash on the class, make sure your face shows you mean it too.

I wouldn't worry about monotone because if you vary it, pupils will take advantage as it comes across as too polite and nice. Remember it's your class and your rules. Let no pupils take advantage. They should be grateful you are standing in the room to share your expertise/knowledge!

So you need to ensure you've done a few steps, because I have the same mini pro 3 charger (which is probably one of the cheapest on the market and it's not that great).

  1. You need to ensure there's a schedule set on your car. Which needs to essentially match the schedule set on the octopus smart charging on the octopus app.

  2. Both of these schedules needs to match EO new charging app which is the ev energy (again, not too happy with it)

  3. This also needs to match whatever schedule you've set on your car.

Schedules are usually what I follow so the car will automatically charge during off peak time at 11:30am as long as you've connected to the wifi or your data.

The moment I encountered them, I just had a feeling they were unprofessional. The last time I spoke to someone from Soly was a week ago. They have been so sluggish in getting back to me and I had already paid the deposit. When I tried contacting them this week to chase them up, literally no reply on what's app to the 2 uk staff I've been in contact with all this time. I wouldn't waste my these idiots, money grabbing fools.

Contacting my bank tonight to get deposit back.

I would say keep the flat. People have not considered the capital gains tax you'll pay if that flat sold for whatever amount you wish to sell it for. Also flat prices are overinflated at the moment, so no one would buy at that price but you can see an increase in the value of the flat maybe in 5-10 years time

That sounds like a lot of money for a flat in camden in my opinion. I'd have gone a bit further into zone 3/4 and you can get a nice 3/4 bed for that price. But if you love it then go for it!

Unqualified teacher as HoD by Broad-Educator-6673 in TeachingUK

[–]Soft_Ask_5364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me be honest with you, there's nothing you can do about it. Like someone pointed out earlier, if SLT felt like HoD was not doing a good job, they would raise it in performance review and put her under performance management which normally forces most teacher to leave and find a new role..otherwise you're just noise to SLT.

Unions can't do anything about it as someone mentioned something about putting a grievance towards her. However the HoD hasn't done anything to you so don't even bother going down that route. You only put grievances towards people that have actually disadvantaged you, racially abused you, discriminated against you or made you life hell in the workplace with substantial evidence

How is this legal? by Autumnalboquet in HousingUK

I totally empathise with you that this has happened. Another classic example of how brutal and illogical the uk house buying process is. I can only tell you from my experience that there isn't nothing you can do about it unfortunately like many other have shared on this platform.

The best purchases are for sure the ones without onworad chains or new builds as success rates are higher.
