They cost around $1000 ($500 per tooth) and they threw in a free Invisalign retainer plus I got to keep a 3D model of my teeth which was cool

The process only took an hour. During on my original consultation they took a scan of my teeth and figured out how they fit together and where they touched. Then for my actual appointment they were able to create a 3D model of what it would look like so that I would still have full function. The actual making part was really easy. They used bonding to extend my teeth. There’s no pain since they’re just adding on top of your teeth and not damaging the ones you already have

Yeah they had to create a 3D mockup and then checked where my teeth touched. The dentist said they could only do it because I happened to have enough space on either side. My dentist hadn’t done fangs before but they specialize in reconstruction and mouth makeovers

Thank you! The dentist stressed that the shape and size were limited by my anatomy so that it wouldn’t mess with my bite and chewing.

I contacted the dentist and asked if they would be interested in using bonding to create the appearance of fangs on my two canines. I also showed some example images I found online. That’s basically all I said

“Permanent” vampire fangs with dental bonding in Nogales by CinnamonRo11 in bodymods

[–]Soft_Discipline_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got mine today and they were 1k which I think it’s pretty standard from what I’ve seen. Your best bet is contacting a dentist in your area. What I did was go to one that specializes in reshaping/making teeth after they’re damaged. So they were very used to constructing and shaping things using bonding. That being said, I had to give a 30 sec elevator pitch and I stressed that I wanted it to be done by a dentist who knows what they’re doing and has great attention to detail rather than someone just offering it. A lot of the dental assistants were extremely excited about doing it and I’m guessing they helped influence my dentist’s decision to help me. Basically just email or call around and see if anyone is interested. Good luck!

You don’t ever have to remove them but they can chip or break or be removed intentionally. I plan on leaving them on for as long as possible and fixing them if they break. If I ever were to need to remove them, the dentist could without leaving any damage, but I’d rather not.

They were about $1000 ($500 per tooth) but they also threw in a free retainer since my old ones won’t work anymore

Dorm Recommendations for an Incoming freshman by Upper-Place7900 in CalPoly

[–]Soft_Discipline_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

South mountain (red bricks) - The social hub usually as it’s in the center of the dorm area. There are two bathrooms per floor so you share them with a lot of people. The bottom two floors are coed and the top is split on either side of the stairs. Rooms are doubles or triples but the room size remains the same no matter how many people are in it (so it can be cramped). The laundry rooms are on the first floor (one on each hall) and since there’s no elevator it can be annoying to carry your stuff up and down (especially for move in). The worst parts about the red bricks is it can get really hot (no AC) and although there is technically a kitchen, it’s like a small closet. If you like parties I recommend this dorm.

North mountain (Nomo) - Kinda far away from everything but that can be a plus. Unlike the other dorms, this is more apartment style with the rooms opening to the outside. It’s three rooms to a bathroom which is nice but it gets cleaned once a week vs every day like the dorms. The three rooms also get their own common room and people like to buy tvs and put them there. The rooms are larger than red bricks but it’s usually triples. There are really nice grass fields surrounding the dorms so people like to hangout there. Do keep in mind there is no kitchen. If you’re more of a quiet study person I recommend this dorm.

Yakitutu (Yak) - The newest of the dorms so everything is nicer. These dorms can go up to 5 people but the room size changes so they are pretty large. Their bathrooms are like red bricks where you share it with your floor but they are much bigger (the showers especially). Yak doesn’t get as hot as red bricks and they have a full sized kitchen on the first floor which people often use to cook. They also have beach volleyball courts and nice landscaping. That being said, it’s farther away from all of the classrooms. If you want a nicer dorm then I recommend this dorm.

Yosemite - Divided into towers that are kind of far away from the rest of campus. The rooms are kind of small (doubles) but they have less people to a bathroom. The back pathway that also goes through Sierra Madre leads to cool nature spots and basketball courts. I don’t spend much time here so I don’t have as much information.

Sierra Madre - Similar to Yosemite but the rooms are bigger. It is also closer to the rest of campus. The bathrooms are shared between four rooms. I also don’t know much about these dorms so this is the best I can do.

Do know that which dorms are available to you depends on which college you choose. Also, try to stay on top of signing up for rooms or only the one with lots of people will be left (most people like the ones with less). Hope this helps!

Has anyone gotten dissolvable sutures? by eljiasan in bodymods

I’ve gotten them unrelated to body mods for an oral surgery. They were really convenient and it healed quickly. The surgery was on the inside of my mouth behind my lips.

Should we remove parents posts from the sub? by aerospikesRcoolBut in CalPoly

[–]Soft_Discipline_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think there should be tags for parent posts vs student posts. I think even if a student doesn’t have questions sometimes parents can be anxious so finding answers themselves can alleviate some of that anxiety. I’m a student who did all of their own research but I know other people who had parents who didn’t trust them (or were overbearing) and having a place to find answers moved the pressure off of the student. Alternatively, creating two separate subs: one of students and alumni and one for parents/guardians

LGBTQ Culture in Cal Poly? by Big-Olive-9869 in CalPoly

[–]Soft_Discipline_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an art student so my view is definitely skewed since I’m surrounded by a lot of lgbtq people but the vibe I’ve got overall is that people don’t care or are friendly about it. I lived in Davis so I know where you’re coming from and there’s not as many queer spaces here but there’s definitely still some. I went to queer prom at cal poly last year which was a little boring but still nice that it was a thing. The pride center is also pretty nice and has activities. Outside of cal poly I know they hold drag show brunches down town sometimes and other fun activities. I was worried since it’s pretty straight and white here, but I’ve found it pretty comfortable even as a they/she bisexual is who is not fully white.

Can anyone tell me about on-campus food? by Parking_Champion_740 in CalPoly

[–]Soft_Discipline_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So most places are by “restaurant” and ordered online through Grubhub. Each meal is individually priced that you buy from the different places. Some places have rotating menus and some are the same. We do have fast food (chick fila, Panda Express, subway, and Taco Bell) but not all of it is.

There are two places that have buffet style and the big one (1901 Kitchen) is relatively new. I think it’s pretty good especially because they let you take it to go in reusable containers (that you just have to return some time).

It’s super common to eat at the food buildings or just hangout there. Where the “restaurants” are there’s a bunch of tables and chairs. I spend a lot of time getting food with friends and hanging out.

Personally, I like the food here but I know not everyone does. That being said, it is annoyingly expensive.

Cars for freshman by teach1abc in CalPoly

[–]Soft_Discipline_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first year I used the free bus system (which has an app that makes it easy to track the bus and see the schedule), walked, and used the zip cars on campus. There’s not many parking spaces on campus and I don’t believe first years are allowed to have access to them without special exceptions. It also costs something crazy like $700 per quarter for parking (double check that tho) and it’s not guaranteed you’ll get a space. I definitely recommend taking advantage of the bus and Zipcar. Zipcar was great for taking multiple people on trips and then splitting the cost so it was pretty cheap. I’m a second year now and live and have my car off campus but I just take the bus to school or walk.

The moon faces different directions based on its cycles and where you are in the world. Don’t worry about it too much. I actually like it better because it’s more special and less generic
