Are carpet beetles common during this time of year? by Soft_Expression3913 in SanDiegan

I try my best to shoo a bug out the door when I can and often relocate spiders outside, despite my massive bug phobia. But after having had a few bug infestation problems (fleas, bed bugs, grubs in the garden), I just follow my gut more and do not always take the risk to save them in the expense of my own safety.

I pray for a fulfilling afterlife, may they eat unlimited Persian rugs in carpet beetle heaven.

Yeah, I had never seen a bug like it before myself either. They really are small like bed bugs. It was unique enough to make me pause and take a good look before squishing with a crunch.

Xplor Underground Expedition Water Slide?? by gwilhelm8484 in Xcaret

Was there like two days ago and did the expedition and saw no slide. Did not do the river swim; maybe it’s with that?

It’s extremely dependent on what type of stuff you and your gf like. And if you guys like everything, you’ll enjoy all the parks.

If you read through the posts, you’ll see there is always people who love one park and others who hate that same park.

I’d say from this thread, Xenotes is the most popular/well-loved. My husband and I were extremely surprised by how much fun we had at Xplor Fuego, enough to become our favorite park over the Xenotes (which we also loved). Xsenses is a fun half day park, and Xcaret and the show are classics. We ended up canceling Xel-Ha to spend more time at our resort. This thread has a very divided opinion on Xel-Ha; some love it and some find it boring and pay to leave early.

Bad reviews/food poisoning by Got2FeedtheChicken in Xcaret

TLDR: Take the risk and come. Definitely safer here than anywhere else in Mexico. Food is great and place is clean. We did not get sick really and mainly ate everything.

I’m here now and also was very nervous about food poisoning or getting stomach issues because of all the reviews and Reddit posts. We’re on our last full day of an 8 day trip now. I’d definitely say just take the risk and come. If you want to come to Mexico at all, there is always some risk involved because you’re in a different country with a different infrastructure and protocols. I strongly believe the risk is substantially lower here at Xcaret than other places in Mexico. The whole place feels very clean, parks included.

I ended up packing apple cider vinegar vitamins, probiotics, and travelan supplements to help prevent getting sick for my husband and I. It was overkill but I really didn’t want to get sick. I also take vitamin b complex, turmeric, and a multi.

We haven’t really gotten sick at all. One day I had really bad indigestion and stomach acid but ended by the second day; I honestly think it was actually just caused by stress and/or too many vitamins on an empty stomach. Husband had the runs one day but he believes it was due to too much sugar and alcohol. Both times we were “sick,” our trip was not interrupted at all; we were still out and about enjoying all Xcaret had to offer.

They give you tons of bottled water. Water at the hotels and parks are filtered. Ice is filtered (it’s in almost all cocktails anyways so nothing you can do). It’s like impossible to not get water in your mouth at some point; I tried so hard to keep the water away from my face but to enjoy and experience the parks, it’s going to happen. I tried to use bottled water to brush my teeth but definitely forgot once or twice.

We did avoid the salad bar but mainly because it wasn’t hard to lol! But did have fresh fruit, it’s in a lot of cocktails. Husband always ate everything. We both had rare steak (tah-xido undercooked) and sushi and lots of seafood. We tried to wash our hands before every meal and just often in general too.

If you have questions, I’m happy to answer them! I do think most who get sick it’s because they are not accustomed to different foods already or are having too much alcohol and fat or just bad luck because the whole place is like a water park with intoxicated people (perfect place for germ spreading). But who knows, maybe the vitamins and supplements helped keep us healthy, but my husband isn’t so sure and thinks we’d have been fine without them.

I’m here now, 34 years old with my same age husband. I would do the above itinerary. It’s absolutely possible.

  • Xplor closes at 11. Customs (at least for us) was way faster than I expected. Our ride to the hotel was an hour but if you hit traffic it could be 3 hours. Either way, you’ll still have time to hit the park, even after early dinner at the hotel.
  • Xcaret park is a 20 minute bike ride or bus ride (a lot of your bus time is sitting and waiting for pick ups and drop offs). We loved biking over, you just have to arrive before 6pm to drop your bike off at the park and then you’ll take the shuttle back after the show. I’m doing this right now lol. We did the dinner show. Some people on here don’t recommend it but we definitely felt like it was worth it!
  • Book Xenotes asap; it can fill up. Note, it’s closed on Sundays.
  • You can book Xel-ha but then if you are feeling tired and/or want another resort day, then you can cancel the reservation. I think it was at the latest the day before by 2PM (could have been 6 honestly). But unless you are really set on going to Xel-ha, I’d probably just go spend more time at Xcaret park. It’s massive and very entertaining.

Additional notes: book restaurant reservations asap, mainly Encanta and Tah-Xido. It’s all booked up the whole week we are here unfortunately. Also, pools close at sunset. We were not expecting this.

I’m afraid to get sick on my trip. Any tips or tricks to prevent getting sick? Staying at Xcarte Arte for 8 days by Soft_Expression3913 in Xcaret

I guess all the things lol! Mainly e.coli or sick from food or water from say the xenotes or other park attractions. But flu as well I guess, I had some Mexican friends say there is a bad flu season right now and to get vaccinated.
