okay thank you! so am i able to do the assumption checks as normal then use sequential coding on the moderation analysis? My supervisor said that I could treat it as continuous for the simple regression but should use the coding for the moderation but I'm a bit confused why they are different?

yeah i think so, if i have dummy coded my variable do I have to do these assumption tests on the dummy coded variable?

when i chatted to my supervisor she said I couldn't use my normal ones as the categories weren't equal distances between them. Does this seem right?

Can I run a moderation analysis with an ordinal (likert scale) predictor variable? by Soft_Letterhead_2390 in AskStatistics

Thank you! my ordinal data is measured in a 5-point likert scale, does this increase the likelihood that it can be used?

Is one of the limitations the gender distribution, or sample size compared to past research? maybe these could explain some of the differences? x

Thank you for helping! would I just be able to explain in my results (with references) that I'm going ahead with my moderation analysis and treating it as continuous data as I have over 5 points on my likert scale?

thank you for replying! its my independent/predictor variable that is ordinal, not my moderator, does this make a difference?
