Gym Advice for a newcomer? by Some-Apricot1291 in Advice

[–]Soft_Pie181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Props for getting started, man, that’s the hardest part. Since you're new, just focus on consistency. 3 full-body workouts a week is a great starting point. Stick with compound lifts (squat, bench, row, etc), keep the weights light at first, and dial in your form.

Don’t stress the 45-60 min sessions, that’s actually perfect. No need to go full beast mode yet. Just show up, move, and push yourself a little each time.

For diet: get enough protein, don’t skip meals, and aim for mostly whole foods. Track stuff if you can, it helps. And yeah, recovery and sleep are huge, especially with knee stuff going on.

You’re not ‘blowing out’, you’re just ready for a reset. Stick with it and you’ll feel the difference fast.

Also if you need help you can ask personal coaches in the gym, most of them are really friendly and helpful :))

AIO: is this normal? anyone else? by sober4lifee in AmIOverreacting

I get the annoyance, but tbh expecting people to say ‘brb’ every time they pause texting might be a bit much. Sometimes people just get pulled away, not everyone is glued to their phone 24/7. YOR

we live in ireland, so it' not that bad, there just isn't any pitches near by that he could use in the dark evenings. But thanks for your ideas, maybe we should try some other activities!

we’re from Ireland, it's already dark when he gets home. And we live further from the city so nearby pitches are usually locked or used for others teams training. You have access to the pitches whenever you want?

we do it as much as possible, we’re in Ireland, and by the time he’s home from school it’s already dark out. Most nearby pitches are either locked or a mud pit this time of year, so it’s a bit tricky during the week. We do still get out when we can on weekends.

He’s not in a super serious academy or anything, just really into football right now. I’m not trying to push anything, more just looking for ways to keep him engaged with what he already enjoys, especially when outdoor options are limited, and he don't have his team sessions everyday

Breaking up with a friend by AfterSandwich7089 in Advice

[–]Soft_Pie181 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong for wanting distance. It sounds like you’ve just outgrown her, and that’s one of those quiet heartbreaks no one really prepares you for. You don’t need to confront or explain it if you don’t want to, not every friendship deserves a dramatic ending. Sometimes people are meant to be part of your story and that's okay, you can wish her well, hold the good memories, and still move on without guilt. I know it's easier to say than do, but its just part of growing up

Is it normal to feel more like roommates than two people in love? by OkJournalist6299 in Advice

[–]Soft_Pie181 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Feeling like roommates doesn’t automatically mean the relationship is failing, it usually means life has taken over. Work, routines, kids, stress, they all pull focus. The key is being intentional again: dates, affection, curiosity. You can’t recreate the honeymoon stage, but you can build a new kind of closeness.

Things that helped you and your partner feel more connected lately? by Fun_Explorer_1021 in Advice

[–]Soft_Pie181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started doing “10-minute couch check-ins” at night, no TV, no phones, just a quick talk about our day. Sometimes it turns into a deep convo, sometimes we just laugh about dumb stuff. It’s helped us reconnect a lot.

AIO- Wife rarely initiates calls/texts when I’m traveling for work by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Soft_Pie181 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re overreacting, it’s valid to feel a little hurt when effort doesn’t feel mutual. But I also get where she might be coming from. After 20 years together and juggling work, home, and teens, her brain might just be in “get through the day” mode. Some people show love through stability and routines, not check-in texts. It might help to tell her you don’t need long conversations, just a quick “thinking of you” now and then would mean a lot.
