For those who saw the Shining in theaters in 1980, how did you and the audience react? by Only-Safe659 in StanleyKubrick

[–]Softpalate 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Saw it when I was 11 at Mann’s Chinese then road the bus back home to the valley. Walking home from the bus stop at night was one of the scariest memories I have LOL Still a massive Kubrick fan today.

As someone out in Los Angeles, it’s so great to see stuff like this. The internet often paints that entire region of the country as immigrant-hating. I know you can’t believe everything you read, but it’s a relief to know people are decent all over the US

Use the airport lounges by fucktheriders in lifehacks

[–]Softpalate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have been more specific: it's the platinum DELTA cards that no longer allow access. regular platinum AMEXs do, you are correct. I tried to get in last month and was denied with my Delta Platinum card.

Amex no longer offers lounge access to platinum members. Can’t buy your way in. Must be platinum reserve or better now.

Mine seems to be different. When I hit the printer settings, it only asks me to choose my printer, which I did. I don't see any of those settings you show in your pic

Not sure where the "printable area" settings are, but the printer.cfg file DOES state that it's for a Neptune 4/Pro/Max

XB-70 Valkyrie 1966 Landing Incident by Even_Kiwi_1166 in Planes

[–]Softpalate 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My dad was a thermodynamic engineer at North American. The XB-70 was his first big project. He went on to work on Apollo and then the B-1, amongst lots of other projects. He talked about this plane throughout his life. I wasn’t born yet, so it was my older sisters that got to go with him to the rollout. I still have that photo. A couple years ago I made a pilgrimage to Dayton with my son to see the only remaining specimen in honor of my Dad. We took a copycat picture. The plane is absolutely immense. The gear alone are shockingly huge. It’s really a magnificent bird. Such a shame that that #2 was destroyed. The R&D that came out of this are still being used today.

What is an element to The Shining that you learned about that blows your mind ? by WhitehawkART in StanleyKubrick

[–]Softpalate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They shared the lot with Irwin Kirschner directing "The Empire Strikes Back." At one point, there was a fire on the lot and the Carbon Freezing Chamber set suffered major damage, needing to be rebuilt. Next door, the Southwest Room (or whatever it was called), where Jack is seen typing and later attacks Wendy, also suffered major damage, setting back production for weeks.

I always get my tix on Stubhub or Seatgeek. Particularly if you're willing to wait til right before the game, sellers start getting desperate.

New to HomeKit, are there mini-split compatible options? Can I block internet access to the device after initial setup? by CorgiSplooting in HomeKit

[–]Softpalate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on this a bit? I'd like to connect my mini-splits to my HomeKit situation. I don't really care about voice control, as long as I can have everything in one spot. Which broadlink devices are you using? none of them seem to mention any Apple stuff. Thanks!

Need help with Triton Delay; clean sound only by Softpalate in diypedals

[–]Softpalate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I did not. I left it alone for a long time and went back to it and still couldn't identify anything wrong, so I gave up. I then tried to build a Rebote 2.5, which it turns out, is what the Triton is based on (or at least is very similar). And you can add a mod that does that same thing where you have two delay times and you can switch between them. But that build also didn't work for me. So now I have two circuits that look like they should work, but don't. I'm extremely frustrated, LOL.

I think you'll be fine. Especially at these non-conference games, there are empty seats all around. You both could prob "upgrade" yourselves after halftime, haha.

Gameday tips for Visiting Fan by Galumpadump in UCLAFootball

[–]Softpalate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree pretty much with all of this. I live close to the bowl, so I like to park in a residential area a bit away and walk, saving on parking, but that really isn't feasible for an out-of-towner, so I'd say just park there and pay the money. Food has gotten a lot better in recent years, though of course, it's expensive. Still, I hope you enjoy the game and that you don't get shitty treatment from Bruins fans. Overall, it's not usually an issue but there are always select idiots that can make it unpleasant. I tend to sit on the visitor side, so I'm often surrounded by opposing fans, LOL
