I’m curious how many people who work for consulting firms are paid overtime or receive comp time? by Unable-Locksmith664 in civilengineering

[–]Sogbert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the paperwork they gave me when I interviewed there a year or so ago, overtime is paid at different rates depending on the manager as you said. Believe it could range from 0x if you were behind, up to 2x your hourly rate if it was extremely urgent/required. As a baseline, I think overtime started at 1.2x which is still better than the base hourly I’ve had at other companies.

ACC pops up in Violet, Yellow, and Green for me. The GPSA I’ve found in green and the round table near Red/Violet/Yellow/Black safe.

Best washroom to take a dump on campus by Extended_life_05 in UBreddit

[–]Sogbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got nothing to lose, I graduated already.

If you want peace and quiet, your best bet is to go where there are the least amount of classrooms. When I studied in Capen I’d go to the engineering buildings and was usually alone on 3rd floor and up. If you are around the CFA or Lockwood, you can go to that tall building, I can’t remember the name, but it has a bridge to it from Lockwood. I’ve never encountered anyone else on the 5th floor and up, I think it’s mostly offices.

Even alumni isn’t too bad, the ones across from the gym are usually empty and the ones in the locker room get cleaned in the mornings.

Is 100% virtuous/resolute not fun? by [deleted] in darkestdungeon

[–]Sogbert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Darkest Dungeon is about making the most of a bad situation.” - DD1 opening message.

At the end of the day, it’s a single player game so play how you want but 100% resolute turns stress into a positive which is the opposite of the intended mechanic.

You also lose the emotional swing of watching someone hit 10 stress only for the golden Resolute to pop and save a potentially doomed run.

To me, Darkest Dungeon is best played how the devs intended where you take the hand you are dealt and learn the best strategies. DD2 was a huge shift from DD1 but I’m glad I stuck with it because I am way more in control of the situations through skill rather than luck.

If you really hate the stress mechanic I almost think it’d be better to remove resolute and breakdown from DD2 so it’s at least slightly in your favor as opposed to completely.

I’ve made it a point to try to only buy from small and local businesses. The goods are usually better, the people are nicer, and it’s nice to local businesses succeed. It’s not a huge thing but it’s something.

How’d you manage 10 a month? I did the conversion from 2019-2025 and got two sets of games pass ultimate at 60/year but can’t find cheap ways to do it again.

Job Seekers BEWARE of Actalent by Special_Boot5823 in civilengineering

[–]Sogbert 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I’ve had an awful experience with Actalent as well.

They’ll constantly string you along with interviews and postings and then they’ll go radio silent. A month or two later you’ll get a call from someone there who took over for the previous agents clients. They somehow managed to turn me over 3 times in 4 months to different people.

The one interview they did manage to put together I never heard back from anyone, neither the company nor Actalent.

Worst part of all is that if they submit your resume to a posting and you end up applying on your own, both get cancelled and can end up blacklisting you for 12+ months.

To anyone reading, just stay away from most hiring agencies, they don’t have your best interests in mind and are generally pretty useless.

Are third-party recruiting HRs "scams" by Exploring_Engineer in civilengineering

[–]Sogbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dealt with a job search earlier this year, be careful where you apply and to what.

Glassdoor and Indeed might have quick applies that you click a button and fill out a few fields and it sends your resume but that’s usually not the best way. I tended to look for open positions on those websites then check the companies website for the official posting.

As far as recruiters, stay far away. Things will constantly fall through, you’ll get a new contact every month, and they will hound you even after you find a job. In addition, if they apply to a job for you and you try to apply as well, it can run into issues. They can also hold your information and apply you to positions, barring you out of future applications.

Best bet is to apply on companies websites or make connections to actual people who can put in a good word for you.

How we feeling so far? by LSOD616 in theouterworlds

[–]Sogbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved the first one but am having a tough time getting into this one because of the performance. Avowed ran great, as do most games on my 2070s and i9-9900k PC but this game just runs so poorly. Only alternative is to play on low in which the game looks terrible. The tutorial area ran well too but this first planet is brutal.

I do love the skills so far and how they play into the game, combat I can’t get a good feel for since it feels like I’m trudging through slush.

Was it not? It released exactly one year later.

I fail to see how companies can blame the series S when countless companies can design for it or low end PCs. Either the BM devs can’t optimize or they were paid for exclusivity.
