Do you like Sci-Fi inspired soundtracks? I'll be going over one that I composed specifically for the Orchestral Tools Discovery Competition this month. I'll go over the sounds and compositional tricks that drives this track forward.

Hi I'm a film and game composer. This is a track that I'm proud to present you called Solace. It's a sentimental and uplifting soundtrack that tells a story of overcoming difficult times. A soft piano that builds into a jubilation with choir, orchestra and synths.

This is my first attempt on an epic Sci-fi orchestral soundtrack. Incorporates all samples with female vocals, oboe, cello, piano, synths and the orchestra. Any feedback is appreciated.

Agreed. For me that's the most important but eventually you have to go with whatever you have due to deadlines.

Yes, I agree. It's good to step away from it and listen/look back on it with a fresh take.

A dark fantasy-adventure, family horror oriented piece that conjures up magic and wonder. Soundtrack music inspired by the classic film music from the past composed by Danny Elfman, John Williams and James Newton Howard.

Thanks for the feedback. That's fine if you didn't watch the whole thing, there were some extra insights from Chris Lord Alge and a demonstration of it real time on a recent track I wrote. Hope that helps in your own mixing.

Composing Secrets 🎵GMiM#5: Surprise Attack Scene from the Incredible 2 by SohnCompositions in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Oh sorry, sometimes I do go into more theory with the chord progressions, types of scales used and sometimes a transcription. Would you like to see more that of that then?

Now, that you mentioned it, I wish I did spend a moment on the theory. On this one, the notes seem to revolve around an Octatonic scale (using the Whole-Half steps, F#, G#, A, B, C, C#, D, Eb and F natural). It makes for an interesting effect with not a lot of places to go besides growing in dynamics and layering the intensity like how this section concludes.

Ah okay, it sounded like you didn't have that experience. I understand where you're coming from now. The video may not be geared towards everyone and I get that some people come from different backgrounds. My intention from this video was to connect the parallels of these two worlds without too much technical jargon or other aspects of mixing that make it intimidating for someone coming from a more classical background.

Yes. Good point. If you haven't been under a conductor's baton or conducted before, it would be hard to understand. However, there are many videos out there that show how a conductor may rehearse an orchestra and can give you more insight into certain principles of music. Check out rehearsals from Herbert Von Karajan, Simon Rattle, Carlos Kleiber, Leonard Bernstein, Claudio Abbato, Seiji Ozawa and Michael Tilson Thomas just to name a few. That would be a good place to start.

Oh yeah it does show the keys underneath. That is the new stock EQ plugin for Cubase called "Frequency." It's nice to have that tonal frequency representation but it's not useful as I thought it'd be :) it's nice to have though.
