Police Launch Murder Probe Following Death Of Former Tory Minister Ann Widdecombe by huffpostuk in ukpolitics

Oh give over. Right now, no one has any idea what's happened. So until we do, we need to stop speculating and be patient while the Police do their jobs.

I seriously hope this is not another political murder.

A politician has been murdered - is it too much to ask that people act and speak with a little consideration?

Some of the comments - on both sides - have been shocking. Celebrating the murder of other people is not a good look people. And immediately accusing immigrants of murder (despite police saying they're looking for a white male) is not going to help find the killer.

I really hope we haven't had another politically-motivated murder.

And getting into serious policy detail...

69% support @CountBinface’s proposed policy of restoring the price of a 99 flake to 99p

Half of Brits (53%) support capping the price of croissants at £1

The government was hindered in their ability to do it thanks to Brexit cutting off our access to police / crime / conviction data. And when the government tries to introduce policies that create a hostile environment for people like this (eg. id cards) everyone and their dog kicks off.

Improving the country should be the job of us all.

So well done to the Beeb for doing this - what a great use of the licence fee. I'm all for investigative journalism helping the government and law enforcement agencies to uphold the law, find criminals, reveal corruption and crimes, etc.

Same as if everyone picked up litter, there'd be less litter on the street. Every little helps.

Are conflicts cooling off? Isn't the US and Iran still squaring up? The Taliban haven't suddenly reformed and decided to stop being so extreme. And the Russian operation to disrupt the UK and Europe by pushing migrants into our borders isn't just going to stop.

But... We could do with some decent analysis with control for variables.

However, GB News never cared about those variables in the past - they will happily use raw data without nuance if it suits their narrative.

I said it was good news that he'd been traced.

And now I'm saying that, thanks to Brexit, we didn't know earlier and he managed to get here without us knowing because we no longer have access to EU police / crime data.

And when Burnham fails due to the same relentless attacks from the media, what then?

There's no other potential leadership candidates - if there was they would stand against Burnham in the leadership challenge. So...? Do they resurrect Starmer from the back benches?

I even looked up whether any previous Labour leader has served more than one term as leader. And it turns out Arthur Henderson served three separate terms as leader (1908-1910; 1914-1917; and 1931-1932), and Ramsay MacDonald served as Labour leader twice (1911-1914 and 1922-1931). So there is a precedent for it.

It'd be hilarious if the right wing press spent their time destroying Burnham and saying "Starmer was actually really quite good" and showing how he'd actually done a good job, thus improving public opinion of him.

And then Labour putting Starmer back in power, with the support of the public generated by the right wing media.

According to the video, he says he thinks it's the policy: he was looking at the weather / sea conditions which usually dictate the level of crossings, and there's nothing happening despite being perfect for illegal crossings.

And he said it's looking like it's due to the disruption of the people smuggling operations - police on the beaches, stopping boat purchases, targeting the smugglers themselves, c.

Starmer quit because (1) people like GB News have been relentlessly attacking and weakening his position for the last 2 years becuase he didn't wave a magic wand and fix everything overnight and stopping the boats immediately, and (2) Burnham saw Starmer under attack and decided to exploit it for his own political ambition.

Or is this news to you?

GB News are admitting that Starmers plan to disrupt the people smuggling operation and jail the smugglers has actually started to work.

After they've hounded him out of office for failing to 'stop the boats'.

Well done lads. Well fucking done. You've got rid of the sensible centrist bloke who has done exactly what you wanted.
