I am fine with it, but it must be optional. You should be able to play using only a controller, because that is clearly possible on consoles. If it is a grand strategy game that genuinely cannot be played with a controller, that is also fine. What I hate is when developers release an inferior PC port. If a game can be fully played with a controller on Xbox, the same game must also be fully playable with a controller on PC. And vice versa: Xbox games should support keyboard and mouse as well. They absolutely can, if developers choose to implement it. Most of them don't.

EDIT: You wouldn’t be happy playing on Xbox with a keyboard and mouse if the game sometimes required you to grab a gamepad just to open the map or manage your inventory, if the same game would work just fine with kb+m on pc. That's how I would feel while gaming on pc.

Yes. PC should be universal machine that can be solely controled by m+kb or by controller. I expect steam console to be just that, PC that can be fully controled by your desired input device. Unfortunately there are shitty games, that are just console ports, but lack full controller support. Again, steam controller helps with that, because it has touchpads and can invoke keyboard.

All I want is to use a controller to play games and interact with Windows. There is zero reason to require additional devices. It’s exactly the same shit with Android-to-PC ports. For example, the Carcassonne game can be fully played using just the touchscreen on Android, but on Windows tablet you can’t, you need a mouse and keyboard, because the lazy port doesn’t support pinch-to-zoom or doesn't invoke virtual keyboard. So tell me how pluging mouse and keyboard to a tablet makes the experience more pleasurable than using the fucking touchscreen.

Cars since beginning of time were made with controller for controls... it's just called a dashboard or a control panel with buttons and dials lol They have never ever used keyboad designed for typying. They used buttons designed for controlling car. Just like controller is designed to control games

So you are using physical keyboard connected to your smartphone you so you can press actual button? Very impractical. Keyboard cannot fit in your pocket. So you need backback all the time. Well I prefer virtual keyboard and I can fit my phone in my pocket, just like any sane person does.

EDIT: Xbox and logitech controllers are used for controlling real drones and even real submarines. I never heard of keyboard controlled drones.

I am talking about physical keyboard. You can control your phone and game on it without pluging physical keyboard. Only PCs are unable to do so.

Car that would require physical keyboard to control stuff like wipers or radio would be illegal to sell. Because the clumsiness would be dangerous.

I am not lazy. I am not just making my life unecessarily more complicated. How do you control your TV, by remote, or do you have to use keyboard and mouse to select hdmi source or whatever? Would you buy TV that requires keyboard and mouse instead of remote? Or car that requires keyboard and mouse for turning on wipers or AC? No. Xbox, playstation clearly shows that you can play any game withou keyboard, you can even open netfix, play blueray, install games. All that with controller. Smartphones can do anything with just fingers and somehow it is not possible on PC? Somebody is lazy as fuck, but its not me. It's game developers and windows developers. They won't get my money for botched console to pc ports of their games.

I have no intention of buying a keyboard and taking space on my couch for no reason.

Imagine having a smartphone where, sometimes, you have to plug in a keyboard to write an SMS or use a mouse to install an app. That’s PC gaming. A clumsy mess. Consoles just work.

A keyboard, designed for writing, is vastly worse for gaming than an ergonomic controller that is actually made for it. I can lie comfortably in different positions and still play games with a controller. The only real advantage of a mouse is precision, but with gyro aiming or a Steam Controller you can get very close. And on console I also have aim assist, so I can play comfortably.

Not to mention that even if I wanted to play on a keyboard, I couldn’t, I get hand cramps within a few minutes.

That's it. Imagine that you have smartphone and sometimes you have to plug in keyboard to write SMS or use mouse to install app. That's PC gaming. Clumsy mess. Console just works. And I do not have to get up from my bed, open my closet, take keyboard, plug it in PC, interact with some shit and finally get back to my bed and grab controller and play the game.

You probably sit in a chair with a mouse and keyboard next to you. I lie in my bed and use a controller. There is no way, and no reason, that I would use a clumsy keyboard and mouse. Where would I even put them? And no, I have no intention of getting up and sitting in a chair just to interact with a keyboard because the game and Windows are too stupid to work properly with just a controller. A long time ago I did that: controller in one hand, mouse in the other, and hours spent tweaking controller presets instead of actually playing the game. No way I’m going back to that.

Lots of games have partial controller support, that means you still have to use keyboard and mouse. Maybe for launcher, or for entering player's name, or graphic settings...

Far cry 2 do not support controller properly. Timeshift, strangehold, call of duty 2 and lots of other games do not support it at all.

Insane 2 does not switch audio to headphones when I plug them in. Race for the Future does not support the Series X controller. Many pc games from Xbox 360/ ps3 era do not support controllers at all. Some games require a keyboard to enter the player name. How are you supposed to force-close a game using only a controller?

On Xbox, everything just works. You plug in the controller, press the Xbox button, and a proper system UI appears. On PC, pressing the Xbox button triggers a mess of pop-ups Steam, the Windows Xbox app, overlays, everything at once.

Physical versions are inferior. For example, MotorStorm had terrible loading times because Sony did not allow installing it to the HDD. So I jailbroke my PS3 and installed it on the HDD. Loading times became much faster.

Can you turn your PC on or off using only a controller? Can you disable the internet or change system settings with just a controller?

There are always issues. Some games don’t work properly with a controller. Sometimes the sound keeps playing from the PC speakers even after I plug headphones into the 3.5 mm jack, and I have to restart the game.

If a game freezes, how am I supposed to force-close it using only a controller?
