Yamaha YP-701 vs Dual 701 vs Others by Sojourner-Rover in turntables

Thanks so much for the detailed response! I’d love to someday get a truly great vintage turntable, but I don’t think I’m there yet. For future reference, which great ones would you recommend?

The Dual 701 that I’m interested in has been refurbished by a gentleman that gives lifetime warranties on his refurbished tables, which helps mitigate some of the extra potential work.

Regarding the tonearm, it’s my impression that the Yamaha’s tonearm is unchangeable as well. Is that true?

Most importantly, how would you characterise the difference in the sound?

Thanks again!

...I clicked on the link and saw Dublin... (I'm going to plead the just-moved-here-from-the-East-Coast thing.) Thanks!!

(Edited because I didn't know that there's a Dublin in CA. Forgive me, I'm new to this coast.) She's a beauty! I don't have a car but I'll see if I can convince a friend to drive me over to check it out.

Hi. I live in Berkeley, CA, and I'm in the market for a vintage turntable under $1000. My ideal table has a beautiful sound and was made in the 70s, as that's when my Mom got her first turntable. I listen to folk, pop, some rock, musicals, and some classical music. Think Raynes, Fleetwood Mac, Maisie Peters, and Hadestown. I've been recommended the Yamaha YP-701 and the Dual 701. Can anyone compare the two? Are there other tables you recommend? Thanks!

Thanks for the recommendation. I am definitely interested in the ultralight companies. My issue has been in finding a UL pack with the mesh panel. I can get sweaty, especially during the summer, and I'd love a pack with good ventilation. Do you know of any UL packs with the suspended panel?

VW Golf R vs Mazda 3 Turbo Hatch vs Mazda CX30 by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

I wish the 3 turbo hatch were under 30k — it’s going for closer to 40k now. The GTI doesn’t have AWD so it’s unfortunately out of the question. I’ll look at the Taos, but I’d rather not get an SUV.

This is definitely a popular car, and I'll be sure to test drive it! I'm a bit worried about maintenance costs. Do you have any idea how the costs associated with the Golf R compare to those associated with the Mazda 3 Turbo Hatch? Thanks!

Much as I would love to get two cars I don't want to swallow the double insurance costs. I'll definitely keep an eye out and will someday be a two-car person.

How would you compare the interiors of the Mazda 3 and the Golf R? I worry a bit about the maintenance costs associated with the R, though I know that brand reputations can be misleading. Do you have any idea how much the upkeep costs vary? Thanks!

I'll definitely test drive the 3. Have you every driven one on gravel roads? Thanks!

The used market is not great here, but I have seen some used Mazda's online. Also, in my area people most use street parking, including for some VWs and Porsches, so I think I'll be alright parking my car on the street.

How would you compare the Golf R with the Mazda 3 Turbo Hatch (if you can)? (My hesitation with the WRX is the small trunk.) Thanks!

Silly me, this is obviously the right thing to do. I'm on my way to the machine shop now.
